Reality dating shows have been so focused on heterosexual relationships for so long that there's always some excitement when queer people finally get a chance to find love on television, whether they’re there for the right reasons or not. Back in 2007, MTV’s A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila was one of the first to break the mold, with the twist that the social media personality would be dating both women and men. More recently, we’ve seen Logo’s Finding Prince Charming, MTV’s Are You the One?: Come One, Come All, and Netflix’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love, all featuring queer millennials and seemingly tailormade for a similar demographic.

Seventeen years after launching an aggressive charm offensive to convince the American public that romance can be won and lost, “The Bachelor” franchise has finally been forced to acknowledge that love isn’t always as simple as “boy meets girl” or “Cinderella story meets opportunistic producer.” Instead, this season of “Bachelor in Paradise” has made history with Demi, a contestant who found herself torn between the man she was falling for on the show and the woman she had been dating at home. It’s notable and wonderful that “Bachelor in Paradise” didn’t sensationalize Demi’s sexuality (and that it affords her more time and consideration than it did bisexual+ contestant Jaimi King in 2017), but her dilemma’s also an unavoidable aberration from the show’s usual formula. To watch all the hours of reality television that SallyAnn Salsano has produced — from “The Bachelor” to “Jersey Shore” — you would need to spend more than a month staring at your TV.

As it turns out, Salsano has managed to squeeze in some couch time herself, studying the genre and applying its lessons to her latest show — Fox’s revival of “Paradise Hotel.” You can watch an exclusive clip of the first episode above.

“It’s kind of like if ‘Big Brother,’ ‘The Bachelor,’ and ‘Survivor’ had a baby, this would be its love child,” Salsano told TheWrap, speaking from a remote village in Mexico where she is breathing new life into the dating show that first aired on Fox in 2003.

President Obama has issued an official message to the National Conference on Lgbt Equality, praising them for their history of grassroots political activism and encouraging them to continue to fight the good fight.

The White House also said on Friday that the issue of same-sex military benefits has the president's attention:

The president is absolutely focused on and aware of the need to further implement Dadt [repeal], and to ensure that proper benefits are provided … You know, for more details, I would point you to the Defense Department, but this is an issue the president is aware of and it has his attention.

And speaking of same-sex military spouses, Fort Bragg named lesbian military wife Ashley Broadway as the "spouse of the year." She's now in the running to be the Army's national spouse of the year.

Reality TV star Tila Tequila has been hospitalised in Los Angeles following an alleged suicide attempt.

Emergency responders were called to Tequila's home by her roommate last Wednesday and she was transported to St. Joseph's hospital for psychiatric treatment.

The pal allegedly told cops the model had "tried to kill herself all week".

Tequila was later released and on Monday police officials conducted a follow-up at the beauty's home, where she is said to be resting and confined to a wheelchair, reports TMZ.com.

The last few years have been difficult for the A Shot At Love with Tila Tequila star - in 2010 her diabetic fiancee Casey Johnson was found dead in her West Hollywood mansion after reportedly neglecting to take her insulin medication.

The internet pin-up also fell pregnant but later reportedly suffered a miscarriage due to "medical complications".

She also went public with a prescription pill dependency problem when she signed up for U.S. reality show Celebrity Rehab, and later in 2010, Tequila suffered cuts and bruises to her face after she was allegedly pelted with beer bottles and fire crackers while performing at a music festival in Illinois.

The garbage wasn't just flying during Tila Tequila's set at last weekend's Gathering of the Juggalos. According to photos posted on TMZ, Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man was injured while he and longtime cohort Redman played for a rowdy crowd of Insane Clown Posse fans on Sunday (August 15) night.

The photos show Meth with a bloody gash on the left side of his face. According to an eyewitness, the injury was sustained when someone in the audience tossed what appeared to be a full beer can at the rapper's noggin. TMZ referred to a video, apparently shot just moments after the incident, in which Redman cursed out the crowd and told his pal, "Your face is cut, go take care of that.

Tila Tequila, who starred in the reality dating show A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, was supposed to perform but was chased off the stage by juggalos – a nickname for fans of Insane Clown Posse. Tequila was allegedly assaulted with rocks, bottles, balloons filled with urine and other offensive projectiles.

“I went onstage and immediately, before I even got on stage, dudes were throwing huge stone rocks in my face, beer bottles that slit my eye open, almost burnt my hair… cuz they threw fire crackers on stage,” Tequila told TMZ.com.

The bisexual Playboy model reportedly ran from the stage and hid in a trailer.

The reality starlet says she was pelted with rocks during her performance at the Insane Clown Posse-headlined event.

Reality TV starlet Tila Tequila has claimed she was attacked by concertgoers at the 11th annual Gathering of the Juggalos in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois on Friday.

ABC affiliate Wsil in Illinois reports that Hardin County Sheriff Tom Seiner said the former Internet model filed a complaint about fans' violent behavior during her performance. Tequila, who once starred in the MTV reality show, "A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila," has since turned to rap and shared the bill with artists such as Lil' Kim and Method Man. Seiner said Tequila insisted that fans pelted her with rocks and feces during her set.

In fact, she left a message on my cell phone referring to herself as Sa in regards to this interview, and I almost didn't call her back until I put two and two together and realized Sa was Salsano's nickname.

Anyway, Salsano, er Sa, who has also produced reality shows ranging from 'A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila' to 'Tool Academy,' recently spoke with TV Squad about MTV's controversial pop culture phenomenon, which kicks off another summer of Gtl -- that's gym, tanning, laundry -- and more on Thursday.

Right off the bat, let's say it: there is no "deserve" on reality shows. However, unlike American Idol or Dancing with the Stars or I don't know, A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila, Top Chef doesn't have a voting component or an unreasonable central star, so you expect this field of experts to weigh the whole thing wisely and pick the so-called most deserving winner.

With that out of the way, did Michael Voltaggio deserve to win Top Chef?...

We never thought it'd happen, but here it goes: reality star Tila Tequila announced that she's just gotten engaged.  She took to her official Twitter page and website to divulge the big news, telling everyone that she's tied to Johnson & Johnson heiress Casey Johnson.

"Tonight, my beautiful girlfriend has just asked me to marry her and check out this rock," the 28-year-old star of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila said.  On her site, she posted a video of her expressing her joy at the event.

The annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show aired last night on CBS, and for the first time, it featured an outfit (the polka-dotted monstrosity that poor Candice Swanepoel, pictured left, had to wear) that even Alessandra Ambrosio, pictured right, couldn't have made sexy. Also, America crowned a new Angel. From nearly 10,000 hopefuls, it came down to two: Jamie Lee Darley and Kylie Bisutti. I thought Jamie Lee's seemingly larger cup size might sway the vote, but I believe she lost it when they each had to look into the camera (while they were getting their hair and makeup done) and explain why we should choose them.

A day after Tila Tequila made a citizen's arrest on football player Shawne Merriman, claiming that he had choked and restrained her, the San Diego Chargers linebacker spoke to FoxSports.com about the incident, denying the account given by Tequila (born Tila Nguyen).

Merriman, 25, was arrested on Sunday in the incident, in which Tequila, described in police reports as the player's girlfriend, called police and said Merriman allegedly tried to forcibly restrain her when she attempted to leave his home early that morning.

Reality star Tequila signed a citizen's arrest form according to multiple reports, and the football player was taken into custody on suspicion of battery and false imprisonment, both felonies, and then released on bail while Tequila was taken to a local hospital with no visible injuries.

I'm not a fan of Tila Tequila (actual name: Tila Nguyen) or her MTV programs A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila or its sequel, but that doesn't mean I want her to get hurt. Sadly, it looks like she was allegedly restrained and choked by Shawne Merriman, a linebacker with the San Diego Chargers. Charges have already been pressed.

Since she did call and press charges, I'm going to assume this isn't one of those cases of erotic asphyxiation gone wrong and assume Mr. Merriman was (allegedly) trying to prove his manhood somehow. The A Double Shot At Love reality TV contestant who was killed in a recent car crash was allegedly taking part in a deadly street race, according to an official accident report.

Kandice Hutchinson, who appears in the MTV dating show, died instantly when her car crashed in Euless, Texas in the early hours of 21 October. She had been kicked off the series just days before.

And now an investigation into the incident has alleged that the 22-year-old was racing another vehicle along a freeway at the time of the smash.

Police are said to be considering filing charges against Benjamin Michael Rowell, from Fort Worth, Texas, who was allegedly racing Hutchinson, according to TMZ.com.

Rowell was uninjured in the crash.

The prostitute who was involved with New York governor Eliot Spitzer has denied rumours she will star in a new reality TV dating show.

MTV bosses were reported to be in talks with Ashley Dupre to film her search for true love.

A source told E! News, "They're talking to MTV about Ashley being the next Tila Tequila," referring to the network's hit television show A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila.

But, although Dupre's attorney, Richard Wolfe, reveals his client "has prospects for many exciting new projects and is looking forward to starting a new chapter," a spokesperson for the 23-year-old insists "she has no TV deal".

MTV bosses have also denied the claims, adding: "It's not true. No meetings were held."

Married Spitzer was forced to resign earlier this year after it was discovered he had paid for sex with Dupre.

Now that season two of MTV’s bisexual reality dating series is well underway, the most popular lady in MySpace has gotten enough attention to land herself on the cover of Blender Magazine. In the interview with Blender Magazine, Tila Tequila talked about how difficult it was growing up and her life now as one of the most popular reality TV celebrities.

First up, Tila showed her tattoos, which she says were symbols of the major struggles she had to overcome in her life. The tattoo on her shoulder depicts a winged musical note on top of crossed machine guns, which “symbolize my time growing up in Texas,” she says.

Upstart reality production house 495 has hired senior MTV programming executive Drew Tappon as its new head of development.

The announcement was made by 495 president Sally Ann Salsano, who worked with Tappon when developing her MTV hit A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila.

"Drew and I share the same style, drive and vision to create innovative reality programming for network and cable television," she said. "From late nights working in the editing bays, and from him being available 24/7, I just love him. And between the two of us, we pretty much have business relationships everywhere."

Tappon had been with MTV Networks since 1996 and most recently served as senior vp original programming and series development. He has overseen several of the network's reality successes, such as The Real World, Road Rules, Next and Date My Mom.

Salsano said Tappon's first order of business will be to take in-house pitches around to the network community, where his experience on the other side of the development desk should prove valuable.

After taking A Shot at Love, MTV is now saying, That's Amore.

The channel has greenlighted a spinoff of its hit reality competition series "A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila," which ended its run at 10 p.m. Tuesday with a whopping 6.2 million total viewers tuning in to make it MTV's most-watched series telecast.

The spinoff series, which will include six hourlong episodes and a reunion special, will feature popular Shot at Love contestant Domenico Nesci, who was born and raised in Milan. Nesci will be looking for an "American sweetheart" from among 15 bachelorettes who will vie to win his heart and travel to Italy to meet his mother.

Amore, exec produced by SallyAnn Salsano for 495 Prods., is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. Sundays starting March 2.

"Domenico really started popping for us, and we started talking to SallyAnn about putting together a reel of highlights of him," said Tony DiSanto, executive vp series development and programming. "We realized we had a great show there."

Amore falls in line with MTV's strategy of fast-tracking production and building on hit series with spinoffs. The game plan was put into place this year by DiSanto as part of a new structure and creative direction for the series development and programming group, which was organized into three divisions: series development, series production content programming and strategy.

The strategy also includes an emphasis on turning series finales into event programming, like with the recent live The Hills finale, and creating original specials for the weekend, such as the recent Legally Blonde on Broadway and the upcoming "24 Hours of Jackass". Also key to MTV's strategy is experimenting with new formats (as with competition series), handing out "supersized" series orders (for example, Hills received an 18-episode order for Season 3) and expanding to hourlong series (Shot at Love, Making the Band). The network also has ramped up development, inking first-look deals with Jamie Foxx, Ken Mok and Joel Gallen.
