I do like the old Deliverance style movies but sadly this one ain't gonna win no Oscars.
It is very low budget and so should be rated and reviewed as such and to be honest the photography was not bad and the sound effects did their job, its just a shame none of the cast could act.... Well with the exception of mama she was pure magic and elevated this film above what it would have been without her.
Christine Mancini deserves an oscar for her performance, she was great!
Sadly the movie itself was in need of better effects and really they should know how to mix tomato sauce and glycerol to produce proper blood as it looks more like Red Kola they used.
Good movie if you need a laugh as I am not entirely 100% sure but I think the director may have actually been aiming for black comedy; just did not really do it for me unfortunately...and it was also 30 mins too long!

Writer with a artistic blockdown, for some filmmakers they really stress to come out of the startblock due to an inch of nails under their shoes, a cliched horror story with some nutty gore takes of no coherence, and if you let yourself into this, youll befriend an extinct kinda appalachian dialect out there. If you have the opportunity to fast forward viewing, use it, i fell into cramps of laughter when viewing at 4.0, not very professional reviewing but im not, im just a grumpy old man.
Do not trust these 10 Star reviews, I guarantee you these people are friends or family members of the people who made this film. I'm sorry you made a bad financial investment, but you should've spent some of that money on better actors.
Who is this Matt Schultz putz? Oh my gosh what a bad actor. Bad BAD actor.

I do not understand why the rating of this movie is high. In the movie, the actors exhibited extremely poor and simple acting. The music is extremely bad. The script is silly and simple.

I mean I don't understand the reviews on this movie. Must be quarantine fog or something. This was by far the WORST movie I have ever seen in my entire life and I have seen some bad ones. Usually I can get through the end and then say uggh that was not good, but I couldn't even get through this movie it was that bad. First of all it's as though they picked the actors off the street and said (I'll take you, you, oh hey and you) just read these flash cards out loud annnnnd action! I mean even the back woods people who didn't even speak were bad. If they had one or two good actors I could maybe get through the end...but nope...nope...they were all bad. And then even the Theatrical props were horrible maybe some maple syrup and red food coloring and some gummy worms slapped on a forehead for brains. I don't know I just can't with this movie.... Negative 3 stars and that's being generous. Im actually annoyed at how bad it actually was.

This is the type film that you get or you do not. Sadly audiences these days are not authentic fans of the genre and expect something that was never intended. Films like this pay tribute to an era that was the building blocks for not only an entire genre but a movement, feel and style of filmmaking. To see a movie that is put out in 2021 with its influences on its sleeve and is actually entertaining is a breath of fresh air. Again, you need to know what you are watching or at least understand the genre tone. If you do not, you'll bounce on the opposing side of comprehension. Far too many viewers end up falling on the sides that "WE" as genre fans fought against. Check this out and then go back and watch some 70s horror films from the godfathers of the genre...perhaps then you'll understand this love letter to an important decade in our beloved horror genre. Roots are important. Watch with ease.

The movie was ok for a low budget indy film. Mama and Haley were good. The others were alright.

A well paced indie horror movie where the third act puts a surprisingly modern twist on a classic horror genre. The story is thoughtfully constructed to deliver satisfying payoffs (though the feelings of satisfaction may make you question your humanity). This is helped by a protagonist who is made to be so insufferable that as his nightmare becomes darker you can't help but chuckle at his peril.

I didn't expect a whole lot going in to this movie, but my god was this bad! Not one person could act (not a ONE), the script was awful, the sound/mixing was extra awful, the pace was brutal, the story was completely pointless, the killers acted like monkeys (literally!)...wow, just. So. Bad!!
Arguably the worst movie i have seen in the last twenty years... yes, it's that bad!!
Stay far away from this one!

Three friends are going into the woods for camping. They get into a fight with a local couple who they accuse of being rednecks. That's before they encounter the cannibal true rednecks.
The actors are amateurish. The filmmaking is amateurish. The production value is fine for a low budget indie. This is more akin to a student film. These folks obviously watched plenty of horror movies but they don't have the skills to pull it off. The actors have no charisma and the filmmaking has no flair. The jump scares are done all wrong. This is almost like a blank. It's a movie that exists but has no substance.

Everyone that participated in the making of this should be ashamed.
Have some self respect and pick good projects and if the project isn't good, don't do it.

I stumbled upon the 2021 horror movie "The Boonies" by random chance, and seeing the cover I must admit that I was interested in watching the movie. Yeah, the cover had that slasher-vibe to it, so of course I opted to give "The Boonies" a watch.
And as it turned out, then I could just have skipped on this 2021 horror movie from writers Lance Parkin and Matt Schultz. Yep, this movie was a swing and a miss.
The storyline was generic, so very incredibly generic and mundane. Nay, it was actually downright bland and boring. And even for a movie such as this turned out to be, there was nothing overly impressive or particularly enjoyable to be had here.
The characters in the movie were every bit as bland and pointless as the storyline. So, hey, I guess they fitted right in, huh? But in terms of the character gallery providing any entertainment for the viewers, nah, forget about it.
If you enjoy a good horror movie or a proper slasher flick, then do yourself a favor and skip on director Lance Parkin's 2021 movie "The Boonies". It just simply isn't worth the time, money or effort.
I suppose "The Boonies" is what happens when a bunch of horror fanatics take a digital video camera and heads out into the woods to make their own horror movie.
My rating of "The Boonies" lands on a two out of ten stars.

Let's go the woods camping. And bad things will happen.
The bad: boring from the get go. Why? Because everything about this movie is below average, way below average. The story, the acting, the photography, everything feels like a cheap rip off, that never, NEVER gets exciting.
It's not even remotely funny. What a bore of a movie.

This was very well done for a low budget film; it had some twists and the camera work was excellent! I thought the acting was great and the plot kept me entertained until the end. The audio mix and music complimented the action of the film.

I liked how this movie took it's time to set up the dynamic of the characters without it feeling rushed or plodding. The plot plays with a lot of tropes but the early work it puts into them makes every surprising twist feel earned with nothing coming out of left field.
The sound effects and editing were subtle and terrifying, carrying the dread and suspense in some scenes in ways I often only see in video games like Last of Us.
You can tell this movie comes out of a lot of love for films like Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, and You're Next. So if you like those, you'll definitely enjoy this one.

Going into the theater, COVID-era theaters, I was pumped with excitement that the local AMC wrapped each individual piece of popcorn in plastic. Seeing The Boonies brings back memories of my youth, when my aunt took me to see Star Wars. The original Boonies was a masterpiece, and this movie does not disappoint. An edge-of-your-seat picture that had me riveted. The plot, the rising action and resolution did not disappoint. Throughout the movie, I was glued to my seat in anticipation of what would happen next. Go see the Boonies, I'm headed out now, mask, gloves, bubble wrap at the ready.
