Although advertised as being "based on a true story", this is not exactly the case. Cyril Massarotto, the author of the novel on which the film is based, took inspiration from the plight of his uncle, who was afflicted with Alzheimer's, and the way his mother took care of him, but crafted an original fictional narrative about a mother and her son.
