Maybe my bias made me give it an 8, but I don&#39;t think so. VERY WELL DONE!!! Bravo to the makers of this. Alice Cooper: you rock, you will always rock; I don&#39;t even listen to your music but I&#39;m grateful you were in this documentary,
David Cassidy&#39;s special persona shined through this documentary despite his illness. Very very well done.

David Cassidy: The Last Session

I wish I hadn&#39;t watched this. David was elderly, ill, in pain and could not sing, but it was great to see old footage and hear his old songs again - and to hear about the person behind the image. What a life! This documentary shows him in The Partridge Family, and despite the fame and money he wasn&#39;t happy. Like many manufactured pop stars, David ended up hating the songs, his life, his image and being a &#39;teen idol&#39;. It seems he really tried hard to change things but contractually his hands were tied. Who knows what type of singer/actor he&#39;d have been if he&#39;d been listened to and helped to move on. Also the issues with his father. This is so very sad and some people should never have been parents as they can affect their children negatively. In the documentary he seems to adore his father, but maybe drink had blurred the facts about their relationship. His book tells a very different story The recording sessions are very hard to watch. Having read his book, which finishes with his happy life, his horses, his family etc. this was a shock. There are many contradictory comments too; about not feeling he was good enough, never giving himself a &#39;pat on the back&#39; etc., yet in his book he tells of how great he was, how loved he was, how big his concerts were, how much money he earned, how he was bigger than Elvis and The Beatles. The footage of his concerts does show that he had a great voice, it also shows he was an intelligent and articulate young man. In the sessions, he constantly complains of pain, about his medication, and on hearing a song played back to him says he can&#39;t go on. What he hears is his dreadful, shaky, weak voice, but he says he can&#39;t go on he&#39;s in too much pain - hard for him and us. In other sessions he is over the top with his ailments; he is choking, making strange facial expression, complaining his &quot;throat is dry, his body aches, he can&#39;t expand his chest to sing&quot; - I&#39;m sorry to say he was behaviour like a spoilt, petulant kid. Whilst attempting to sing &#39;wish you were here&#39; he struggles, he cannot sing; his voice is awful. Suddenly he says &#39;I can&#39;t do anymore, I&#39;m in pain&#39;, but hey here&#39;s a copy of my dad singing it! As the (terrible) record plays, he then starts crying and calls out &#39;Dad I miss you so much&#39;. Then just as suddenly he says, lets go out for dinner. Sadly, David had turned into a sorrowful, self pitying figure who still had people kowtowing around him. His skin colour, looks, behaviour, voice are obviously due to alcoholism but he&#39;d claimed to have dementia. For someone to have had everything and to end up like this is a tragedy. This documentary should be shown to people with drinking problems - this is what they could face in the future. I hadn&#39;t realised David was only 67 when he made this documentary, he looks and appears twenty years older.
