I just watched 'The Final Code'.
Based on the true story of Josef Fritzl, it is in fact a very disturbing film. But stories like this are also very important to tell so that the naive and sheltered people of the world don't continue to live on in ignorance, not knowing that such horrors could be happening next door or across town. Or as in this case, in the very basement below them.
So my hat is off to the Carlo Fusco for his amazing directing and to Ieva Lykos for having the courage to not only write, but also to produce and act in this highly provocative and emotionally stirring film.
Regarding the performances... Ieva's portrayal of Sharon was unequivocally believable. My heart ached for her in every single scene, regardless of the movement or dialogue. It even ached in her silence.
Truly, ALL of the acting was amazing, but most especially that of Ieva Lykos and little Mara Stefan, both of whom captured my mind and heart.
The performance of Chip Chuipka was also quite believable, stirring a lot of anger and hatred in me. As twisted as it may sound, I loved his performance because I hated everything he said and did. And of course it would be remiss of me if I failed to mention Syama Rayner, who also delivered a very believable and heart wrenching performance.
The other actors were also quite wonderful, but the main characters all delivered the most amazing performances I could have hoped for.
On a technical note, the cinematography was excellent, with superb camera setups and angles; the sound was believable; and the editing most certainly was top notch.
