Throughout the documentary, passages of Atwood's prose and poetry are narrated by Canadian actor Tatiana Maslany.
The premiere date in Canada was chosen to line up with Atwood's 80th birthday, November 18.
Atwood's longtime partner, writer Graeme Gibson, is featured frequently in the film. He passed away shortly before its release, in September 2019, and the film is dedicated to him.
Atwood's life and work are covered from childhood to the release of The Testaments, her 2019 follow-up to The Handmaid's Tale.
Features cameos from the likes of Sarah Polley (who adapted Atwood's novel Alias Grace into a 2017 miniseries) and Elisabeth Moss (star of the television adaptation of The Handmaid's Tale).
