Featured review
This 3rd DVD compilation from Bree & Craven's "Future Darkly" sci-fi series made for their Pure Taboo label suffers from the team's fatal flaw: half-baked scripts and stories which had potential but lacked development.
"The Love Hotel" concerns a sex robot, well-played by Emily Willis, servicing creepy clients including Steve Holmes and Charles Dera, before a fellow robot appears and has lesbian sex (robot-style that is) with her before a sudden and violent conclusion.
The special effects are well-done but the underlying issues of artificial intelligence and mistreatment of robots (parallel to mistreating female sex workers) are poorly handled, giving the scene an unfinished feel. Director Craven Moorehead makes a cameo appearance and looks merely like a futuristic stereotype of a sleazy pornographer, rather than a character actor.
Supporting scene is titled "Eyes in the Sky" and has a similar approach to a previous Craven/Mills entry about Alien Abduction.
Young lovers Adriana Chechik and Seth Gamble are the victims, who find themselves cocooned and trapped with two earlier abductees Ryan McLane and Kristen Scott. The corny premise, told to them by Ryan & Kristen is that the aliens get off watching their captives have sex, so lots of sex including partner swapping occurs while we hear the aliens making noises on the soundtrack.
Story makes little sense, and is thoroughly ruined by an awful groaner of a trick ending.
