If you ask if this is one of the best horror shorts, I would say no.
But, the fact is, a yes or a no can't define a film. Nor can it deny the passion and effort of the film-makers.
Attack of the Killer Scarecrow is a very simple storyline, linear, without any twist in the tale. The background score and the cold colour spectrum, used in the film, however, in my opinion, have been two important aspects in creating the eerie ambience. The tone was reminiscent of some of the earlier Supernatural episodes.
The suspense might have been a bit tighter. The director could have created some sudden revelations for the audience. That's one area, that could be worked on. Then again, the cinematography has been quite mature.
In the end, you have to remember that this film has been pulled off, in maybe over a year or so, by some freshers in the industry, whose sheer dedication and perseverance were the only investments in this big project.
One might wonder, how a 11-minute short could be a 'big' project. But the thing is, when a handful of newbies venture and try to accomplish such a deed, they lack in experience, funds and accessibility to resource. Despite all these barriers, these guys have done pretty well in their debut.
In the end, I would applaud these teenagers for doing something out of their love for the art when a lot of others of their age might be busy over playstations. Wishing them all the good luck for their future endeavours. These guys are going to go a long way.
