Right, well truth be told, then I wasn't harboring any expectations at all to this 2022 drama titled "Neurotic Beauty" from writer and director Raenell Jones as I sat down to watch it. And yeah, I hadn't even heard about this movie prior to watching it either. But believing in giving all movies a fair chance, I opted to sit down and watch what this movie had to offer.
And if wooden acting performances, a slow narrative, an amateurish feel to the entire movie, and sluggish dialogue is your thing, then you're in for a treat if you sit down to watch "Neurotic Beauty". However, if you sit down to watch it with the intention of being entertained by a proper movie, then your money, time and effort might be better spent elsewhere.
I was struggling to sit through this movie, as with every passing minute my interest in the storyline and the characters just drifted further and further away. And the rigid acting performances sure wasn't help to reel it back in.
"Neurotic Beauty" wasn't exactly bolstering a star-studded cast ensemble. In fact, I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list here. Usually that is something I enjoy in movies, but when the performances on the screen are as wooden and rigid as they were in "Neurotic Beauty", then there just was no appeal in an unfamiliar cast ensemble.
I am sure that the concept idea for the plot for "Neurotic Beauty" was interesting enough on paper, but the transition from script to screen just wasn't enthralling.
My rating of "Neurotic Beauty" lands on a very generous two out of ten stars.
