Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere are CIA agents tackling important, long-term missions in new images from The Agency, their upcoming TV series for Paramount+ with Showtime. The forthcoming Paramount+ streaming show is based on the French series Le Bureau des Lgendes, and focuses on deep-cover agents who are sent to live under false identities for extended periods of time. The show sees Fassbender portray Martian, who leaves his job undercover for the CIA's London Station, only for a romantic partner from his past to make him feel pulled between his job and the double life he was leading.
Now, Entertainment Weekly has released a series of images from The Agency, revealing Fassbender and Gere as important characters in the Paramount+ with Showtime series. Gere, who plays Bosko, is the London Station Chief, and can be seen speaking to Fassbender. As for the lead actor, he's seen running through the woods,...

In Susannah Grant’s “Lonely Planet,” Laura Dern plays an important writer. You can tell because everyone says she’s an important writer. Also she’s usually writing something, not that we ever hear a word of it. Writers, you see, get all-expense paid trips to gorgeous retreats in Morocco, surrounded by other sexy writers, because all writers are sexy. They’re certainly not barely making ends meet and spending half their time chasing down late invoices.
“Lonely Planet” is a fantasy film. Not the kind with dragons and elves in it, but the implausible kind where everything is sexy and perfect. Even the problems in “Lonely Planet” are fabulous. Your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere in Morocco, so you get free lunch with a nearby family with a fellow sexy traveler. Your sexy relationship is on the rocks but you’ve instantly made a deep, meaningful,...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Wolfs.
After watching Wolfs, I'm thrilled Brad Pitt went with it over starring as the protagonist in David Fincher's The Killer. Produced by Apple Original Films, the new action comedy was released in select theaters on September 20, 2024, before its global premiere in 100+ countries on September 27 exclusively on Apple TV+. Pitt and Clooney's protagonists are essentially cut from the same cloth but are forced to reluctantly work together after a mysterious job goes off the rails. Pitt stars alongside George Clooney in their first onscreen collaboration since 2008's Burn After Reading directed by the Coen Brothers.
Wolfs follows Clooney and Pitt's characters as two lone wolf fixers who are assigned to the same job. The film also stars Amy Ryan, Poorna Jagannathan, Austin Abrams, and Richard Kind. Michael Fassbender has done a lot for his roles. Be it wearing a metal helmet and pretending that he could move things with his hand (in the X-Men films), or playing a British commando and former film critic who goes undercover as a German officer (Inglourious Basterds) – he has proven his excellence in it all, irrespective of however challenging the role may have been.

But perhaps his most challenging role must have been that of Thomas Rongen in the 2023 comedy-sport Next Goal Wins. This is because he had to ditch his vacation plans of racing sports cars to work on the movie. But the real credit for it, perhaps, goes to filmmaker Taika Waititi, considering how he was the one to tell Fassbender about the role and convince him for it in the first place!

Few films have been as massively influential on the action genre as John Woo‘s “The Killer”, where the director’s choreographed shootouts and Chow Yun Fat‘s virile charisma dazzled as never before. 35 years later, the Hong Kong director is back with a Paris-set, English- and French-language remake of that film, also called “The Killer” (not to be confused with David Fincher’s 2023 film of the same name). This was a strange idea to begin with, one that had been kicking around Hollywood for decades (the film is co-produced by Universal). And as it turns out, a rather misplaced idea too.
Where to watch
The main story is almost identical, with one major difference: now the titular character, Zee, is a woman (played by Nathalie Emmanuel). She still is a supremely effective contract killer who can shoot her way through any situation – until she decides to spare the life...

Ever since its release back in 1998. Wesley Snipes’ Blade has become a cult classic. The actor’s portrayal of the superhero in the late 90s left quite an impact on the genre. With the film following the story of a half-human, half-vampire warrior on a mission to protect humanity from the bloodthirsty underworld, fans all over the world were hooked to their screens. Although Stephen Norrington, Guillermo del Toro, and David S. Goyer brought the story to life, Fight Club director David Fincher was once wanted to helm the project.

Despite the filmmaker’s initial excitement and ideas for the movie, Fincher’s ambitious vision ultimately never made it to the screen. However, years ago, the producer of the show ended up revealing how the 62-year-old’s ideas had thrown everyone for a spin.

Despite leaving critics and audiences underwhelmed at the time, Tom Cruise's The Mummy reboot is climbing the streaming charts. Cruise starred in the 2017 movie as a U.S. Army Sergeant who inadvertently awakens a cursed Egyptian princess and becomes the target of her search for a host for the deity Set in the hopes of claiming rulership of the world. Intended to launch an interconnected franchise known as the Dark Universe, the movie was a critical and commercial failure, losing Universal Pictures a reported $60-95 million at the box office and leading to the shelving of the franchise.
Now, seven years later, though, Cruise's The Mummy is starting to find success on Peacock. At the time of writing, the 2017 horror reboot holds the No. 3 spot on the platform's Top 10 Movies Today list. The two titles currently outranking Cruise's movie are the extended cut of Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's The Fall Guy,...

Stephen King often takes to Twitter to highlight or recommend movies and shows that are both topical and under-the-radar. Earlier this month, he described the Netflix chart-topping "Rebel Ridge" as "a thinking man's Rambo" and endorsed the brilliant, yet overlooked supernatural drama series "Evil," which is also streaming on Netflix at the moment. King, of course, is intimately acquainted with the horror-thriller genre, and one of his latest genre recommendations is a recent release helmed by Jt Mollner, revolving around a casual hookup gone horribly wrong. Yes, King took to Twitter to praise "Strange Darling" — starring Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner — while attaching the film's official trailer to underline how intriguing the premise is:
"I got an advance screener of Strange Darling, and it's really terrific. I'll try to attach the trailer here, because it's also a clever masterpiece. Can't say more; watch the film and you'll understand what the trailer is up to.

Exclusive: Legendary director John Woo has signed with Independent Artist Group. Famous for his pioneering work in the Hong Kong action genre stamped with balletic scenes of stylized violence that inspired a generation of Hollywood films, Woo just directed the remake of his signature film The Killer. The new one stars Nathalie Emmanuel and Sam Worthington and was released by Universal Internationally and ran on Peacock domestically.
Last year Woo directed the Lionsgate action thriller Silent Night, which starred Joel Kinneman as a man bent on revenge, but unable to speak.
Woo has always split time directing in both North America and China over an illustrious career that began with the Hong Kong action classics A Better Tomorrow, Bullet In The Head, Hard Boiled, and The Killer. Netflix’s 2024 batch of family crime dramas have been quite the test of patience. Things started off pretty rocky with Fool Me Once, which featured rich people doing murderous things (I watched it in January and I don’t remember the details). That was followed by The Brothers Sun, which was packed with some of the most enjoyable stunts and a lot of heartwrenching mother-son drama. The streaming platform lulled me into a sense of comfort with the equally amazing House of Ninjas, which was about, you guessed it, a family full of Shinobi facing a deadly threat. Then, things started to go off the rails. Eric was all over the place. Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper established some sort of stability. But the triple-punch delivered by The Accident, The Perfect Couple, and Blood Legacy demolished the genre’s reputation. And, while I thought they were done with this nonsense, now...

In Hollywood history, only a few films have left a lasting impact like the 1999 Fight Club. With characters like Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden, Helena Bonham Carter’s Marla Singer, and even Edward Norton’s The Narrator, the film has gone on to become a cult classic. However, the David Fincher movie was not always seen as an iconic one. In fact, when it first premiered 25 years ago, critics who got to see it at the Venice Film Festival were not too impressed.

The Killer's Game has a great soundtrack filled with music from different genres and notable artists like Dolly Parton and James Brown. Dave Bautista's 2024 action movie takes cues from many films that came before it to mix in hard-hitting fight sequences and action scenes with a few memorable needle drops. The movie does not overload the narrative or action sequences with songs that are overbearing or needlessly distracting, with director J.J. Perry instead using the music to enhance what those watching The Killer's Game experience.
While most action movies include hip-hop, rap, or rock songs to pair with its action sequences, The Killer's Game takes a slightly different approach to its music selections. The movie includes a song from Dolly Parton as part of its romantic journey after she is namedropped, while there is even plenty of international music included thanks to the widespread nature of the assassins who...

Often compared with the John Wick movies, Bill Skarsgrd's Boy Kills World, which has an audience score of 72% on Rotten Tomatoes, is now streaming. “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 suffered a major viewership drop in its second week on Luminate’s weekly streaming originals chart.
Last week, the Amazon Prime Video series managed to nab second place with 764.7 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability of its first three episodes combined with the first day of availability of its fourth episode. But during the Sept. 6-12 viewing window — which included the first full week of Episode 4 and the first day of Episode 5 — it only hit 372.7 million minutes watched, landing in fourth place. While there was less new content to watch compared to the week before, when the first three episodes has just debuted, it still doesn’t bode well for a large IP title to drop by more than 50% after one week, when word-of-mouth appeal should still be high. It should be noted that Luminate only measures U.

Dave Bautista's new action movie has franchise potential, and here's whether The Killer's Game has a post-credits scene teasing more. The 2024 action film spent decades in development before Bautista managed to help get it made. By teaming up with Lionsgate, the movie adaptation of Jay Bonansinga's 1997 novel is one that, on the surface, looks like it could become a new franchise. Bautista is no stranger to action franchises, and The Killer's Game's cast is loaded with talent that could factor into more adventures set in the assassin world.
The story of The Killer's Game revolves around Bautista's Joe Flood as the assassin fights to survive after he places a hit on himself after a terminal misdiagnosis. As he fights off different assassins and looks to protect himself and Sofia Boutella's Maize, an entire assassin network is established that could be developed further with sequels or spinoffs.

A new David FIncher rumour: he’s reportedly set to remake Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, with Charlize Theron lined up for a starring role.
Another week, another David Fincher rumour. Given how many stories we’ve heard of late regarding Fincher’s next project for Netflix, we’re beginning to wonder if the Fight Club filmmaker is orchestrating a disinformation campaign worthy of Project Mayhem, the anarchist movement from his 1999 masterpiece.
Recent weeks have seen stories emerge that suggested Fincher would be remaking Squid Game, the hit South Korean Netflix show as an English language film. Just a few days ago, a story appeared that claimed he would be making a western next titled Bitteroot, modelled after the style of Clint Eastwood’s 1992 classic, Unforgiven. Oh, and it doesn’t seem like that long ago since reports suggested that his next film would be a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train.

Dave Bautista stars in a new action movie, The Killer's Game, and he does what Jason Statham, Michael Keaton, and Wesley Snipes could not in the process. The 2024 movie puts Bautista back in the familiar territory of being an action star. After his breakout role in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, the WWE wrestler-turned-actor gained attention in Hollywood as a potential leading man in the genre thanks to his muscular build and natural physical abilities. This ultimately led him to land the lead role in The Killer's Game and get a chance to headline a long-gestating project.
The Killer's Game follows Dave Bautista's character, Joe Flood, an assassin whose life changes when he is diagnosed with a terminal illness. Not wanting to die of the disease, Flood orders a hit on himself so that his death is quick and done by an expert. However, he quickly learns that his illness...

When you think of John Woo, you think of action. With movies such as The Killer, Hard Boiled, Face/Off, Mission: Impossible 2, and more, the director has delivered some of the greatest action in the history of cinema, but his next project will be a big departure. While speaking with Empire, John Woo confirmed that his next movie will be a “half-musical” made in collaboration with Sparks, the pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron and Russell Mael.
“My next project is actually a half-musical,” Woo said. “I’m going to be working with the Sparks Brothers, who wrote the script and songs — we are just starting work on some changes to the script.” The director then joked that this “will be my first movie where I don’t need to hire a stuntman.” Woo has wanted to tackle a musical for some time, even coming close to helming...

It’s been long enough since Sparks revealed their Annette follow-up X Crucior that you’re forgiven for thinking it might’ve been shelved. I talked to them about it, briefly, in 2021, and a little over a year passed before Focus Features announced they’d acquired the project. Making today a major occurrence: after a tease on the band’s Twitter last week, it’s been confirmed (via Empire) that John Woo will direct the “half-musical,” which the director calls his first project “where I don’t need to hire a stuntman.”
Details remain sadly scant, even as Woo acknowledges some rewrites (from what or why) are underway. Terribly exciting all the same, not only as a collision of two super-distinct sensibilities but a kind-of-fulfillment of the brothers’ longtime love for (and occasional dabbles with) Hong Kong cinema. And it continues a surprisingly verdant time for Woo, who followed last...

John Woo’s Next Film Is ‘A Half-Musical’ With Sparks: ‘My First Movie Where I Don’t Need A Stuntman’
John Woo movies always have a spark – the legendary Hong Kong director is responsible for some of the greatest (and most bonkers) action ever committed to the screen, in Hard Boiled and Face/Off and The Killer, to name but a few. But we’ve never had a John Woo movie with Sparks – the legendary cult pop duo also known as Ron and Russell Mael, behind such earworms as ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us’. Until now, that is. Because, as the filmmaker tells Empire in a major upcoming interview, he’s currently working with the art-pop icons on a very different kind of Woo movie.
“My next project is actually a half-musical,” Woo confirms to Empire. “I’m going to be working with the Sparks Brothers, who wrote the script and songs — we are just starting work on some changes to the script.” While the...

Michael Keaton is back on the big screen in Tim Burton’s “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” which is aiming to clear the $100 million mark in its opening weekend at the domestic box office. The long-awaited sequel might be the last time the Oscar-nominated actor is officially credited as Michael Keaton, which has been his stage name since the start of his career in 1978.
Speaking to People magazine for a new cover story, Keaton said that he plans to change his official acting credit to something that’s closer to his birth name, Michael Douglas. Keaton could not use his real name when he was getting his Screen Actors Guild card in the late 1970s because there already was a Michael Douglas in Hollywood. And the name “Mike Douglas” was taken by a talk show host.

Reports swirl regarding David Fincher’s next film for Netflix, with a third project – a Western titled Bitterroot – potentially his next film.
Just last week we covered the widely reported story that David Fincher’s next project was set to be an English language remake of the hit South Korean TV show, Squid Game. The story was widely reported of course because this is David Fincher, one of the most admired directors of our era and as such, there’s plenty of interest in whatever project he chooses to attach himself to next.
The Squid Game remake reports came on the heels of an earlier story that emerged in April, claiming that Fincher’s next film could be a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train. The Bikeriders becomes a hit on streaming after a disappointing run at the box office. Directed by Jeff Nichols and based on Danny Lyon's photo book of the same name, The Bikeriders stars Austin Butler as Benny, a young biker who finds himself torn between his loyalty to his new club, the Vandals, and Kathy (Jodie Comer), his girlfriend. The film, which stars Tom Hardy as Johnny, the violent leader of the Vandals, was released earlier this year and grossed only $35.8 million worldwide.
New data from Reelgood reveals that The Bikeriders ranks as the tenth most popular movie on streaming for the week of August 22 28. The film, which is available to stream on Peacock, falls behind titles like Incoming (2024), Alien (1979), and The Killer (2024), among others. Check out the full top 10 chart below:

“Twisters” (Universal) wasn’t the biggest film of the summer. But it is becoming the comeback kid among the group, both theatrically and at home.
The tornado-focused special effects disaster film just had a very rare weekend in theaters. In its seventh weekend, losing 200 screens, its gross increased 17 percent. That comes in its third week at home on PVOD. And right at the same time, “Twisters” returned to #1 at iTunes, edging out the second weekend of “Inside Out 2” (Disney), 2024’s biggest hit.
The Pixar film retains its top spot at Fandango, with the advantage that its $24.99 rental cost gives it with that site listing by revenue earned, not transactions like iTunes does. In any event, the split decision this week continues a now multi-month trend of no film placing #1 at both for two consecutive weeks.

Ever since the era of Ocean’s Eleven, the pairing of George Clooney and Brad Pitt has been a royally charged one. The Steven Soderbergh film not only pulled Clooney out of the pit that Batman & Robin threw him in but also elevated him to a movie star status. With Wolfs, the boys are officially back at it again and the fans couldn’t be happier. That is, until the report about their obnoxious salaries for the Apple-sponsored film.
Wolfs [Credit: Apple TV+, Columbia Pictures]
Not only has the news caused a fracture among the well-meaning public but also threw the fans for a loop. After all, a $35 million paycheck is an insulting number, no matter which way one looks at it. However, it did not take long for Clooney to voice his opinion on the issue. It now seems that there is more to the story than meets the eye.

Warning: Spoilers for The Killer (2024) below!
I wasn't expecting John Woo's long-delayed remake of The Killer to match the original, but I'm so glad it's still an action delight. I saw the original film late at night on the UK's Channel 4 back before I had any awareness of John Woo movies or Hong Kong cinema. The movie's immense style, the exhilarating action and the incredible turn by leading man Chow Yun-fat combine to make The Killer Woo's best movie, period. I soon sought out the rest of his work, including Hard Boiled and the first two Better Tomorrow movies.
I'll admit that John Woo's American movie output was a mixed bag. There were the highs of Face/Off and Hard Target, but Paycheck felt like the title summed up the cast and crew's participation in it. Woo is one of my all-time top directors, and while his work can be overly melodramatic,...

Director John Woo is a name synonymous with action-packed cinema and stylized violence. Once a Hollywood favorite, known for his unique brand of gunfights, slow-motion scenes, and explosive action sequences, Woo helmed some bonafide blockbusters such as Mission: Impossible 2 and Face/Off.

However, despite his early success, Woo underwent a bit of a Hollywood exit after a Ben Affleck flick that made around $117 million at the box office. This, against a budget of $60 million, was seen as a failure, which led to a lack of offers for the director himself.
Woo himself believes that the failure of a couple of his later projects, including Paycheck, led to his status as an action movie pioneer being overlooked.

Director John Woo is known for including unique shots of birds in slow motion scenes in many of his films. Woo’s latest action thriller “The Killer”, which is now available on the Peacock streaming service, continues this directorial signature. Actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays assassin Zee in the remake of Woo’s 1989 classic film, recently shared her experience working with live birds on set.
While computer generated imagery, or CGI, is commonly used today, Woo chose to use live birds for the shots. Emmanuel said the real birds performed well under the direction of experienced handlers. “The handlers really knew each bird’s personality and behavior,” said Emmanuel. On one occasion, a handler noticed a bird was in a bad mood and adjusted accordingly.
Working with live animals requires skill since their actions can’t be fully predicted. However, Emmanuel praised the handlers for their expertise in managing the birds and ensuring safe filming.
