Michael Fassbender and Richard Gere are CIA agents tackling important, long-term missions in new images from The Agency, their upcoming TV series for Paramount+ with Showtime. The forthcoming Paramount+ streaming show is based on the French series Le Bureau des Lgendes, and focuses on deep-cover agents who are sent to live under false identities for extended periods of time. The show sees Fassbender portray Martian, who leaves his job undercover for the CIA's London Station, only for a romantic partner from his past to make him feel pulled between his job and the double life he was leading.

Apple has already greenlit a sequel for Wolfs with Clooney and Pitt set to return.

Michael Fassbender has done a lot for his roles. Be it wearing a metal helmet and pretending that he could move things with his hand (in the X-Men films), or playing a British commando and former film critic who goes undercover as a German officer (Inglourious Basterds) – he has proven his excellence in it all, irrespective of however challenging the role may have been.

But perhaps his most challenging role must have been that of Thomas Rongen in the 2023 comedy-sport Next Goal Wins. This is because he had to ditch his vacation plans of racing sports cars to work on the movie. But the real credit for it, perhaps, goes to filmmaker Taika Waititi, considering how he was the one to tell Fassbender about the role and convince him for it in the first place!

Few films have been as massively influential on the action genre as John Woo‘s “The Killer”, where the director’s choreographed shootouts and Chow Yun Fat‘s virile charisma dazzled as never before. 35 years later, the Hong Kong director is back with a Paris-set, English- and French-language remake of that film, also called “The Killer” (not to be confused with David Fincher’s 2023 film of the same name). This was a strange idea to begin with, one that had been kicking around Hollywood for decades (the film is co-produced by Universal). And as it turns out, a rather misplaced idea too.

With the film following the story of a half-human, half-vampire warrior on a mission to protect humanity from the bloodthirsty underworld, fans all over the world were hooked to their screens. Stephen King often takes to Twitter to highlight or recommend movies and shows that are both topical and under-the-radar. Exclusive: Legendary director John Woo has signed with Independent Artist Group. Famous for his pioneering work in the Hong Kong action genre stamped with balletic scenes of stylized violence that inspired a generation of Hollywood films, Woo just directed the remake of his signature film The Killer. Netflix’s 2024 batch of family crime dramas have been quite the test of patience. Things started off pretty rocky with Fool Me Once, which featured rich people doing murderous things (I watched it in January and I don’t remember the details). That was followed by The Brothers Sun, which was packed with some of the most enjoyable stunts and a lot of heartwrenching mother-son drama. The streaming platform lulled me into a sense of comfort with the equally amazing House of Ninjas, which was about, you guessed it, a family full of Shinobi facing a deadly threat. Then, things started to go off the rails. Eric was all over the place. Tribhuvan Mishra CA Topper established some sort of stability. But the triple-punch delivered by The Accident, The Perfect Couple, and Blood Legacy demolished the genre’s reputation. And, while I thought they were done with this nonsense, now...

Like the week before, Luminate measured “The Perfect Couple” and “Rebel Ridge” as the No. 1 most-watched streaming original series and film, respectively, in the U.S. during of the week of Sept. 13-19.

“The Perfect Couple” hit 1.8 billion minutes watched during its second full week of availability on Netflix, down from a massive debut of 3.4 billion minutes watched the week before. “Emily in Paris” Season 4 took second place among TV titles and overall, edging out “Rebel Ridge’s” 842.5 million minutes watched with its own 985.7 million after the release of Part 2.

"Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter" debuted at No. 3 with 738.1 million minutes watched, while "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" took No. 4 in its second week on the chart with 537.6 million minutes watched.

Season 2 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" landed in fifth place with 346.4 million minutes watched, down from the previous week, when it was fourth-most-watched with 372.7 million minutes.

In Hollywood history, only a few films have left a lasting impact like the 1999 Fight Club. With characters like Brad Pitt’s Tyler Durden, Helena Bonham Carter’s Marla Singer, and even Edward Norton’s The Narrator, the film has gone on to become a cult classic. However, the David Fincher movie was not always seen as an iconic one. In fact, when it first premiered 25 years ago, critics who got to see it at the Venice Film Festival were not too impressed.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” Season 2 suffered a major viewership drop in its second week on Luminate’s weekly streaming originals chart.

Last week, the Amazon Prime Video series managed to nab second place with 764.7 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability of its first three episodes combined with the first day of availability of its fourth episode. But during the Sept. 6-12 viewing window — which included the first full week of Episode 4 and the first day of Episode 5 — it only hit 372.7 million minutes watched, landing in fourth place. While there was less new content to watch compared to the week before, when the first three episodes has just debuted, it still doesn’t bode well for a large IP title to drop by more than 50% after one week, when word-of-mouth appeal should still be high. It should be noted that Luminate only measures U.

Dave Bautista's new action movie has franchise potential, and here's whether The Killer's Game has a post-credits scene teasing more. The 2024 action film spent decades in development before Bautista managed to help get it made. By teaming up with Lionsgate, the movie adaptation of Jay Bonansinga's 1997 novel is one that, on the surface, looks like it could become a new franchise. Another week, another David Fincher rumour. Given how many stories we’ve heard of late regarding Fincher’s next project for Netflix, we’re beginning to wonder if the Fight Club filmmaker is orchestrating a disinformation campaign worthy of Project Mayhem, the anarchist movement from his 1999 masterpiece.

Recent weeks have seen stories emerge that suggested Fincher would be remaking Squid Game, the hit South Korean Netflix show as an English language film. Just a few days ago, a story appeared that claimed he would be making a western next titled Bitteroot, modelled after the style of Clint Eastwood’s 1992 classic, Unforgiven. Oh, and it doesn’t seem like that long ago since reports suggested that his next film would be a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers On A Train.

Dave Bautista stars in a new action movie, The Killer's Game, and he does what Jason Statham, Michael Keaton, and Wesley Snipes could not in the process. The 2024 movie puts Bautista back in the familiar territory of being an action star. After his breakout role in Guardians of the Galaxy in 2014, the WWE wrestler-turned-actor gained attention in Hollywood as a potential leading man in the genre thanks to his muscular build and natural physical abilities. This ultimately led him to land the lead role in The Killer's Game and get a chance to headline a long-gestating project.

With movies such as The Killer, Hard Boiled, Face/Off, Mission: Impossible 2, and more, the director has delivered some of the greatest action in the history of cinema, but his next project will be a big departure. While speaking with Empire, John Woo confirmed that his next movie will be a “half-musical” made in collaboration with Sparks, the pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron and Russell Mael.

“My next project is actually a half-musical,” Woo said. “I’m going to be working with the Sparks Brothers, who wrote the script and songs — we are just starting work on some changes to the script.” The director then joked that this “will be my first movie where I don’t need to hire a stuntman.” Woo has wanted to tackle a musical for some time, even coming close to helming...

Terribly exciting all the same, not only as a collision of two super-distinct sensibilities but a kind-of-fulfillment of the brothers’ longtime love for (and occasional dabbles with) Hong Kong cinema. The long-awaited sequel might be the last time the Oscar-nominated actor is officially credited as Michael Keaton, which has been his stage name since the start of his career in 1978.

Speaking to People magazine for a new cover story, Keaton said that he plans to change his official acting credit to something that’s closer to his birth name, Michael Douglas. Just last week we covered the widely reported story that David Fincher’s next project was set to be an English language remake of the hit South Korean TV show, Squid Game. The story was widely reported of course because this is David Fincher, one of the most admired directors of our era and as such, there’s plenty of interest in whatever project he chooses to attach himself to next.

I wasn't expecting John Woo's long-delayed remake of The Killer to match the original, but I'm so glad it's still an action delight. I saw the original film late at night on the UK's Channel 4 back before I had any awareness of John Woo movies or Hong Kong cinema. The movie's immense style, the exhilarating action and the incredible turn by leading man Chow Yun-fat combine to make The Killer Woo's best movie, period. I soon sought out the rest of his work, including Hard Boiled and the first two Better Tomorrow movies.

The Killer is directed by John Woo, who is adapting his own 1989 film. 2024's The Killer features a leading cast including Nathalie Emmanuel, Omar Sy, Sam Worthington, and Diana Silvers.

Director John Woo is known for including unique shots of birds in slow motion scenes in many of his films. Woo’s latest action thriller “The Killer”, which is now available on the Peacock streaming service, continues this directorial signature. Actress Nathalie Emmanuel, who plays assassin Zee in the remake of Woo’s 1989 classic film, recently shared her experience working with live birds on set.

While computer generated imagery, or CGI, is commonly used today, Woo chose to use live birds for the shots. Emmanuel said the real birds performed well under the direction of experienced handlers. “The handlers really knew each bird’s personality and behavior,” said Emmanuel. On one occasion, a handler noticed a bird was in a bad mood and adjusted accordingly.

Working with live animals requires skill since their actions can’t be fully predicted. However, Emmanuel praised the handlers for their expertise in managing the birds and ensuring safe filming.

As the summer movie season comes to a close, August brings a shockingly stacked slate of offerings, topped by a film that is sure to age like a fine classic in years to come.
