Filming took place in the UK in 2022 ahead of a projected late 2023 release. One filming location was reported to be Great Chalfield Manor near Bath, England. Filming was also reported in and around Dover Castle in Kent, as well as Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex. Partly filmed in Langley Park Buckinghamshire UK.
Lord Seymour was in real life the uncle of Edward VI as his sister Jane was Edward's mother.
In the show Guilford's mother and Jane's father were dead before the events began. In real life both were still alive when Jane and Guilford got married.
Jane's youngest sister was not named Margaret, she was Mary. This was likely altered to prevent any confusion between her and Princess then Queen Mary. The Tudors (2007), which focuses on Edward and Mary's father Henry VIII, did the same regarding Jane's grandmother, Mary. Mary had married Charles Brandon in secret, as Frances mentions at one point. In The Tudors, this was attributed to a character named Margaret. Henry had a sister named Margaret, but she had married the King of Scotland, not the Duke of Suffolk.
The series is based on the historical young adult novels by Brodi Ashton, Cynthia Hand and Jodi Meadows. Production company Parkes & MacDonald are producing the series with Gemma Burgess and Meredith Glynn as co-show-runner and executive producers, and Jamie Babbit directing the pilot and executive producer, whilst Sarah Bradshaw and Laurie MacDonald are executive producers. Eight episodes were ordered for season one of the series. In November 2022 Anna Chancellor, Rob Brydon, Dominic Cooper and Jim Broadbent were announced to have supporting roles as aristocrats.
