Benedict Cumberbatch returns to PBS Masterpiece on April 1. However, he isn’t playing Sherlock, the role for which he won an Emmy in 2014. Rather he is headlining an acclaimed adaptation of Ian McEwan‘s 1987 bestseller “The Child in Time.” McEwan also wrote “Atonement,” which was adapted into the 2007 Oscar-winning film that launched Cumberbatch’s career. In this new film, for which he earned rave reviews, he plays Stephen Lewis, a children’s author whose marriage is rocked by the loss of his daughter.
This is a passion project for the actor who readily admits, “I read the novel years ago and it stayed with me: profound, beautiful and very moving. Only Ian McEwan could write about loss with such telling honesty.” And he is just as enthusiastic about his partners. “We’re very excited to have Stephen Butchard’s subtle and brilliant adaptation, and in Julian Farino we have an...

Massimo Dallamano may be best known to some as the cinematographer of Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars (1964) and For a Few Dollars More (1965), credited under the pseudonym Jack Dalmas. Following his collaborations with Leone, Dallamano would only serve as cinematographer twice more (his last credit being French director Michel Deville’s 1966 comedy The Mona Lisa Has Been Stolen starring George Chakiris and Marina Vlady). The explosive popularity of the spaghetti western would allow Dallamano to begin his own career as a director, with 1967 debut Bandidos (credited under another pseudonym, Max Dillman), but he’d soon after turn to the bread and butter of more exploitative genre fare. The director of eleven features, up until his death in 1976, Dallamano’s enduring, fascinating masterpiece stands as the 1972 title What Have You Done to Solange? Credited as a giallo staple, Dallamano’s film is more of a hybrid of subgenres, a mixed giallo and poliziotteschi film.

Spike Lee is disgusted with fellow director Quentin Tarantino’s depiction of slavery in his latest flick ‘Django Unchained,’ and he’s blasting the ‘disrespectful’ movie on Twitter! Whose side are you on?
Spike Lee has criticized Quentin Tarantino’s work in the past, and now, the director says he’d be disrespecting his ancestors if he were to see the slavery revenge flick Django Unchained. He’s boycotting the movie because he finds it insulting.
“American Slavery Was Not A Sergio Leone Spaghetti Western. It Was A Holocaust. My Ancestors Are Slaves. Stolen From Africa. I Will Honor Them,” Spike wrote on Twitter.
“I can’t speak on it ’cause I’m not gonna see it. I’m not seeing it,” Spike also said in a video interview with VibeTV. ”All I’m going to say is that it’s disrespectful to my ancestors to see that film. That...

Nicolas Cage once again stars as Nicolas Cage in Stolen, with a new trailer featuring the main man in a somewhat subdued capacity and an over-the-top Josh Lucas.
Wild man Cage has made a career out of unleashing his crazy self in front of the camera, but he actually seems to reign in the craziness a little bit in this trailer that stars him as a former thief forced to pull off one last heist to rescue his daughter from his former partner in crime. Meanwhile, Josh Lucas seems to grab some of that wacko juice, not so much in the way he acts, but how he looks. I didn’t even recognize him until he opened his mouth and spoke.
Hollywood rolls out a tired plot in the movie formerly known as Medallion, making this a must-see for Lucas or Cage fans, and pretty much nobody else. The synopsis...

Poor New Orleans. Seven years after being hit by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Crescent City is doing battle with what look to be two new calamities: the upcoming movies from Nicolas Cage and Sylvester Stallone.
An odd twist of fate finds Stallone's Bullet to the Head and Cage's Stolen both set in the Big Easy. An even odder twist of fate finds the trailers for both flicks released in the same week after the films themselves have been sitting on the shelf for more than a year. A twist of fate that's not at all odd is the fact that both movies look like stinkers. Actually, that's not really a twist of fate. That's just reality; therefore, I guess the universe remains in balance.
Bullet to the Head (formerly titled Headshot) is the story of an aging hit man, played by Stallone, whose partner is whacked. So, of course...

If Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance didn’t give you enough of Nicholas Cage to last the year, fear not. There’s more. 2012 will end with 2 films from the Oscar winning actor. First up is Nicolas Cage, John Cusack and Vanessa Hudgens in the new trailer for Frozen Ground (via THR).
In this taut and gripping, true-life thriller, Alaska State Trooper, Glen Flothe (Cage), partners with Cindy Paulson (Hudgens), to bring Alaska’s most notorious serial killer, Robert Hansen (Cusack), to justice.
As the bodies of women start to add up, Sgt. Flothe goes on a personal manhunt to find a serial killer who has silently stalked the streets of Anchorage for more than 13 years. When 17 year-old Cindy Paulson escapes Hansen’s unspeakable violence, she believes the law will take him down. Instead she finds herself, once again, fighting for her life. A general rule of thumb to follow when dealing with modern Nic Cage movies is that the more ridiculous his hair looks in the trailer, the more awesomely bad the movie is going to end up being. Given that criteria, it doesn’t seem like his latest film, Stolen, is really going to be anything to write home about. Just look at that relatively short, slicked back, graciously-accepting-the-receding-nature-of-the-hairline do that he’s sporting here—it’s almost typical for a man his age. Given the apparent lack of lunacy, is Stolen even going to be worth watching? Maybe. It’s important to keep in mind that this project is re-teaming the actor with his Con Air director, Simon West, and Con-Air is one of the seminal, balls-crazy Nic Cage action films. He plays a character named Cameron Poe in that one, for heaven’s sake. There’s bound to be at least some residual craziness seeping into...

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like the success of Taken has led to an increase in the number of revenge movies being made as of late and Nicolas Cage happens to be starring in at least half of them. This week a trailer has arrived online for another riff on Taken called Stolen that finds Nicolas Cage reteaming with Con-Air director Simon West (who also just directed The Expendables 2). Cage plays a father whose daughter is kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi, the twist being that Cage's character is a former thief who must pull off one last heist to get the ransom money. However, if you thought Cage was likely to be the most ridiculous thing about this movie, think again: Josh Lucas plays the dirtbag kidnapper with long, scraggly hair and a cut under one eye. Cage's daughter is played by Sami Gayle,...

Here, let us pitch you a movie. It stars Nicolas Cage—wait! Before you start shouting, "I need to see this," let us finish.
It stars Nicolas Cage as a bank robber. There's more. In this movie, he plays a bank robber, who gets caught pulling a job, and when he gets released from prison, his partner, played by a long-hair, strung-out Josh Lucas, demands his share of the money, which Cage destroyed. To make sure he gets his take, this former partner kidnaps Cage's daughter.
We know what you're thinking. "Of course, I want to see this movie. Why would anyone not want to see this movie?" But for the sake of argument, you should probably just check out the first trailer for Nicolas Cage in "Stolen" (via Yahoo! Movies).
We told you. You can check out the synopsis for "Stolen" below.

Like any successful distribution label should, Millennium Entertainment has accrued an instantly recognizable strain of action film with which their brand is linked, so when their logo pops up the trailer for their latest release “Stolen” -- and Jason Statham, Cuba Gooding Jr., or Clive Owen is nowhere in sight -- naturally there's only Nicolas Cage left to deliver the goods. Written by David Guggenheim (“Safe House”), and directed by Simon West (marking a reunion with Cage after “Con Air”), the film at least had the makings of a decent thriller in its veins. However, from the opening moments of the trailer -- featuring a former thief Cage emerging from prison (looking painfully serious) only to find his estranged daughter kidnapped by his old partner (Josh Lucas) -- it looks like the under-lit, throw-away actioner that tax-credit friendly New Orleans filmmaking tends to exhibit on its worst days. In the villain role,...

You are Will Montgomery, a master thief who gets double-crossed on a heist gone awry. After eight years, you’re released from prison, only to discover that your disgruntled former partner has kidnapped your daughter in a taxicab and is holding her for ransom to get his cut of the original robbery’s haul. What do you do? Since you’re played by Nicolas Cage, you shout a lot, run a lot and punch people while looking like someone poisoned your dog. Check out the trailer for Stolen below, available thanks to the good people at Yahoo.Yes, it really does look like a big ol' Cage action thriller, with Malin Akerman as the love interest and Josh Lucas channelling Kurt Cobain for his stringy blond look. Here's a the first trailer to Nicolas Cage's terrible looking movie, Stolen. What's crazy is this movie actually has a decent director and cast, unfortunately the movie looks like a piece of crap to me. The movie was directed by Simon West (Con Air, Tomb Raider), and also stars Josh Lucas, Malin Akerman and Danny Huston.
When I see a movie like this, it makes me wonder if any of investors or studio executives actually read the script before they greenlit it. I Imagine the pitch meeting went something like this.... "It's like the movie Taken only it's not!" It seems like a direct to DVD knock-off movie, especially with that title... Stolen.
Here's the Synopsis:

Just when you think he’s getting back on track, Nicolas Cage goes and makes something like this. Even worse? I (only now) remember hearing about Stolen some six months or so ago and thinking, “Yeah, this could prove to be alright.” After all, the actor can still do his trashy stuff well, given the proper material; the concept of trying to track down one taxi, the trunk of which contains his character’s daughter, sounded sort of fun; and, when you break it down, Simon West isn’t too bad, either.
The first trailer, however, makes it clear that everyone’s taking a quick paycheck and getting the hell out before anyone else takes notice. Cage… is doing his thing again, but not in the entertaining sense, while Josh Lucas shows up with a ridiculous haircut that should make him look “grungy.” Or something. (Also, why is Justin Bieber...

British action director Simon West's new movie, The Expendables 2, opened nationwide today, but before he aimed his camera lens at Sly, Schwarz, Willis and the rest of the boys, West reunited with Nicolas Cage — who starred in West's very first movie, Con Air — on Stolen (formerly Medallion).
Cage stars as Will Montgomery, an accomplished bank robber who eventually gets caught and ends up spending eight years in prison. After being released, he goes to visit his daughter Alison (Sami Gayle), only to discover that she wants nothing to do with him. Alison may not want her dad in her life, but she needs him and his particular set of skills (apologies to Liam Neeson) when Will's old partner (Josh Lucas) kidnaps her and demands a $10 million ransom. When the cops won't help, Will is forced to do the only thing he can do to save his daughter — rob another bank.

The trailer for the film gives us a look at what Cage's character Will Montgomery is up against as he's tasked with trying to rescue his daughter from the clutches of his old partner. As you'll see in the trailer below, Cage's character is introduced fresh out of prison and looking to patch things up with his estranged daughter. A former thief, he's also looking to turn over a new leaf, but that plan goes down the toilet when his old partner - who believes Will stashed the $10 million they stole eight years ago - kidnaps his daughter Allison and demands payment in exchange for her life. Before he directed “The Expendables 2″, Simon West directed Nicolas Cage in “Stolen”, which according to the poster above, features Nicolas Cage fleeing explosives. Hey, Simon West is nothing if not predictable in that regard. In any case, despite a pretty big cast that also includes Malin Akerman, Danny Huston, and Josh Lucas (okay, so maybe not that big of a cast), the film is going pretty much under the radar, and chances are it might end up like Cage’s last movie, “Seeking Justice”. There's not many movies I come across where I can look at a poster and photos and know for a fact that I don't want to see it. This new Nicolas Cage movie Stolen is one of them. Nicolas Cage’s “Stolen” used to be called “Medallion”, but perhaps they didn’t want to confuse the film with the Jackie Chan movie from 2003, and changed the title. Either way, it’s a blah title, and the first sales art/poster for the movie is equally blah. It’s Nicolas Cage running from an exploding car. That’s overturned. That’s … pretty much the film’s selling point, I guess. If, you know, you’re a Nicolas Cage fanatic. In “Stolen”, Cage plays an ex-thief who is (of course) pulled back into the business when bad guys kidnap his daughter, stuffs her into the trunk of a taxi, and forces him to pull one last job … or else! Oh, the one last job gag. It’s as eternal as TV shows about cops and doctors and lawyers. Cage co-stars with Josh Lucas, Danny Huston, Mark Valley, Sami Gayle, M.C. Gainey,...

While a definitive release date has yet to be locked down, a poster and a collection of stills have debuted for the new Nicolas Cage thriller "Stolen" (formerly "Medallion," which made it sound like a negligible Jackie Chan movie), with the appropriately Nic Cage-y tagline: "12 hours. $10 million. 1 kidnapped daughter." We're not sure about the math, but we're certainly excited about the movie!

Check everything out below. Passion: Isabelle (Rapace) has unlimited admiration for her direct superior, Christine (McAdams), a woman well-schooled in the ways of power. Christine enjoys holding sway over Isabelle, leads her one step at a time and ever more deeply into a game of seduction and manipulation, of dominance and servitude. Stolen: A former thief (Cage) frantically searches for his missing daughter, who has been kidnapped and locked in the trunk of a taxi. With over 125 movie and television credits and growing, Mark Isham, has composed some of the great movie scores in the last three decades including Quiz Show (1994), October Sky (1999), Men of Honor (2000) and Crash (2004). They are a minuscule sample of his memorable works. My personal favorite of his library is his potent and emotionally-packed melodies for The Cooler (2003) where you ride Bernie Lootz’s highs when he’s hot and lows when he is the gutter.
One of Isham’s current jobs is composing for ABC’s fantasy series Once Upon a Time. This is the first in a series of interviews BuzzFocus conducted at Wondercon 2012 with film and TV composers. We spoke with Isham about this ongoing challenge for him and how it’s pushed him creatively in new ways as a composer. But first, take a few minutes to listen to Isham’s music for Once Upon a Time.

Jessica Chastain was in Morocco when we spoke, jurying on a film festival. Or was she in Toronto filming a movie? No, maybe she was right here in New York City or in Los Angeles for a premiere or event? Who can say. It's been a dizzying year. Her definition of "staying put", I quickly discover, is staying in one place for a whole week. "I don't think this is a normal year for an actor," she says understating the case.
Chastain reigns over 2011's movies
She sounds bright and cheerful and ready for more movies, believe it or not, though she admits that the year has been tough on her personal life. This past summer she starred in two of the most talked about films of the year (The Tree of Life and The Help) and in the fall she was doing press for four more (The Debt, Take Shelter,...

Simon West is a busy man. The Con Air auteur is in the midst of shooting The Expendables 2, will release Medallion (more on that in a second) just a few months apart from the sequel, and has Thunder Run either in production or prepping to shoot. Somehow, THR informs us that he’s in talks for yet another project, Dust and Glory. Based on Evan Green‘s romantic adventure novel, the story is set during “the 1950s’ Redex trials, which covered more than 10,000 miles of some of the toughest racing terrain in Australia, if not the world.” The actual plot — adapted by Robert Lewis Galinsky and noted as “a cross between Mad Max and Jewel of the Nile” — follows “the rivalry between an American hotshot and an Australian legend.”
Top Cat Productions and Blue Star Entertainment will be independently producing the film, which is expected to go before cameras this coming summer in Australia.

I’ve long considered the possibility that Top Model is just a schizophrenic fever dream taking place entirely in Tyra Banks’ head, as her multiple personalities battle each other for dominance until they’re winnowed down to one, just like that movie with John Cusack. The opening sequence of the season premiere did nothing to dissuade me of that notion, showing Tyra in bed being haunted by nightmarish visions of herself dressed as contestants of previous cycles demanding to be allowed to compete once more. She wakes up sobbing and terrified, agreeing to do an All-Star season just to make...

Attention, moviegoers:
Here is the preemptive answer to the question each one of you will, inevitably, ask at some point over the next six months:
Her name is Jessica Chastain, and she's here to stay.
The angelic redhead in the highbrow, Cannes-winning "The Tree of Life," and the dyed blonde Monroe-esque bombshell in this weekend's new hit "The Help," the Juilliard-trained stage veteran is all of a sudden everywhere.
"Oh my god, I keep telling people, you're going to have to go out of your way to not see a film I'm in this year," the bubbly actress laughed in a conversation with The Huffington Post. "It's an amazing problem to have. It's wonderful to be an actor with so many movies out."
It's not an exaggeration; Chastain has a total of seven films scheduled for 2011 release. In part due to the unique frustrations of Hollywood - "The Tree of Life...

So far I've collected six separate 2010 compilation videos looking back at the this year's collection of films. To the best of my knowledge, these six videos include clips from 303 films and together they total 34:34. I have included the complete list of films on the second page if you are interested. Let me know if I'm missing any, but I think it's pretty safe to say if you liked a film in 2010 one of these following videos will feature it.
So, have a watch and leave your thoughts on which one is your favorite in the comments below and if you find another one online that I should add to the collection shoot me an email.

If you were trapped under a rock this year (it happens) take six minutes to watch this YouTube short. Half music video, half trailer remix, “Filmography 2010″ cuts together the year’s hits, flops and everything in between to catchy music.
Even if you’re a jaded movie buff who hates year end schmaltz, the recap should pluck your heartstrings. So many great and touching moments this year, it’s enough to make you wonder how the Golden Globes managed to totally blow their nominations.
But we digress. Check out the video after the jump.
How many films do you recognize? Below is full list of the films in the order that they appear. Enjoy!

Every December these ‘best of the year’ video montages make the last 12 months of cinema seem infinitely more pleasant to sit through than they actually were. Here’s the first of many that are sure to be made before the sand in the hourglass runs out on 2010, this one from a gal going by the name of Gen I, who sent in this effort to /film.
There’s 270 movies in this montage below ranging from all the well known blockbusters, to smaller docs, foreign fare and even some Japanese anime! I can’t begin to imagine how long or how much skill it takes to put something as high-quality as this together…

Now that we're about two weeks till the end of 2010, the film industry will be looking back to figure out the best movies of the year and will pick winners during the many awards shows. Today, we have a video that captures 2010 pretty well by showing scenes from the year's 270 films, including some that have yet to hit theaters. There will likely be plenty more of these montages in the next few weeks, but the video is definitely one of the better ones that I have seen. Check out the six-minute video below, in addition to a full list of all the films that were used. Questions: How many of the films listed did you actually see in full? It's getting closer and closer to the end of the year, and we've already seen a couple top 10 lists and critic choice awards announced. Since we began posting "best of the year" video montages a few years back, it seems a lot of new wannabe video editors have emerged. Maybe the software has become cheaper or more accessible, or maybe the coverage on sites like /Film and other movie blogs garnered interest in the task. Last year I received a dozen or so best of videos, most of them were not anything we would share on the site. I think we posted three in total last year, two of which were created by video editors we've featured in previous years [1]. Today I was sent the first "best of 2010" video montage of the season, from a video editor named Gen I. I'll admit that while I was expecting the worst, I came out pleasantly surprised.

The fact of the matter is that JustPressPlay get lots of stuff sent to us, and what we don't review we usually pass on to our readers. Over the last year or two we've accumulated a pile of random titles that either didn't get claimed in giveaways and contests or who knows what. Perhaps a Russian spy intervened in our attempts to distribute them. We don't know. All we know is that we have 6 separate packs of 5 randomly selected titles (on DVD and Blu-ray) that we'll give to 6 random readers. They're all unopened, so if you're needing some stocking stuffers on the cheap - come on and enter. And no, we don't gift wrap.
Read on to learn how to win and a sample list of some of the better titles sprinkled in these packs of random awesome.
