About as dull as your usual white-coater fake porn documentary, MASTER'S DEGREE benefits from the casting of pretty actresses like Susan Westcott as the visual aids. They even have clean feet for a change! Principal drawback to this Sam Lake Enterprises release is a misguided attempt at "style", in the form of shooting the bed footage in soft focus with diffusion & distortion by hanging beads and other objects in the foreground. Those horny porn patrons back in 1971 wanted to see the old in & out clearly, not mucked about.

A buck-toothed blonde (Heather Starr) is the host, implied to be one psychologist/marriage counselor Sheila Rossi. She played a similar front-man role in the white coater LET'S PLAY DOCTOR. Her voice-over drivel is of little import (the usual nonsense about variety, positions and happy marriages), just there to avoid censorship. As Warner Wolf used to say on the Sports segment of local newscasts: "let's go to the videotape!".

And Miss Sheila switches to the bed scenes for seven sexual vignettes, delivering the XXX footage fans paid for. Numero uno has Susan (attractive Lynn Holmes) masturbating because she is unfulfilled by her hubby. The penetration shots of her vibrator in her vagina qualify this as XXX while hubby tries out cunnilingus.

Segment two shows Cathy (cute brunette with attractive nipples Anna Travers) finding release via lesbian sex. She's mainly passive but we also see sixty-nine demonstrated, and plenty of mandatory split-beaver closeups.

Third vignette escalates the explicitness, dealing with Mark who isn't virile enough to satisfy wifey Joan. He tries role-playing, supposedly treating Joan like a prostitute, and what we witness is her expert hand job. With cunnilingus, simulated intercourse, but explicit fellatio & ejaculation this segment delivers the goods. Joan has distinctive fake eye-lashes -an important detail for later in the film.

In segment #4 Diane and Harry (Sheldon Lee, an all-purpose thesp) specialize in cunnilingus. The unidentified "Diane" actress has impressive nipples and tawny hair.

Light bondage is the subject of the fifth vignette. Peggy is all tied up as hubby Bob (Tony Deluca) gets slightly rough with her. Romantic music accompanies a sensual fellatio routine, but when he humps her it is simulated.

The "marriage" gimmick is violated (only for the eagle-eyed) as Tony Deluca pops up again as husband Jim in Segment #6. Wife Evelyn is amazingly sensual, making this cock-centric vignette about fellatio the film's likely highlight.

Susan Westcott takes center stage in the finale, as unsatisfied wife Sandra B. who takes a younger lover (it's Sheldon Lee again). They co-starred as a married couple in the John Holmes film OLE!, and he definitely doesn't look younger than her. Worse yet, when she gives him a blow job it isn't Westcott but obviously a reprise of some closeup XXX footage of "Joan" from Segment #3, identifiable by her goofy eyelashes and hair style. Why they didn't let pro Westcott do her own stunts is beyond me.

End of the film is slightly shredded, garbling the narration, but by then it's time to go home, an okay serving of circa 1971 hardcore sex having been consumed.
