“Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream” winners Stevie Doc and Tobias Turley have ended their West End run.
The duo, who have been playing leads Sophie and Sky in the long-running Abba-inspired musical, were plucked from obscurity after winning the ITV talent show “Mamma Mia! I Have a Dream” last year.
They immediately went into rehearsals and made their West End stage debuts at the beginning of this year. Their run was always scheduled to end Oct. 5. Both are keeping their next steps under wraps.
Izi Maxwell (“Six”) will be taking over as Sophie and Ben Irish (“Frozen the Musical”) as Sky.
“Safe to say that I had the absolute time of my life working with such a wonderful cast, truly a remarkable experience and incredible opportunity!,” Doc told Variety. “At times, the work was hard but both rewarding and enjoyable all the same- especially having the chance to work...

When :a[Aquaman]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies/reviews/aquaman-review/' target='_blank' rel='noreferrer noopener'} flooded into cinemas at the end of 2018, it seemed intent on being more than just an ocean-based comic book blockbuster. Across its runtime, it took in all kinds of other genres – moments of (literal) fish-out-of-water comedy; that all-out horror sequence in the Trench; scenes of Indiana Jones-esque action-adventure; a Mamma Mia-ish jaunt to mediterranean climes. And for his sequel, Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom, director James Wan is looking towards another genre template to fuse with the demands of a thunderous action-fantasy film.
“From the start, I pitched that the first film would be a Romancing The Stone-type thing – an action-adventure romantic comedy – while the second would be an outright buddy comedy,” he tells Empire in the world-exclusive new :a[Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom]{href='https://www.empireonline.com/movies...

Well before it even dropped, Netflix's new show "Neon" found itself embroiled in a bit of controversy. After all, how could a show that follows the trials and tribulations of a young reggaetonero on his path to fame allegedly not include Puerto Rican voices in its conception when the island - along with Panama - helped to pioneer the genre and take it to new heights? Well, after a few course corrections and the participation of reggaeton leyenda Daddy Yankee himself, "Neon" is finally available to stream. And while the criticism about the reported lack of Puerto Rican participation was warranted, it doesn't tell the whole story of what the show's trying to achieve in the first place.
You see, "Neon" isn't a story about the perreo born in Puerto Rico. Nor is it a story about the reggae en Español produced by Panama. It is a story about the global,...

Patti LuPone — the Tony-winning, brassy Broadway legend with a penchant for strong opinions — let everyone know exactly how she feels about Abba and their hit “Mamma Mia!” musical in a new joint interview with Nathan Lane on Wednesdsay.
To hear her tell it on “The A24 Podcast,” LuPone has never even seen “Mamma Mia!” on stage or on film out of protest against the Swedish pop supergroup of 1970s fame.
“I’ve never seen ‘Mamma Mia!’ I’ve never seen any of the movies. Every time their music’s on, I turn it off,” LuPone said, detailing her hatred for the band. “I protest them.”
“How can you hate Abba?” Nathan Lane asked, shocked.
Turns out, it has to do with LuPone love of rock ‘n’ roll from the same era. The pop-dance stylings of members Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad just never sat right with her.

Attorneys for numerous artists from Luis Fonsi and Anitta to Pitbull and Karol G are responding to a lawsuit that claims that hundreds of reggaeton songs infringed the copyright of one reggae track from 1989. They want the lawsuit tossed.
The original case, filed by Jamaican duo Steely & Clevie in 2021, claims that nearly 2,000 songs have sampled and interpolated the reggae track “Fish Market” since its release.
On Thursday, 107 of the more than 150 musicians named as defendants filed three motions asking a judge to dismiss the case, according to documents obtained by Dancehall Mag.

Newcomer Aleesha has been playing with a wide sound palette: The up-and-coming singer might be known for silky R&b experiments, but recently, she’s been doing everything she can get her hands on. She jumped headfirst into lo-fi rock on the track “Amigos” last month, and she showed off her sleek balladry on “Mia.” Now, she’s teamed up with Dominican mainstays Haraca Kiko and El Cherry Scom for the dembow track “Melacomo.”

A24 has its next psychological drama queued up, and it stars Emily Watson and Paul Mescal as a mother-son duo. "God's Creatures," set in an Irish fishing village, follows the strained relationship of Mescal's Brian O'Hara and Watson's Aileen O'Hara after a gruesome accusation of sexual assault threatens to unravel their family. A24 released the film's first trailer on Aug. 16, and it teases more details about a prodigal son's fall from grace in what critics describe as a chilling thriller.
Directing duo Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer premiered "God's Creatures" at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, which took place from May 17 to 28. Watson, at the annual cinema event, spoke to Deadline about the film and its connections to reality. "Mothers give their sons alibis for sexual crimes, and they are believed. Who’s down for another round of sex, lies and Instagram stories? HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot will resume its first season on Thursday, Nov. 25 (aka Turkey Day!), TVLine has learned.
And considering how the show left things in August, this new batch of Upper East Siders has plenty of drama to sort out. As you may recall, the midseason finale ended with Julien and Obie kissing at a protest; Rafa intercepting a jaw-dropping sex tape that Max sent to Gossip Girl; Aki accidentally coming out to his parents, whose support proved curiously opportunistic; and Audrey, Aki and Max...

Bad Bunny is arguably the biggest Latin crossover star of the last decade, with Spanish-language albums and Spanish-language singles consistently in the top 10 or topping the charts. So it’s pretty surprising that he hasn’t won Best Latin at the MTV Video Music Awards yet, especially since the VMAs are decided by music fans and Bad Bunny has fans in droves. But this year he could finally take home a moon person. And he has two chances to do so.
He’s nominated this year for two collaborations: “Dakiti” with Jhay Cortez and “Un Dia (One Day)” with J Balvin, Dua Lipa, and Tainy. According to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users, “Dakiti” will be his winner, with 13 of our Top 24 Users currently betting on that video, and for good reason. Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown have been announced as hosts of the 2021 CMT Music Awards, set to air June 9. Ballerini is new to the role; Brown returns for a second consecutive year.
The show will air not just on CMT but on four other MTV Entertainment Group outlets — MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount Network and TV Land.
Little has been revealed about the show to date — still Mia: performers, presenters, a location and the presence or non-presence of an audience — but nominations for the awards are being promised for Thursday morning.
For anyone feeling a sense of deja vu, the 2020 CMT Awards were held just last October, as one of many kudocasts that delayed a spring or summer berth to the fall as a result of the pandemic. Brown co-hosted last fall’s show with fellow country artist Ashley McBryde and actor Sarah Hyland.

The Boys are kicking things up a notch in Season 2. When the Amazon Prime series returns on Friday, Sept. 4, “it’s a lot more intense” than the show’s freshman run, showrunner Eric Kripke said during a Comic-Con @ Home panel on Thursday.
“We worked hard to make Season 2 crazier, but also more emotional and higher-stakes,” Kripke previewed. “Everyone’s in a really tight spot. The Boys are wanted fugitives coming off of last season. They’re hunted. They’re basically totally screwed, and they’re doing their best to fight back at Vought, however they can, but Season 1 was a big loss for them.

Apple TV+ was one of the biggest product launches in years for Apple. But you wouldn’t know that from Apple’s just-released earnings on Tuesday.
The streaming service, which launched last November after years of stops and starts, was not mentioned once in the tech giant’s first-quarter earnings report. During the subsequent earnings call with analysts, CEO Tim Cook dedicated only a brief mention of the new service when he said it was off to a “rousing start” but declined to disclose any actual subscriber numbers.
D.A. Davidson analyst Tom Forte asked how the company is “gauging success” for Apple TV+: Is it by critical acclaim, the “number of consumers who are using the service” or the service’s contribution to its revenue?
