Prime Video's "Tomb Raider" series has seemingly found its Lara Croft in "Game of Thrones" veteran Sophie Turner, according to a report from Deadline.
At the end of October, the same outlet released an initial exclusive saying that Turner was a top choice to play the titular tomb raider alongside Lucy Boynton, with Emma Corrin ("The Crown") and Mackenzie Davis ("Station Eleven") also potentially in the running. Now, it seems as if the show, which is being spearheaded by "Fleabag" creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, may have settled on its lead actor.
If this comes to fruition, Turner certainly has big shoes to fill — she would join Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander as the only other two performers to play Lara Croft in live-action. It's important to make this abundantly clear: the report says that Turner is "in negotiations," so this bit of casting still isn't official just yet. I...

From Westeros to some of the most exotic and dangerous catacombs in the world, Amazon MGM’s “Tomb Raider” series has found its Lara Croft.
“Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner is in talks to play Lara Croft in Amazon MGM’s live-action “Tomb Raider” series, according to multiple reports. The series is being created by “Fleabag” star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and it would be the first time the video game character would be adapted as a live-action series.
Amazon MGM declined to comment. Reps for Turner declined to comment.
Turner would follow in the footsteps of both Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who played Croft in two separate film iterations, Jolie in films from 2001 and 2003, and Vikander in a film from 2018. The game franchise has also found new life on screen thanks to an animated series for Netflix, “Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.” That series, in which Hayley Atwell voices Lara Croft,...

When criminal Oscar (played Mamoudou Athie) uncovers Cole’s abilities, he forces him to hack the account of the Sarah (Sasha Calle, best known for The Flash), draining nearly a million dollars. Cole discovers that a powerful, mob-connected lawyer (Jeffrey Donovan) has been using Sarah to hide his money. "Game of Thrones" came to an end in May of 2019 — enraging fans with its lackluster final season — but people are still asking its stars, years later, if they'd consider returning to Westeros somehow. The latest "Game of Thrones" veteran to answer this question? Sophie Turner — who made her industry debut playing Sansa Stark, a shrewd strategist and eldest daughter of the powerful Northern family House Stark.
While speaking to Variety about her newest project "Joan," interviewer K.J. Yossman brought up the show that made Turner famous, asking, "Could we ever see the return of Sansa Stark?" Turner basically said no, but also admitted she's curious about how the character would be faring today.
"Maybe," Turner said. "I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and the exact same crew otherwise I wouldn't go back and that would just be season 9, and I don't think we're going to do a season 9, but,...

But she finds an unlikely subject for a new book when the house next door is bought by Nile Jarvis (Rhys), a famed and formidable real estate mogul who was once the prime suspect in his wife’s disappearance. [This story contains spoilers from episode three of American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, “Pray the Gay Away.”]
Patrick Schwarzenegger’s brief but buzzy portrayal of college football great Tim Tebow in Ryan Murphy’s latest production American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez is surprisingly one he sought. “I wish they just came to me and said, ‘you want to play Tim Tebow?’ I’m not on that level yet,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It came to me just in my inbox as a good ole audition.”
The small size of the role in the 10-episode limited series about the troubled NFL star whose fall from grace involved murder and suicide didn’t deter Schwarzenegger, who admits he takes a different approach to acting than his very famous father.
“It’s funny, because I have a different theory than someone like my dad,” he explains, without naming megastar Arnold Schwarzenegger. “My dad is always like, ‘go for the main title,...

Marvel has a new TV show on deck, and this one should seem familiar.
The aptly named “Agatha All Along” is centered on Kathryn Hahn’s character from “WandaVision” and is indeed named for the catchy tune she sang in that series. The show will follow Agatha as she works to not only get her powers back after Wanda’s spell left her trapped in a TV character persona, but also builds her own coven.
Here’s who we know for sure might be in or associated with that coven in the “Agatha All Along” cast ahead of the show’s Sept. 18 premiere on Disney+.

French true crime broke barriers this year when the non-fiction miniseries “Unsuspected” premiered at Series Mania.
Such a showcase is rare for a factual program, but then, “Unsuspected” is a no common doc. Bringing together a pair of filmmakers with respective backgrounds in narrative features and investigative reporting, the four-part inquiry into a maddening 1970s cold case mixes archival accounts with textured recreations, making for a project that defies easy categorization.
“Clearly, the boundaries are becoming blurred,” says France TV Distribution’s Julia Schulte. “Is this fiction? Is this a documentary? It’s hard to say – and we’re getting to a powerful place where those lines are harder to draw. However, what’s abundantly clear is that the series is very, very entertaining.”

When Joe Jonas filed to divorce Sophie Turner in late 2023, people were floored. Not because they split…
But because of the smear campaign that followed.
The Jonas Brother and the Game of Thrones alum had been together for seven years. They welcomed two kids together and seemed to carry out a pretty normal romance behind closed doors.
But then as they decided to part company, things got progressively worse. Ugly things were insinuated about both Joe And Sophie.
Things that even a year later still have not died down. In fact, they may even pop up on Jonas’ next album.
So what actually happened during Joe Jonas’ divorce? And how are both of them moving forward? Let’s dive in.

Parker Posey, once dubbed “Queen of the Indies” by Time in the late 1990s, has more than 110 acting credits to her name. She’s starred in such acclaimed projects as feature films “Dazed and Confused,” “Party Girl,” “You’ve Got Mail,” “Best in Show” and television shows “Boston Legal,” “Lost in Space,” “Louie” and “The Staircase.” But it wasn’t until this year, for her guest appearance on the Amazon Prime Video Series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” that Posey received recognition from the television academy. Is there any entertainment force more seemingly unstoppable than true crime? Humanity’s most dastardly deeds have fascinated audiences for centuries. And in the modern age, the streaming wars and social media are feeding, accelerating, and encouraging that fixation at an unprecedented scale and rate. The result is an unending cycle of notorious crimes revisited via documentary that’s punctuated by real-time internet clips showing everything from minor fights in grocery stores to homicides carried out by police.
As the world gets darker, many TV and movie lovers have turned their attention to this increasingly macabre subject matter to simultaneously distract themselves from the news and lean into the fraught reality of narratives considering real crimes. From podcasts and documentaries to prestige dramas and sitcoms lampooning the genre, true crime is everywhere. Prime Video’s upcoming Sherlock Holmes series Young Sherlock just got even cooler – Colin Firth has joined the cast! The show is based on the novels by Andy Lane and stars Hero Fiennes Tiffin as a younger version of the famous detective.
Firth will take on the role of Sir Bucephalus Hodge, though details on the character are still under wraps. Firth is famous for movies like The King’s Speech, which earned him an Oscar, along with Bridget Jones’s Diary and Kingsman. But he’s no stranger to television either through roles in Pride and Prejudice and The Staircase mini-series.
The show follows 19-year-old Sherlock as he gets wrapped up in his first murder case at Oxford University. With no discipline yet, he’ll have to learn on the job to solve the globe-trotting mystery.
Matthew Parkhill is writing and showrunning Young Sherlock, with Guy Ritchie set to direct some episodes.

Per Variety, the Arkham Asylum TV series has been scrapped. The series, which was in development for Max, had been in the works for a number of years, with a handful of creatives coming and going.
When the series was announced four years ago, it initially didn’t focus on Arkham Asylum. Instead, it was supposed to revolve around the Gotham City Police Department. Terence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) was set to write and executive produce the spin-off of Matt Reeves’ The Batman, but Winter left the series due to creative differences. Joe Barton (The Lazarus Project) then boarded the series, only to leave as well when the focus shifted to Arkham Asylum. The studio then tapped Antonio Campos (The Staircase) to take over, but it seems that the series just wasn’t meant to be. However, an individual with knowledge of the situation did tell Variety that a new Arkham...

A series set inside the prison Arkham Asylum within Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” universe will no longer move forward for Max, an individual with knowledge of the decision told IndieWire.
Antonio Campos, the director known for “Christine,” “The Devil All the Time,” and the Max series “The Staircase,” was previously tapped to be showrunner and director of the Arkham Asylum series. However, Campos is no longer involved, and his version of the series will not come to pass. The individual says it’s possible a different Arkham Asylum series could still happen down the road, including one set within the universe established by Reeves’ film. But Campos’ version is dead.
A rep for Max had no comment.

Variety has confirmed that the previously announced Arkham Asylum TV series is no longer moving forward at Max. It was back in 2022 when we first learned Antonio Campos (The Staircase) had been tapped to serve as The Batman spin-off's writer and showrunner.
This iteration of the show has been scrapped, though it's supposedly possible that a new project set in the infamous Gotham City location could happen down the line. We're not banking on it, unfortunately.
In many ways, this news doesn't come as a surprise. When the show was announced, it had a series commitment but was being developed by Terrence Winter (Boardwalk Empire) and set inside the Gotham City Police Department. He later walked away due to creative differences.
Giri/Haji creator Joe Barton was next to take a crack at the untitled series - which many fans had already unfavourably compared to Fox's Gotham - only to walk...

The gates to Arkham Asylum are closing — for now. A DC show for Max centering on the hospital populated by Batman villains is no longer moving forward, at least in its current iteration, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The latest version of the show had The Staircase‘s Antonio Campos set as showrunner and The Batman filmmaker Matt Reeves as executive producer. While that take is no longer in the works, it’s possible a different version could emerge down the road.
The proposed series went through years of development and changed direction several times. Originally, the show was set in the world of the Reeves-directed The Batman movie and focused on the Gotham Police Department, taking place a year before the movie. Reeves teamed with Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter for a show announced in July 2020, but Winter departed several months later, with Joe Barton set as the new showrunner in January 2021.

The BBC has acquired French crime thriller Sambre – Anatomy of a Crime, which follows the true story of one of France’s most prolific sexual predators.
The six-part series looks at a string of sexual assaults in northern France in the late 1980s, along the same road by the Sambre river. As the police fail to get to grip with the extent of the attacks or make a connection between cases, it is only 30 years later when a culprit is caught.
Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind docuseries The Staircase and the drama Laetitia, recounts the legal case of a serial rapist. The cast includes Alix Poisson (The Returned, Six Women), Clémence Poesy (The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, Tenet), Olivier Gourmet (Oussekine, La Promesse), Noémie Lvovsky (Camille Rewinds, Farewell, My Queen), Jonathan Turnbull (Soldiers) and Pauline Parigot (Soldiers, Hpi).

The BBC has picked up Jean-Xavier de Lestrade’s TV thriller Sambre – Anatomy of a Crime.
Starring Alix Poisson and Clémence Poesy, the series is based on true events and follows the extraordinary legal case of a serial rapist who attacked women across three decades in the same location. The France Télévisions thriller came fresh off the back of the smash success of French movie Anatomy of a Fall.

Jeff Daniels is always a reliably excellent performer whether its in comedy or drama, TV or film, and the veteran actor has turned in another masterclass performance in Netflix’s “A Man in Full.”
Adapted from Tom Wolfe‘s novel of the same name and created by “Big Little Lies” helmer David E. Kelley, “A Man in Full” follows Daniels as real estate mogul Charlie Croker, who tries to protect his empire and legacy from crumbling when he falls into sudden bankruptcy. Daniels dominated the screen here, chewing scenery, spitting it out with venom, and then re-chewing the scenery some more. Whatever you may think of the show, Daniels is never anything less than ferociously good, as noted by critics.
Nick Schager (The Daily Beast) wrote that the show “struts about with swaggering ferocity, led by Jeff Daniels’ full-bodied performance as a blustery, bloviating capitalist predator… ego is both a...

If you don’t know her name, Sally Ride is one of the most famous astronauts in history and one of the most important people in the history of NASA. An astronaut and physicist, Sally Ride joined NASA in 1978, and in 1983 became the first American woman – the third woman overall – to fly in space, after cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova (1963) and Svetlana Savitskaya(1982). She was the youngest American astronaut to have flown in space, having done so at the age of 32. But, aside from being a successful scientist, Sally Ride is also an icon of the LGBT community. Despite her marriage to astronaut Steven Hawley during her spaceflight years, Ride was later in a long-term relationship with former tennis player Tam O’Shaughnessy and is known as the first astronaut known to have been LGBT.
Her story is truly fascinating from both a professional and a private standpoint, which is why it is...

The person sitting on a bed and being interviewed for a documentary is clearly in distress, tears welling.
“Can we take a break for a second?” Delaney Colaio, 18, asks the co-directors of We Go Higher, a documentary about the life experiences of “9/11 Kids,” people with parents murdered in the 2001 terrorist attacks.
Someone offers water, but no break is given to Colaio. The directors, the award-winning Sara Hirsh Bordo and her frequent collaborator Michael Campo, resume firing questions about self-harm, Colaio’s relationship with his mother, and about his father, killed when Colaio was a toddler. During the two-hour-plus session, filmed in August 2017, and the three-hour session the night before, Bordo and Campo also grill Colaio on why he doesn’t want to see the terrorists face the death penalty. Amid all this, Colaio, brown eyes bleary and pained, puts his face in his hands and says he’s had enough,...
