Former The Doctors host Dr. Ian Smith is taking a diagnostic approach to endemic “racial discrimination and retaliation” issues with the syndicated series from ViacomCBS and the Dr. Phil McGraw’s production company. This comes after CBS boss George Cheeks empathetically supposedly told a fired Dr. Smith earlier this year that the situation should’ve “never happened.” and would “be investigated Asap.”
“To date, the CBS investigation remains incomplete,” an “unlawful discriminatory practices” complaint filed in recent days with the New York State Division of Human Rights and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission states (read it here)
“The delay in the investigation is striking given how quickly CBS investigated recent allegations that Sharon Osborne engaged in race discrimination on another CBS daytime talk show called The Talk,” the filing adds of the ex-rock manager’s messy exit in March. Ian Smith, the former host of the syndicated daytime talk show “The Doctors,” has filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the New York State Division of Human Rights alleging racial discrimination and retaliation on the part of ViacomCBS and the show’s producers.
Smith, who was named as the sole host of the show in a drastic reformatting last August, claims his efforts to make the show more inclusive were repeatedly rebuffed by white producers until he was terminated in early January and replaced by a white host.
The complaint lists ViacomCBS, Stage 29 Productions and executive producers Patty Ciano and Jay McGraw as respondents.
“If my client didn’t complain about racism, he would still be the host of ‘The Doctors,'” Smith’s attorney, Rick Ostrove, said in a statement. “His repeated complaints are a show of courage. He stuck his neck...

According to Gretchen Rossi, the first weeks of motherhood aren't always pretty. Less than three months after welcoming her first child with Slade Smiley, the Real Housewives of Orange County star is getting real about the emotions she felt after delivering baby Skylar. "I went through a difficult period where—I realize now—I was depressed and I had a lot of anxiety and sadly I really wasn't connecting with her at the very beginning," she explained while appearing on Thursday's episode of The Doctors. "I went to my pediatrician's appointment and I was crying and I broke down and my pediatrician said, 'You know Gretchen, I think you need to think about the fact that you may...

CBS has renewed “Dr. Phil” for an additional three years, which will take the top syndicated talk show through its 21st season and 2023.
Dr. Phil McGraw is the host and an executive producer on his eponymous and hugely successful daytime talker. He is also an executive producer on “The Doctors,” among other series, and is the inspiration behind CBS’ primetime drama “Bull.”
McGraw’s development deal with CBS Television Studios for Stage 29 Productions, which is run by his son and the CEO Jay McGraw, has several new projects in the pipeline, including “Melanie” and “Chaplain.” That ongoing deal is separate from this one.

Phil McGraw, host and executive producer of Dr. Phil, has signed a new deal with CBS Television Distribution to continue the show through 2023.
The extension adds three years onto McGraw’s current deal and will take the daytime talk show through its 21st season. With Dr. Phil, which has been the highest-rated daytime talk show for the past seven years, and three syndicated daytime programs he is producing for CBS TV Distribution, veteran talk show The Doctors, sophomore newsmagazine DailymailTV and new talker Face the Truth, McGraw has been the highest-paid star in daytime. I hear that McGraw, who also owns his shows, is making around $80 milliton a year from his daytime programs.
Currently in its 17th season, Dr. Phil took the mantle of highest-rated daytime talk show from The Oprah Winfrey Show where McGraw first made his mark before headlining his own talker.

Dr. Phil McGraw has set a multiyear deal renewal of his deal with CBS to host the top-rated “Dr. Phil” daytime talk show through the 2022-23 season.
The pact adds three years to McGraw’s existing deal with CBS Television Distribution. His previous contract had been set to expire at the end of the 2019-20 season. At present “Dr. Phil” is in its 17th year, with the new deal extending him through season 21.
A former regular on “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” McGraw has built a TV and merchandising empire by dishing out a folksy brand of tough love and plain-spoken life advice to wayward teenagers, philandering spouses and the like. The show has ranked as the most-watched series in total viewers in daytime for the past seven years, averaging about 3.8 million viewers a week this season.

Dr. Phil and his son Jay McGraw are developing two new drama series at CBS, Variety has learned.
Both projects will be produced by CBS Television Studios, where the McGraws are set up under an overall deal.
The first project is titled “Chaplain.” It follows a talented, scientifically minded ICU doctor and her free-thinking, faith-oriented brother. They clash over the best approach to the business of saving lives when he is hired as chaplain at her hospital.
The series hails from writers Nick Weiss and Isaac Laskin, with Weiss set to executive produce and Laskin co-executive producing. The McGraws will executive produce along with Julia Eisenman via their Stage 29 Productions banner, with Laurie McCarthy also executive producing.
The other project is titled “Melanie.” In the series, a scattered but astute criminal defense attorney who uses her seemingly inept methods to disarm judges, charm juries, and win cases returns home...

When the 2018 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced on March 21 “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” was the top talk show with 11 bids. That may turn out to be a lucky number for the syndicated series as it’s looking for its 11th overall victory for Best Talk Show. That would extend the record it set last year when it won for the 10th time, surpassing the nine victories that “The Oprah Winfrey Show” racked up between 1987 and 1997 before Winfrey stopped submitting her series for consideration. But while “Ellen” has been a dominant force in daytime TV over the last 15 years, we’ve seen that it’s not unbeatable.
“Ellen” was indomitable early on, debuting in 2003 and winning Best Talk Show for its first four years in a row (2004-2007). But then the television academy split the category in two, distinguishing between entertainment shows like “Ellen” and informative shows like “The Doctors” and “The Chew.
