Ubisoft has been a major contributor to the gaming industry’s growth after developing countless games in various genres in the past few years. Recently, Massive Entertainment finally released its original and ambitious open-world Star Wars project to appeal to fans of single-player games; however, it had a mixed reception, which encouraged the publisher to reconsider its objectives. On the other hand, the rising popularity of Games as a Service motivated the studio to develop XDefiant after the success of Rainbow Six Siege.

After the recent gameplay showcase and deep dive of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft has left many fans feeling cautiously optimistic about the game and the series’ future. Although some have voiced concerns surrounding the game’s dialogue and Yasuke’s half of the game, the overall reception towards the showcase has generally been positive.
One of the more prominent points of praise was Ubisoft’s upgrades to Anvil, their in-house engine. The sheer improvements made to the engine have made it clear that Ubisoft still cares about Assassin’s Creed, at the very least, and wants to take the series in new and innovative directions.

Assassin’s Creed games have always provided a certain degree of freedom to the player when it comes to missions and challenges, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows is no exception. But the player has been limited by the character’s abilities. Assassin’s Creed Syndicate offered some variation in gameplay, where Evie and Jacob Frye had slightly different fighting styles.
Ubisoft appears to have taken a page from this game’s book but gone for even more variation in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The cinematic reveal trailer introduced us to our two main characters, Naoe and Yasuke, along with giving us a glimpse of their capabilities.
Choose Your Playstyle in Assassin’s Creed Shadows What approach will you take in Assassin’s Creed Shadows?
Bringing new characters to the franchise should be more than a simple gender swap option. Players could choose whether to be male or female in Odyssey and Valhalla, but the difference was purely cosmetic.

Anvil have announced their 20th studio album, One and Only, arriving June 28th. The cult thrash-metal heroes also shared the video for lead single “Feed Your Fantasy.”
The Canadian band keeps on chugging, quite literally, on the new song. The hard rock stomp and toe-tapping rhythms set up an inspiring anthem that could be about Anvil themselves, a band that never gave up on its heavy metal aspirations: “Make it all come true / Is what you do / Loving it too / Through and through.”
That Steve “Lips” Kudlow and company are surrounded by some of their biggest fans for the live performance music video drives those lyrics home. The positive energy in the clip is palpable.
“We’re more like our old selves than we’ve been in years,” Lips said of the new album, which is meat-and-potatoes old-school Anvil. “We’ve dropped all our more modern aspects, particularly the ’90s version of Anvil.

Anvil, the Canadian heavy metal band that released the influential Metal on Metal album of the early ’80s and served as the subject of Anvil! The Story Of Anvil, is touring again as the highly-rated documentary is out for rerelease.
Guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner recently sat with uInterview founder Erik Meers to discuss what their life has been like since the documentary was originally released in 2009.
“We’re just carrying on our career quite nicely,” Reiner shared. “The band has become our day job. We love it. All we do is rock when we can.”
The documentary follows the band that had at one time been at the top of their genre but soon fell off the map due to multiple mishaps. Kudlow and Reiner shared some of the instances they think attributed to the downfall of their career.
“Bad managers. S–tty record companies. Being young.

It’s difficult enough to come into your own in your 20s, much less with your country falling apart, your creative life at risk, and your humanity up for debate. But that’s exactly the world in which Shery Bechara and Lilas Mayassi, the heroines of Rita Baghdadi’s documentary “Sirens,” find themselves.
Through breathtaking vérité footage, Baghdadi — who shot, directed and produced — depicts the universal upheaval of youth against a backdrop of unprecedented unrest. As Shery and Lilas navigate their bohemian Beirut lives as members of the all-female metal band Slave to Sirens, the city around them shifts like a sleeping giant.
The result is a documentary so slick it feels more like narrative perfection. Lyrical coming-of-age tales are a dime a dozen at Sundance, where “Sirens” premiered at the beginning of the year, but few such films are as impressive as this one.

The world re-premiere of the rock documentary “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” which took place at the Saban Theatre in Beverly Hills on Thursday night, began when the movie started to play with the houselights still on. Then lights went off, except for a huge monitor just off the stage that continued to shine in the face of the audience. Then, after about a minute, the film lurched to a halt when the screen froze completely.
As a way to kick off a celebration of a film about an influential but only marginally successful heavy metal band that in some ways resembles a real-life Spinal Tap, it was perfect.
And “Anvil!” director Sacha Gervasi said as much when he came onstage after the snafu-filled opening. “As usual with Anvil,” he said, “there was a massive f—up!”
Then again, massive f—ups – and more importantly, the perseverance to get through...

Last Thursday, a stone’s throw from the former headquarters of Larry Flynt’s Hustler empire, a trove of thirsty teenage influencers, A-listers such as Dustin Hoffman and rock stars including Muse’s Matt Bellamy were queueing up to walk the red carpet at a movie premiere.
This wasn’t, however, the latest Marvel launch or an Oscar-bait opening. It was the re-release of a 13-year-old music documentary about a previously relatively unknown heavy metal band from Canada.

British filmmaker Sacha Gervasi knows his hard rock and metal and where to find the drama within those stories, so perhaps, it’s little surprise he’s teaming up with Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson to co-write a screenplay telling the remarkable story of the concert Dickinson played at the height of The Siege of Sarajevo in 1994. Risking their lives, Dickinson and his band Skunkworks—Dickson quit Iron Maiden in 93 for several years to pursue solo projects— were smuggled into the besieged city by the U.N.

Exclusive: Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is teaming up with filmmaker Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil!) to co-write a narrative screenplay about the now-cult rock concert Dickinson played during the height of the Siege of Sarajevo in 1994.
Risking their lives, Dickinson and his band Skunkworks were smuggled into the besieged city by the Un to play a concert for its beleaguered citizens amidst the chaos of war. The journey was captured in a 2016 documentary Scream for Me Sarajevo.
The Siege Of Sarajevo was the longest siege in modern history lasting 1,425 days and resulting in more than 11,000 killed, including 1,600 children. The city was decimated, infrastructure destroyed, and there was wide spread damage to many cultural institutions, government buildings, hospitals, and schools.
In 2019, the Sarajevo City Council granted Dickinson the title of “Honorary citizen of Sarajevo,” in remembrance of his visit and the band’s performance at the peak of the Bosnian war.

About two-thirds into Sky Atlantic’s broadcast of King Rocker, Robert Lloyd – the subject of the film – is talking about how things were going from “bad to worse”. “My Dinner with Herve” “originated from a real story,” reveals Sacha Gervasi. In the summer of 1993 the young journalist was sent to Los Angeles to write “a whole host of very important celebrity interviews, the least important of which was an interview with a now-faded French actor called Herve Villechaize.” But the inconsequential chat turned into a five-day discourse during which the star poured his heart out, only to die by suicide shortly thereafter. Twenty-five years later Gervasi wrote and directed the Emmy-nominated film starring Peter Dinklage as Villechaize and Jamie Dornan as a character based on Gervasi. Watch our exclusive video interview with the filmmaker above.

Now that she’s done with Game of Thrones, Sophie Turner is eager to branch out by playing Boy George.
The 23-year-old actress — who’s currently starring in Dark Phoenix — expressed her delight at being considered for the role of the singer after he raved about her on the Australian radio show Fitzy and Wippa.
“There’s been some really interesting suggestions,” George said of the potential actors that had been brought up to play him via British Vogue. “One of the most interesting suggestions was Sophie Turner.”
He continued, “[People will say] ‘she can’t play you, she’s a woman,’ you know.

The classic rock biopic craze continues with MGM, which is producing a film based on Culture Club frontman Boy George.
Boy George, one of the most recognizable faces from the 1980s, is the next music icon to get swept up in the film industry’s classic rock biopic wave. Indeed, in the spirit of the Oscars-dominating Freddie Mercury biopic, Bohemian Rhapsody, and the buzz-generating Elton John biopic, Rocketman (which hits theaters this weekend), the ostentatiously gender-bending frontman of Culture Club is getting a big screen portrayal of his own from a major studio.
The Boy George biopic, currently untitled, is in the works at MGM, which will produce the film, reports Deadline. The studio has already found its creative fulcrum in Sacha Gervasi, who will serve as director and writer, joined by producers Kevin King Templeton (Creed) and Paul Kemsley, as well as executive producers George and Jessica de Rothschild.

After making a scary splash on the festival circuit, it was recently reported that Demián Rugna's Terrified (aka Aterrados) will be remade as an English-language movie produced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by Rugna, and now the screenwriter for the film has been revealed.
According to multiple sources, including Deadline, Sacha Gervasi has been set to write the English-language remake of Rugna's Terrified (Rugna also wrote the screenplay of his original movie) for Fox Searchlight, where del Toro has a deal to develop horror, sci-fi, and fantasy films.
An acclaimed filmmaker in his own right, Gervasi directed the award-winning documentary 2008's Anvil: The Story of Anvil, 2012's Hitchcock (which explored the life of Alfred Hitchcock during the making of Psycho), and 2017's November Criminals.
For those unfamiliar with Terrified, here's the synopsis (via Shudder): "On an ordinary suburban street in Buenos Aires, voices are heard from kitchen sinks.

“Game of Thrones” aside, Peter Dinklage is not one for epics — in his last two films, he largely starred opposite only one other person. “Obviously, it depends on who you’re working with,” he said. “But if you’re lucky to work with [Jamie Dornan] or Elle Fanning, it’s a joy. That’s all I want to do for the rest of my career, just two people,” he said.
Thus, he’s prioritizing working with a director like Reed Morano on the post-apocalyptic indie film “I Think We’re Alone Now,” or bringing to life the eccentric and fascinating Hervé Villechaize for passion project “My Dinner With Hervé,” the upcoming HBO original film about the days leading up to the death of the “Fantasy Island” star.

HBO has released a new trailer for Peter Dinklage's upcoming film My Dinner with Hervé. Dinklage plays the famous French dwarf actor Herve Villechaize, who is best known for his roles in the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun and Tattoo from the classic series Fantasy Island.
The film centers around the unlikely friendship that "evolves over one wild night in La between a struggling journalist (Jamie Dornan) and actor Hervé Villechaize (Dinklage), resulting in life-changing consequences for both."
This new trailer offers us a much better look at the story and the movie looks great! Dinklage is going to give an extremely fun performance in this film!
The movie was directed by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil, Hitchcock, November Criminals) and also stars Andy Garcia, Mireille Enos, Oona Chaplin, Helena Mattsson, and Harriet Walter.
The movie premieres on HBO on October 20th.

HBO has released the first teaser trailer for a new film called My Dinner with Hervé. The film stars Peter Dinklage in the role of the famous French dwarf actor Herve Villechaize, who many of you will know from the James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun or Tattoo from the series Fantasy Island.

The first trailer gives a good sense of the tone and vibe of the film, but it doesn't offer much other than set up the crazy story. I'm intrigued though, and it looks like it could be a great movie! There's no doubt that Dinklage is going to be awesome in this role that he plays.

Now retired as Christian Grey, Jamie Dornan needs something else to do — so why not co-star with Peter Dinklage in “My Dinner With Hervé,” a new biopic set to debut this October on HBO?
In the 30-second teaser trailer below, the premise of HBO’s latest biopic gets laid out pretty cleanly: Danny Tate (Dornan) is a journalist assigned to speak with Villechaize (Dinklage), “the most famous dwarf in the world.” Villechaize promises he has a story to tell about his life as the star of projects including “The Man With the Golden Gun” and “Fantasy Island.”
While Dinklage does not share Villechaize’s French/Filipino heritage, he is a two-time Emmy winner for his work on “Game of Thrones” and seems committed to mastering the accent work involved. Per HBO, the cast also includes:
Mireille Enos as Hervé’s longtime girlfriend, Kathy Self; Harriet Walter as Danny’s newspaper editor,...

A privileged teen ventures onto the wrong side of the tracks, and a would-be murder mystery veers into ever-more-faux dramatic territory in November Criminals, the third film by Sacha Gervasi (Anvil: The Story of Anvil, Hitchcock). The starry chemistry of leads Ansel Elgort and Chloë Grace Moretz injects a modicum of energy into the coming-of-age drama, whose elements of romance, crime and smart-kid angst never coalesce.
Beyond the movie's missing sense of urgency, it strands David Strathairn and especially Catherine Keener on the sidelines of the narrative clutter. The feature was released to digital streaming outlets in advance of a theatrical run that's sure...

"My friend just got killed... You can't expect me just to sit around and not do anything about it!" Sony has debuted the first official trailer for a crime drama titled November Criminals, from the director of Anvil: The Story of Anvil and Hitchcock previously. Adapted from Sam Munson's novel of the same name, the story is about a high schooler who takes on his own investigation of a murder in Washington D.C. The film stars Ansel Elgort and Chloe Grace Moretz, along with Catherine Keener, David Strathairn, Cory Hardrict, Terry Kinney, Danny Flaherty, Victor Williams, and Tessa Albertson. Maybe it is just because I'm seeing Ansel Elgort once again, but this reminds me of so many other films recently, including Paper Towns and Netflix's "13 Reasons Why". Here's to hoping it's good, but I'm not entirely sure just yet. Here's the first official trailer for Sacha Gervasi's November Criminals,...

We Are X is the best documentary about a band you've probably never heard of but might be your new favourite. Seriously though, Stephen Kijak's documentary falls somewhere between Anvil: The Story of Anvil and This Is Spinal Tap.
Japan in the 1980s was exactly as you image it: buttoned down, proper and soft spoken. And then in 1982 a musical prodigy by the name of Yoshiki along with his best friend Toshi, started a metal band. But the band's masterminds were never satisfied with just one sound and over the years they have experimented leading to even more fandom and critical acclaim but also to trouble from within.

My look at 2014 continues as I review the best documentaries of 2014. Documentaries can serve a multitude of purposes. You will have your change the world docs that pick a certain cause and attempt to spread the word so people will rise up and do something. You have those that are just about a particular story that is just too incredible to believe. You also have those experimental docs that are all about playing with the perimeters with film and experience. My list covers those categories and much more. It shows documentaries can really be used to do just about anything.

It is that time again as 2014 is already half over. Wow, time flies when you are watching movies. The year being half over brings my annual, “Top 10 Movies of the Year…So Far” list, and without question this is my strongest list by a long shot. One big reason is the increase of great titles that have been released On Demand. Half of my list in fact is made up of films I saw On Demand. Now I am all for supporting your local Art House Theater as much as possible, but certain films don’t make it outside of La and New York so On Demand is a great tool to experience some great Independent movies. I feel like geek culture is far too obsessed with franchises that stick to the same format over and over again. I enjoy franchise movies as well, as you will see on this list,...

Finding Vivian Maier
Not Rated, 1 Hr., 23 Mins.
More connect-the-dots detective thriller than traditional doc, John Maloof and Charlie Siskel’s revelatory riddle of a film unmasks a brilliant photographer who hid in plain sight for decades working as an eccentric French nanny. Her name was Vivian Maier, and judging from her haunting, humorous, and long-unseen street portraits, she was like Mary Poppins living a double life as Diane Arbus.
