The streamer is part of Balaji Telefilms, which was started by her and her parents Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in 1994 and is the single largest television content producer in South Asia.

Recently, the hitherto SVOD-only ALTBalaji added an AVOD offering, which caters to 10 million monthly active users. Overall, the platform has 35 million subscribers with 2.9 subscriptions sold in the first quarter of 2022 alone. From launch, the streamer’s goal was to tap into the smaller towns and cities, beyond the metropolitan urban agglomerations. It has been so successful that its larger rivals are emulating it.

There are 91 originals streaming, with several more in the pipeline. The SVOD plans are eminently affordable, costing $4 for 12 months, $2.60 for six months or $1.30 for two months.

The actress agrees that a lot of things are forbidden in India and that there are a lot of things the country feels uncomfortable about.

Over the years, Hindi film industry has seen several films and show that have focussed on same-sex love, such as "My Brother... Nikhil", "Dostana", "Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan", "Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga", "Made In Heaven" and "Four More Shots Please!". In "The Married Woman", Ridhi and Monica Dogra play a lesbian couple.

"A lot of things are taboo in our country. There are a lot of things that have happened but they are taboo. I think that is just the climate -- that is how we are as people.

New Delhi, Feb 26 (Ians) Actress Ridhi Dogra was waiting for a big project to come her way, and she says her wish has come true with the upcoming web show, The Married Woman, which casts her in the title role.

"The biggest reason I said yes to the project was because I was eagerly waiting for an opportunity to showcase that I can carry a big project on my shoulders," Ridhi told Ians.

"When I heard it is called 'The Married Woman' and I would be playing the married woman I did not look left or right. I didn't think twice. I have been waiting as an actor to just be able to show what I can do," she added.

The Married Woman is based on author Manju Kapur's bestseller novel of the same name, and also features Monica Dogra, Imaad Shah, Divya Seth Shah, Nadira Babbar and Suhas Ahuja.
