The budding feature film arm of leading Israeli media and entertainment company Dori Media Paran (Dmp) unveils rough cut material from Amikam Kovner and Assaf Snir’s infidelity drama Echoes at the Jerusalem Pitch Point works-in-progress showcase today (July 17), part of this year’s Jerusalem Film Festival.
It is one of the first auteur productions to come out of the Israeli media company’s move into feature film production, which began some four years ago.
Co-starring Yoram Toledano and Yael Abecassis, it revolves around a husband who uncovers another side to his wife and family when he listens in on her conversations with her lover. When she dies in an accident, he becomes obsessed with uncovering the identity of the other man.
Keren Michael, who heads up Dmp’s feature film division, will present the project alongside Dmp CEO Yoni Paran.

Buyers expressed optimism over a handful of titles amid London security concerns.
Despite at least one distributor cancelling their trip to the 13th edition of The Film London London Screenings (19-22 June) due to the recent UK terror attacks, organisers and buyers expressed optimism about this year’s lineup.
In the sweltering heat of one of the hottest months of June in recent memory, distributors watched films represented by British sales agents in the air-conditioned sanctuary of the BFI Southbank.
Around 150 delegates (roughly 125 international buyers and a number of UK distributors, festival directors and programmers) attended the event, which showcases completed films and works in progress.
Alongside the usual smattering of European buyers, there were several Us distributors in attendance, among then Magnolia, The Weinstein Company, AMC, Film Movement and Screen Media. Buyers also came from as far afield as Taiwan and Brazil.

Update: The full list of theaters is now at the bottom of this post. Seven minutes of footage will be revealed in the extended look at the World War II drama. As if finally seeing the first Star Wars spin-off movie wasn't enough, now we're hearing that a highly anticipated blockbuster will be rolling out an extended preview at select screenings of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk promises to be a tense cinematic experience and select audiences at IMAX locations nationwide will soon be treated to a first look. All we've seen of the movie so far is a 66-second teaser a few months ago. Dunkirk is said to be a very personal movie for the British filmmaker. It's based on the real-life story of soldiers who were surrounded by German...

As was the case with both “The Dark Knight” and “The Dark Knight Rises,” a few minutes of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming “Dunkirk” will be shown well in advance of its official release at select IMAX theaters across the country and abroad. Moviegoers seeing “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” this weekend will be treated to the World War II drama’s prologue and, as noted by the fine folks at the Film Stage, IMAX has released a list of locations showing the new footage. Find it below.

The film, Nolan’s follow-up to “Interstellar,” stars Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, Cillian Murphy and Harry Styles as British soldiers involved in the 1940 Dunkirk evacuation. It was partially shot on IMAX 65mm by Hoyte van Hoytema (who also lensed “Interstellar”), hence the IMAX connection. After this five-minute prologue,...

Now that he’s delved into the realms of superheroes and sci-fi, Christopher Nolan has turned his attention, like so many ambitious directors before him, to World War II. The “Dark Knight,” “Inception” and “Interstellar” director’s latest was shot on location in France on IMAX 65mm and, as evidenced by its first trailer, looks visually arresting. Watch the trailer below.

Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, James D’Arcy and Harry Styles star in the film, which Nolan wrote on his lonesome — a break from his recent tradition of co-writing projects with his brother Jonathan. Hoyte van Hoytema, who also shot “Interstellar,” was the director of photography.

A new poster has dropped for “Dunkirk,” director Christopher Nolan‘s follow up to “Interstellar” and one of the most anticipated movies of 2017. The poster, via the Filmstage, shows a solider from behind, looking on at a beach spewing the flames of war.
Filming began in Dunkirk, France for the World War II drama this spring, and a new trailer is expected soon. Earlier images of the production hinted at the gritty and authentic look of the film, which Nolan also wrote. Here’s what Warner Bros. had to say about the production in a previous press release:
“Dunkirk” opens as hundreds of thousands of British and Allied troops are surrounded by enemy forces. Trapped on the beach with their backs to the sea they face an impossible situation as the enemy closes in.

It’s been a VFX season dominated by giants in a range of superhero, sci-fi and action-adventures. They include Mark Rylance’s 25-foot dream catcher in “The Bfg,” Christopher Walken’s King Louie in “The Jungle Book,” the heptapods from “Arrival,” the 7-foot K-2So droid from “Rogue One” and the Moon Beast and Skeleton from “Kubo and the Two Strings.”
Whittling down the preliminary list of 20 contenders to 10 for the VFX bake-off on January 7th won’t be easy. There is so much outstanding work. Yet the great hybrid achievement of Disney’s “The Jungle Book” makes it the favorite, and “Rogue One” offers a new, gritty “Star Wars” look that should provide serious consideration. Here’s a list of 10 prime contenders:
1. “The Jungle Book”

Scream Queens delivers a cruel and ultimately disappointing season 1 finale, but that doesn't take away from its highlights...
This review contains spoilers.
1.12 Dorkus & The Final Girl(s)
It's hard to come to terms with how disappointing and infuriating Scream Queens' ending is. There are different ways a finale can let down its viewers and fans but Dorkus/The Final Girl(s) almost breaks new ground in this sense. I'd go so far as to say that Scream Queens has put Lost to shame. It doesn't so much fail to stick the landing but miss the landing entirely and break every bone in its body.
Back in July, Ryan Murphy said, "... at the end of the first season there will only be four characters out of twenty-five left" and yet ten remain. The thirteen-episode run has always seemingly been building up to a bloodbath, with Murphy effectively...

We're just one week away from finding out the identity of Scream Queens' Red Devil. Who's your best bet?
This review contains spoilers.
1.11 Black Friday
Scream Queens was never going to let the first death of a major character get in the road of something like shopping, particularly when it's Black Friday. The toxic consumerist nightmare is perfect fodder for a show like Scream Queens, which, as last week's Thanksgiving special proved, is softening. Black Friday, despite being the title, took up only a small portion of the show's penultimate instalment, providing the weekly slice of action and guaranteed death. Black Friday was an episode ultimately concerned with decompressing before the finale and, really, some calm before the storm felt like the right thing.
Unlike previous episodes, which merrily trod water, Black Friday tried to deliver some solid development and teasing in the B-plot alongside the fluffy main action.

After a mid-season slump, the last couple of episodes show Scream Queens right back on gory, entertaining form...
This review contains spoilers.
1.10 Thanksgiving
Much to my delight, Thanksgiving showed that Scream Queens was capable of maintaining the high quality of last week's sterling episode. The show had something of a wobble halfway through its first season but seemed to make up for it with Seven Minutes In Hell and Ghost Stories. This week, like a lot of Us TV, Scream Queens celebrated Thanksgiving, delivering another terrific episode.
What's instantly noticeable about Thanksgiving, and perhaps it's because of the holiday it centres around, is that it sees the show retracting its claws. Brad Falchuk's script was all about family and being with your loved ones, and so Thanksgiving took a bit of a slower, left-field approach, building up to a thrilling conclusion. It was an episode that...

Scream Queens returns to form in its latest episode, Ghost Stories, written by showrunner Ryan Murphy...
This review contains spoilers.
1.9 Ghost Stories
Warts and all, Scream Queens is a show you can't help but fall in love with. It's bold, irreverent, funny and entertaining, but storytelling has been its downfall. The most recent instalments - Beware Of Young Girls and Mommie Dearest - were the weakest we've had yet and there was a genuine fear that those episodes could sound the death knell for a show that started so brilliantly. But this week's visit to Kappa Kappa Tau, Ghost Stories, is up there with Seven Minutes In Hell - and an absolute treat.
More character development, an advance in the Red Devil mystery, a tighter focus, a more inclusive cast and a perfect comedy-horror balance was on my wishlist for Ghost Stories after the duds in previous weeks.

The Leftovers, Season 2, Episode 7, “A Most Powerful Adversary”
Written by Damon Linedlof and Patrick Somerville
Directed by Mimi Leder
Airs Sundays at 9pm (Et) on HBO
For possibly the first time in The Leftovers‘ run, “A Most Powerful Adversary” does something you’d think it would do a whole lot more often: it conjures up the spirit of Lost. With its unusually hurried pacing, characters teetering on the edge of (in)sanity, massive reams of new backstory, faith vs. reason debates, and a spectacularly cruel cliffhanger, it’s almost as though we’re getting a glimpse of what a more conventionally “entertaining” version of The Leftovers might look like. That’s speaking purely on a formal level, though, because the devil’s in the details, and the details of “A Most Powerful Adversary” are as dumbfounding as we’ve come to expect by now.

A review of tonight's "The Leftovers" coming up just as soon as I go outside to curse... "There is no Patti, Kevin. There is only you." -Laurie Ohmigod, they killed Kevin! But probably not. If not for Michael Murphy appearing in the episode's closing minutes to drag Kevin away — a few scenes after he was left in tears by a conversation with Virgil that in hindsight clearly involved his grandfather telling him his whole suicidal plan for that evening — I might be more concerned that Kevin had just been poisoned with no epinephrine handy, or perhaps annoyed that "The Leftovers" was teasing us with the apparent death of its main character(*) when it likely plans to do no such thing. An episode that ends with Kevin foaming at the mouth on the floor of Virgil's trailer is a taunt; the episode ending with Michael taking Kevin away is a tease,...

After a zany, fun start, Scream Queens appears to be in a bit of a slump. Can it regain its former fizz before the season one finale?
This review contains spoilers.
1.8 Mommy Dearest
As you can surmise from the title, this week's Scream Queens, Mommie Dearest, dealt with mommy issues - or for Limeys, mummy issues. Simply throwing in parental problems can be a cheap and unconvincing way to earn sympathy from the audience but, fortunately, Scream Queens is clever enough not to do that. But that's not to say Mommie Dearest didn't have other issues.
We kicked off with the reappearance of the Red Devil - two of them, in fact - confined to the wings last week. Grace's portent that Dean Munsch's blasé attitude would come back to bite her was quickly followed up when the Wallace University head was attacked in the shower.

After last episode's uptick in quality, Scream Queens serves up a disappointingly middling episode in Beware Of Young Girls...
This review contains spoilers.
1.7 Beware Of Young Girls
Last time on Scream Queens, we finished with an upbeat dance number that you could say reflected the audience's mood. At last, the show seemed to have found its feet, having spent weeks ploughing its own unique furrow. It had also more or less shed its flabbier elements and there was consistent characterisation, too, which is excellent in a show so hell-bent on laughing at itself. As for this week? Well, you can see where this is going.
Beware Of Young Girls, again written by Ryan Murphy, was an episode with more than a few problems. The biggest culprit is the script, which focused on all the wrong people and places, and we ended up with an episode that was...

?Seven Minutes in Hell? was a big episode for Scream Queens. It?s true that there was very little revealed about the central mysteries of the Red Devil Killer and the bath tub baby but there was still a lot to digest. Whether it was the signature meaty dialogue of Scream Queens, character revelations or deaths, a lot happened in ?Seven Minutes in Hell?. For a more in depth look at that, check out our recap. There's no other show on TV quite like it. Scream Queens delivers its deadliest, dance-iest episode yet...
This review contains spoilers.
1.6 Seven Minutes In Hell
Scream Queens chose the perfect time to unleash its "deadliest episode yet". After a few weeks of fun yet toothless drama, the show's last episode before its mid-season break (don't worry - we'll be back in a couple of weeks) was an ideal opportunity to off a couple more characters and raise the stakes for the countdown to the finale and - one hopes - answers. It's almost like the booming voiceover man saw us starting to check our watches last week.
Seven Minutes In Hell was the closest Scream Queens has come to a genuine slasher film, albeit with certain aspects truncated to accommodate the small screen format. There was still plenty of satire, mind, and plenty of laughs, too, but...

Scream Queens, Season 1, Episode 6, “Seven Minutes in Hell”
Written by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan
Directed by Michael Uppendahl
Airs Tuesdays at 9pm (Et) on Fox
During the episodes where Scream Queens is more mediocre than edgy or shocking, as many episodes have proven to be, the watchability comes down to the characterizations of each Greek member and the actors’ performances. In “Seven Minutes in Hell”, neither of these raises the stakes enough for the episode to feel like much of a worthwhile installment. Much of the horror is repetitive after six weeks of violent terror at the hands of The Red Devil(s) and once again, the victim or victims have no consequence in the grand scheme of things. The episode reestablishes that most of the Kappas are incompetent, some are too petty to pay attention to their own safety, and the rest are not even...

"This is so wonderfully random!" Our thoughts exactly regarding tonight's delightfully insane Scream Queens, "Seven Minutes in Hell," in which a guy with no arms died trying to climb a ladder (why not?) and some of our favorite Kappas were thrust into the spotlight as the most likely candidates to be The Killer. Basically, tonight featured both the best and worst slumber party we've ever seen. It looked like a lot of fun thanks to both kissing and dance parties, but it was also sort of terrifying, what with the locked doors and windows and the killer on the loose and all. It was, however, a pretty revealing night, in more ways than one. So who's the #1 most suspicious?...

In this episode of Scream Queens, "Seven Minutes in Hell," the election causes a shake-up in the house, Zayday and Grace organize a slumber party in the hopes of catching the killer and the Red Devil strikes again.
The Kappas cast their votes and it's a tie. This sets Chanel off into a rage where she spews her unique brand of venom at all of her "sisters." But, once again, Chanel #5 is her primary target. She stomps off to the sanctity of her closet. Despite receiving her umpteenth tongue lashing, Chanel #5 and the always loyal Chanel #3 chase after her.

Purveyors of Eurotrash should delight in the resuscitation of the obscure 1979 eroto-giallo Play Motel, directed by Mario Gariazzo under the pseudonym Roy Garrett (a director of twenty or so features best remembered for casting into a sea of Friedkin capitalizations with 1974’s The Sexorcist, aka L’Ossessa aka Enter the Devil). By this period, the provocative Italian subgenre was already well into its dog days, with imitators churning out murder mysteries imbibed with a healthy dose of pornographic soft-core elements. It would be unfair to rightly classify Gariazzo’s film as classic giallo, a muddled narrative cramped significantly by enough naked women to rival Jesus Franco.
The sleazy Play Motel is a den of infamous iniquity, and wealthy businessman Rinaldo Cortesi (Enzio Fisichella) hires the voluptuous Loredana (Marina Frajese) for a kinky round of S&M. The next day, explicit pictures are sent to his office via registered mail in...

Oliver Hirschbiegel delivers a confident account of the life of Georg Elser, who made a failed attempt to bomb Adolf Hitler in 1939
Oliver Hirschbiegel is the director who made Downfall (2004), the grippingly claustrophobic account of Hitler’s final days in the bunker – but also the notoriously clunking biopic Diana (2013), starring Naomi Watts. This film puts Hirschbiegel back on surer ground: a workmanlike true-life study of Georg Elser, the carpenter who made a failed attempt on the life of Hitler in Munich in 1939; his bomb went off too late and Elser was captured and finally executed in Dachau in 1945. (He is also the subject of a 1989 movie entitled Seven Minutes, directed by its star, Klaus Maria Brandauer.)

Brett Morgen has been called the Mad Scientist of the documentary world with his latest film, the long-awaited Kurt Cobain biography “Montage of Heck.” Morgen certainly lives up to that billing, creating an explosive and totally unique visual and cinematic experiences out of the fallen rock god’s various creations. I have known Brett since we were both 14 years old, having gone to high school and then college together, where we were in roommates. Since the first days of our acquaintance, I have never known anyone with such a firm sense of who he was and what he wanted to do, and that has only strengthened over the years. However, what astonished me seeing “Montage” for the first time was how much his creative skills have grown as a director, so that wild, unstoppable sense of Brettism is now married to awe-inspiring technical superpowers, that have enabled him to produce what in my very-biased mind,...

Grossing just under forty million domestically and scoring two Academy Award nominations (for its actresses Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern), Wild arrives on Blu-ray on it’s cushion of critical acclaim. French-Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallee’s follow-up to the 2013 The Dallas Buyers Club is less problematic in its examination of a notable real life personality, but follows his verve to chart descent and ascent as juxtaposition on a linear, clearly defined timeline. Though Witherspoon’s sometimes showy performance tends to feel a bit too glossy, even if just for its ability to seem like predictable awards consideration fodder, the film succeeds in surprising ways both in how it tries to address the realities of sexual addiction to mask emotional pain and as an excellent showcase for the too often underrated Dern.
Arriving at the end of star Witherspoon’s auteur binge is one of her most rewarding turns in years.

Sony Pictures Classics acquired North and Latin American distribution rights to Oliver Hirschbiegel’s Nazi-era drama 13 Minutes early on at the Berlin Film Festival. The story of Georg Elser, who tried to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1939, has its official screening out of competition today and was met with high praise from the press corps this morning. This is a return to familiar territory for the Oscar-nominated Downfall director after 2013’s savaged English-language biopic Diana.
A compelling portrait of the resistance fighter, 13 Minutes is not the first time Elser’s story has come to the screen, but is a rarity. Klaus Maria Brandauer starred in and directed Seven Minutes in 1989 which focused more on the building of Elser’s poorly-timed bomb. The failed deed was put in motion during a speech given by Hitler for the anniversary of the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. The bomb Elser had placed behind the lectern detonated...

The past year has been a great one as concerns the availability and restoration of several titles from Italian auteur Liliana Cavani, a director who came to fame and notoriety alongside peers such as Pasolini, Bellocchio, and Bertolucci. Her work has often faced difficulty in achieving the same sort of international acclaim as those male colleagues, each of them certified as a particular brand within the cinematic canon. And yet, Cavani is as equally provocative and prolific, with boundary pushing titles languishing in obscurity, usually historical reconstructions with gender or sexuality as a unique entry. Her work has often been described as having a feminist bent, but Cavani isn’t aspiring to create female agency in spaces dominated by masculinity. Rather, her concern resides in honest depictions of women ravaged by male dominated systems. Cavani’s most notorious title, 1974’s The Night Porter, received a Blu-ray transfer from Criterion recently,...

It’s a confusing time to be a cinephile. Some mournfully toll the death knell of the medium, with the near-total cessation of celluloid projection a symbolic end-point. Others insist that the prospects for audio-visual expression have never been brighter. They point to a vast array of new platforms and settings: whether in gallery-based video installations, high-end television series, or global video-sharing websites such as YouTube. But what of the once-cherished act of seeing a feature film with an audience in a theater? Many think it will go the way of opera. Yet alongside the digital enormities of the multiplex, formally and thematically challenging work continues to be made and shown on the festival circuit and elsewhere. Spectators may be overwhelmed by the all-access buffet of content now open to them, but they also have unrivaled opportunities to immerse themselves in the 119-year history of the medium.

Paul (Harry Treadaway) and Bea (Rose Leslie) are young lovers, newly married, and heading to her family’s cabin for a secluded honeymoon. She gives him the grand tour, they get to canoodling, and then the pair bed down for their first night as husband and wife. It’s not long though before Paul starts noticing things are a bit off with Bea on this trip. She forgets how to make breakfast and coffee, he discovers some weird marks on her legs, and he catches her reciting facts about herself as if to memorize them. The more he struggles to discover what’s going on the deeper she falls into this behavioral madness. It seems one of them may be reaching the end of their vows a lot sooner than expected. Honeymoon is somewhat of an economically-crafted thriller with its two leads, constrained setting, and bare minimum supporting cast, and all of that helps increase tension in...

Ross Barkley’s fine free kick ensured Everton would sit in the top five of the Premier League at Christmas as they won at Swansea. A Bryan Oviedo own goal had earlier cancelled out a sensational strike from Seamus Coleman – all in the second half.
Similar styles and systems meant this match was decidedly tactical from the outset. That naturally diminished the amount of goalmouth action. Gerhard Tremmel in the Swans goal saved routinely from Kevin Mirallas, but that chance apart defences were on top.
Barkley fell over at the crucial moment when in behind the home side after a goalless first half. Seamus Coleman then went on a tear, but last-ditch defending denied Everton again. Swansea pair Chico Flores and Ashley Williams earlier put in several blocks.

So we did cancel all our plans. We gathered round with wide eyes and hopes and fears and Tardis pyjamas and Jaffa cakes. (Not me, the children. I'm doing a sugar detox.) And we weren't disappointed. Although we did get very confused.
There had been arguments about the fact that we had no plans to see The Day of the Doctor in one of the 3-D selected cinemas across the UK.

One of the many reasons I love my wife ... she is a fantastic cook! Yesterday, she made me my two of my favorite snacks - and a delicious lunch. I thought it would only be fair if I shared the recipes with you. They all take no more than five minutes of prep time, and with the exception of the baked apple, require little to no cooking time. Plus: Each snack is under 150 calories. (The tuna melts, designed to be a single serving for lunch, only have 343 calories.) And all are loaded with protein and fiber, which helps you feel fuller longer.

MTV Europe just released its list of the 15 best butts in Hollywood. Whether you agree with the selections - or the fact that this list actually exists - is up to you. Regardless, it has definitely stirred up many opinions. From Nicki Minaj to Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez to Jessica Biel, the star backsides take many different shapes and sizes. Not surprisingly, this is the area my clients tend to focus on most. It’s one part you really can't fake. Sure, you can wear those ridiculous padded underwear, but the truth is you're probably not fooling anyone but yourself - especially in a bikini.

It’s a shame that finale was so uneventful, huh? Seriously, the first seven minutes were so action-packed, I actually laughed when the Nashville opening credits popped up on the screen. They could’ve ended the show right there, right when Maddie showed up at Deacon’s doorstep saying, “I think that you might be my father” and I would’ve said, “Now That was a satisfying finale.” But we were just seven minutes in, people. Seven minutes in. (Oh, before we go any further, can I rectify an omission from last week’s recap? How did I not mention that the last thing Dante heard before getting shot was, “Give me the Sd card.” Literally, the least gangster way someone can be taken out. But I digress.)“I guess he turned out to be a pretty lousy sober companion,” the cop says to Juliette about Dante, practically nudging her in the ribs.

Before we tackle this week's exercise in believability-stretching, can anyone tell me why the "Previously, on The Following..." bit at the beginning of the show is always Exactly the same? Can you imagine if The Walking Dead started every single episode with a square-one reminder that there was a zombie plague that took over the earth? The only other show I can think of that does this at the beginning of every episode is Arrow, which seems to delight in reminding us that once upon a time Stephen Amell was stuck on an island with nothing but a very bad wig to keep him alive. At this point, if you don't know that Joe Carroll killed some chicks and escaped from jail, you should probably be watching something else.
