19th century period reenactors were used as extras and consulted on much of the wardrobe to make sure it was accurate for 1865 era
Much of the film was shot in February and March. During these months Tennessee and Kentucky get a lot of freezing rain and light snow. February had cast a crew strained with below freezing temperatures, excessive mud, rain delays and keeping heaters running for remote locations. The cold even affected the weapons masters who had trouble keeping gun loading components from freezing.
Potter's Ground was filmed in both Tennessee and Kentucky.
