Producer Antonio P. Tuviera said he initially wanted to have the project as a TV series in 1997. But due to high production cost, he moved to have this as a full-length movie a decade later.
There had been dispute on the claims of this movie as the first Filipino full-length animated film, because the record-holder for such is Adarna: The Mythical Bird (1997) in 1997.
