The film was written and directed by Frank Sabatella (Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet) and produced by Frank Mosca of Harrington Talents.
A classic haunted house tale with a mix of scares and blood, the short follows four young adults who venture into the supposedly-cursed house of “Old Lady Death” in search of her rotting corpse. What seems like regular Halloween tomfoolery turns into a night of terror they may never survive, and what awaits them within the walls of this dilapidated home is an evil birthed from their worst nightmares.

The term “Scream Queen” might immediately bring to mind Jamie Lee Curtis, the star of Halloween, Terror Train and Prom Night, but a new Scream Queen is emerging to take the lead, and we can, once again, thank the Halloween series for bringing her to our attention.
Star of Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, Danielle Harris has exploded onto the horror scene, releasing several films a year for our viewing pleasure. In honor of her new release, The Victim; the upcoming The Ghost of Goodnight Lane; and her directorial debut, Among Friends, Dread Central is honoring our Scream Queen with a list of six of her best horror roles.
1. Annie Brackett in Rob Zombie’s Halloween and Halloween 2

If the candy and the costumes and the fact that it's the only time of the year you can scatter bones in your front yard without having the neighbors alert the authorities aren't enough for you to look forward to Halloween, here's a new reason: Sideshow Pictures is promising to deliver a great short film each year, just in time for the holiday ... and the first one, Night of the Pumpkin, is ready to launch.

A group of high school friends celebrating Blood Night, the anniversary of the death of a local axe murderer endearingly know as Mary Hatchet, get more than they bargained for when, after attempting to conjure her spirit with a Ouija board, they begin to meet their brutal and blood soaked deaths. Is it really Mary Hatchet's spirit or something far more unexpected and sinister?
If glowing, exemplary reviews could be awarded simply for good intentions, then Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet deserves them in droves because it is obvious that the individuals involved with the making of the film had a passion for what they were doing and were attempting to make more than a dull slasher film. But as the old cliche goes, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions,...

I have to admit, I'm a sucker for any movie that makes me feel like I'm watching a good old 80's slasher flick. Group of teens celebrating the anniversary of a group of brutal murders by an insane woman find themselves being picked off one by one after messing with a witch board and contacting her spirit.
Old school slasher isn't particularly scary or suspenseful as the film focuses more on over the top gore. It does have some atmospheric moments when the film focuses on the urban legend aspects of the story. It does have some visuals that pop. It does offer up scream queen Danielle Harris a nice change of pace from the normal. It's most successful in terms of how lively, energetic and stylish the overall execution is, which makes it pretty easy to digest. However, Blood Night leaves viewers wanting something more. Filmmakers on the low-budget end of the horror genre have to employ certain tricks to create a visually intense final product that can rival those with more funding. Sometimes they get very creative to squeeze value from every last penny, which leads to innovation; but sometimes they resort to methods that make the film all but unwatchable and turn off the audience that took the chance on their film. Writer and Director Frank Sabatella should consider himself lucky if any audience is willing to watch his work ever again after the travesty that is Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, a film devoid of clever twists and filled with horrible acting, clichéd writing, and some of the worst visuals to come out of the horror genre in recent memory.

Finally! A B-movie slasher that knows what it is and knows what works. Add the brilliant casting of modern horror legends Bill Moseley and Danielle Harris and Blood Night has all the ingredients to make a quality, riotous, blood-soaked gore-fest that I personally have been hungry for in recent years. I was wondering when someone else besides Adam Green (Hatchet I&II) was going to get it right.
Newcomer Writer/Director Frank Sabatella did not let these ingredients go to waste. This young director, in his first feature film, shows great promise and is sure to be a welcome addition to the genre. Sabatella has crafted an entertaining throwback to splatter films of old while not feeling too derivative. Sure we've seen a lot of films like this, but only a choice few give you this much of what you want out of a B-movie while...

Blood Night Blood Night takes elements of all those spooky old ghost stories, behind all those tall tales that you heard and all those outlandish urban legends and mixes into a narrative involving lots and lots and well.... lots of blood and gore, an appealing cast of young kids and a slasher story that helps to make Blood Night one darn entertaining flick. Frank Sabatella is the director behind it all in Blood Night. And the film features two horror film icons in the cast - Danielle Harris (Hatchet II) and Bill Moseley (Babysitter Wanted). Blood Night is an atmospheric, old school styled blend of ghost story and slasher. It's fun, lively and engertic; a film that you should check out. Here's what Frank Sabatella had to say about the making of Blood Night.
Frank Sabatella So who is Frank Sabatella and what are you all about?

What a better way to celebrate "Women in Horror Month" than a tribute to our favorite scream queen! According to Wikipedia a scream queen is an actress who has become associated with horror films, either through an appearance in a notable entry as a frequent victim or through constant appearances as the protagonist. Who could wear the heavy crown of such a broad definition? To be the Queen her majesty must embrace all expectations. Well, we think we’ve found her and after a life time career of horror, All Hail Danielle Harris!
The scream queen. Well, we all know she has to at least have a set of lungs on her but what else? Multiple rolls in horror films is a must and a little skin, nudity or sex is a plus. Oh, and she’s got to be drop dead gorgeous to boot! She can fall victim to...

Okay, so this week we have covered the "Top Five Indie Horror Films," with an article found here: Best Indie Horror Films of 2010. Also covered was the "Top Five International Horror Films." An article on this posting is here: Top Five International Films. But, now we are exploring a more depraved side of horror, or a lower class of film. This top five list will cover the "Worst Five Horror Films of 2010!"
This year, there was so much to choose from in poor horror films. Abroad, we have the dismal Basement starring Danny Dyer and Jimi Mistry to the absolutely monstrosity of a film from Australia called Outback aka Prey starring the incapable Natalie Bassingthwaighte. Domestically, films like the Zombie Chronicles: The Infected made this reviewer want to scratch his eyes out, while others like Apocalypse of the Dead aka Zone of the Dead made one reach for the off button with lightening like reflexes.

Here is a breakdown of the latest horror films that have gone through the MPAA in the past three weeks. Surprisingly the list is devoid of any PG-13 films. All of it is comprised of R rated features. Most surprising, though, is that Mega Shark vs. Crocosaurus got an R rating for some language. Go figure?!?
Scream Of The Banshee from After Dark Films is Rated R for bloody horror violence and brief sexual content.
Bread Crumbs is Rated R For horror violence, sexual content, nudity and language
Zombie Women Of Satan which is to be released by Screen Media Films in March on DVD is rated R for bloody horror violence, strong sexuality, nudity, pervasive language and some drug use.

On October 2nd the third annual GoreZone International Film Festival got under way at Leicester Square’s Prince Charles Cinema; and for the first time ever, Dread was on the scene to check it out. Our report follows along with condensed reviews of six of the films shown over the weekend.
Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet, Breath of Hate, Hyenas, Cyrus: Mind of a Serial Killer, New Terminal Hotel, Darfur, and Devil's Playground are all included, but first a recap of the event and awards show.
In the face of fellow Leicester Square-based festival and horror heavy hitter, Film4 Frightfest, GoreZone (or Gz, as the magazine has rebranded) would appear to be the underdog. Having experienced the festival first-hand, however, it’s pleasing to discover a level of intimacy and audience connection that is easily lost amongst the hustle and bustle of many larger profile fests, bolstered by...

Have you ever seen a movie about pre-menstrual dysmorphic disorder? If you said no then this review will hopefully keep you on that lucky streak. Pmdd, for short, is a new mental illness, which will be in the Dsm V, that involves severe mood swings and depression. Mary Hatchet from Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet suffers from Pmdd and guess who gets to deal with her disorder. Yes, some high schoolers just out to have a good time on Blood Night. Not only is the plot missing from Blood Night, but the lighting, acting, and conclusion each leave something to be desired. Suspiria sums up Blood Night from Horror-movies.ca succinctly with "I had very high hopes for Blood Night but I must say I'm kind of disappointed (Horror-movies)."

Blood Night: The Legend of Mary Hatchet will have an online release through the website of the film beginning Novemenber 22, 2009. A film that is very graphic and living up to the name, the first twelve minutes of Blood Night can be seen here. But be forewarned the footage is mature in nature, very graphic, and not suitable for younger viewers, seriously (scenes of rape and murder)! As well, Blood Night has been available on DVD since October 30, 2009. Check out the twelve minute unedited footage for Blood Night below. Again, the reel is for those eighteen and above.
