Arte left her well-to-do home prior to the arranged wedding but after the arranged proposal. She doesn't want to be someone's dutiful wife. She wants to be an artist. Arte takes place in 15th century Florence, at the birth of the Renaissance. Viewers get to know that amazing time and some of the amazing artists that it produced - that's the whole point.
I watched Arte as I was falling in love with anime. All I can say is that it left me rather underwhelmed. It's certainly not the worst, but unless you have a niche interest in the topics it covers, I hardly think it's worth the viewing time, which is close to 3 hours. It's not a life-changing decision either way. There's just so much better programming out there.
I won't even say that Arte is a good role-model. It's a mixed-medium. She's hard-working and earnest, but she's actually doing things that will give her lifetime injuries. Hopefully, you can relay that to your kids: Work hard but don't hurt yourself. Sometimes, balance is the hardest thing.
It appears that Michelangelo is a lady's man in this feature. That's a bit of a stretch. The theme is oppression of females and their rights to be painters, and the theme is applicable to other professions, other periods, and other places. Good theme. Average execution.
