While the original script called for a capuchin monkey, director H. Craig Bass wanted to use a lemur as it was less stereotypical. However, the lemur cast in the role went into heat shortly before production, necessitating the use of Lucian the capuchin monkey. In reality, the capuchin monkey is a much more common lab animal than the lemur.
