"Pathu Thala" is a Tamil action thriller film released in 2023, which is an adaptation of the Kannada film "Mufti". The cast of the film includes STR, Gautham Karthik, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Gautham Vasudev Menon, and Santhosh Prathap. The title "Pathu Thala" translates to "ten heads" in reference to Ravana, a character from Hindu mythology.
The film is impressive, with a notable performance by STR on screen. The background music (BGM) by A. R. Rahman brings the film to life. Gautham Karthik's acting is also incredible. The climax fight scene is particularly immersive and deserves to be seen in theaters. The songs and music videos are also of high quality, with a special mention for the song "Nee Singam Dhan", where STR is particularly remarkable.
However, the film also has some weaknesses, particularly at the beginning with some dull scenes and some special effects that could be improved.
In conclusion, "Pathu Thala" is a film that deserves to be watched in theaters, with an impressive performance by STR and excellent music. I give this film a rating of 8.5/10.

Definitely one of the best political crime dramas we've ever witnessed!!
A bit of prolonged narrative, yet the screenplay assembles every string right into one place and delivers satisfiable amount of exciting & entertaining sequences throughout the runtime, And the entire setup for the main plot is wonderfully done... STR's character establishment and buildups by other actors throughout the first half stimulates the thrilling factor for audience!!
Furthermore, after the enthralling interval block the movie paces up in the second half and proceeds towards the main plot with uplifting conflict point!!
Simbu's Brother-Sister bond worked big time emotionally!!
And character progression among other lead roles is quite fascinating... Every production member that has involved gave their A-level contribution to the climax portion set!!

The first half of the movie was interesting and unique in its own way. Although Simbu did not show his face much in this part, it still had a significant impact.
However, the second half followed the usual clichés of Indian masala movies. Nevertheless, Simbu's decision to not have any particular heroine dance for him made the movie stand out from the typical masala movie fare.
As for the music, the legendary AR Rahman's BGM and tunes were impeccable, as expected from such an accomplished artist.
Gautam Menon has been recently showcasing his skills as a villain on screen, and it is quite fitting to his mannerisms. However, the movie as a whole can be classified as another Kollywood masala blockbuster.

The role performed by STR is something that some elder actor must've done since it has such significance and requires someone at a superstar level to do this role but when STR does it, it just brings down the movie and doesn't add anything to the film at all. STR could be saved only if he comes down from the thinking that he's one of the biggest actors, IMO he's not even among the third-tier list of actors, his movies are talked about just because of his gossip, they run not for content but just for the gossip.
The Gautham Karthik role was an apt one and the overall plot though resembles the Pokiri movie, still works with decent characterisation and the evolution of the scenes as the film runs with a nice screenplay, this film probably would've given a break to the actors but I feel the spotlight was stolen by STR and not given to this actor, probably if the STR role would've been performed by someone like Rajkiran, then would've become a good one, yet it is still a one-time watchable one for sure.

Crazy start of movie but failed to maintain the story in 2nd half,it's lagging ,surprised climax. Cinemotograpjy are good, all actors deserved by their performance.songs (raawadi) are unessential to the movie ,songs are ok but background score of Rahman sir is engaging to the movie. This movie not having a standard villian A perfect tribute to the original version of pathu thala(mufti) . A different kind of the gangster film. Once watchable. Must try well to the 2nd half (story) .it's just moving for character development of A. G. R(s.t.r) they had concentrated to the story development of pathu thala.

"Pathu Thala" A Hattrick Victory for Simbu (STR)
Review by M. Siraj
As we know South Indian film indusdtries have no dearth of movies that depict the enmity between a callous cop and a feared gangster but what really keep this" Pathu Thala" stand out in this style are the events and incidents that unfold, bringing the audience closer to the characters' world and constantly engaging the audience throughout the film.
An undercover cop (Goutham Karthik) goes into the big bad world in Kanyakumari which is run by a feared don STR a powerful gangster who rules the government at the flick of a finger, to investigate the disappearance of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
His world that is filled with blood and carnage ensures he finally gets to meet the don once he proves his worth. As the cop works to gain STR" s trust, he uncovers disgusting revelations that shake his tenacity. STR is facing his life under threat by Police as well as from Gautham Vasudev Menon, a politician who wants power and does conspiracies and his abettors betray him.
As a hattrick victory from Maanadu, Venthu Thaninthathu Kaadu, followed by Pathu Thalai, Simbu as usual adds strength to the film with his performance. From showing anger to enemies, longing to talk to her sister, and fighting scenes, he gives fans the expected treat. Understanding the depth of the story, Simbu has big heart to give enough screen space to Karthik Goutham, despite having a very limited screen time, really shines in a role that he strongly elevates just with his presence, and gripping moments. Even though STR appears just one minute before the interval at a critical point in the narrative and with his swagger and body language, he predominantly occupies the second half where the narrative becomes tighter and more engaging as the soul of the film lies in the post-interval sequences, as the strong pillar of the film, STR delivered a standout performance with ample bloodshed in the film. Obvious reason for STR to turn against government and form his own administration for people is because of his frustration at the functioning of the government. The plot rounds, STR has a fond sister who is not speaking for the stern decision of her brother. In the fake medicine case, he kills his own greedy brother-in-law. That is the reason for his sister to become quiet for a long time. Director cleverly handles the situations and it is close affinity for brother and sister.
The film has the needed mass introductions and fights, as Goutham Karthik shines in a role that he hasn't played before. He gets a massy introduction sequence which is another highlight of the film and he in the first half wins convincingly for his action, with minimum of dialogues for his composed performance, he succeeded well in his comeback. Gautham Karthik's character comes across as stiff and stern throughout the film.
STR and Goutham Karthik makes their roles with an equally stylish, where two stars are pitted against each other as an underworld don and a cop.
Gautham Vasudev Menon's performance as the deputy Chief minister is commendable, but give a feel that, he is not up to the level of a Villain for STR.
The climactic fight sequence is accompanied by an effective background score by AR Rahman, which strikes a chord with the audience and elevates its impact, is another major highlight of the film and admirable to the way it's shot and presented.
Forgetting some minor mistakes, like showing a Goods Train where Goutham Karthik is stealing the money, is running without a Guard Van, but in overall, Pathu Thala is worth watching for STR" exuberant screen presence and acting.

Pathuthala (Tamil) A weakly written drama which lacks powerful gripping screenplay that tests your patience in first half and works better in second half Director Krishna has come out with the script which is official remake of Mufti which works only in bits and pieces but on the whole a tiring watch Simbhu he steals the show with Mass entry and holds the second half single handedly GVM weak villain toloa role and Gautham Karthik neat performance Technically Cinematography is good and AR BGM is average Editing could have been better especially 1st half abrupt cuts Overall if the writing and screenplay was done this could have been better film.

STR'S CHARACTER IS JUST MIND-BLOWING. ONE OF THE BEST GANGSTERS OF ALL-TIME. GAUTHAM KARTHIK'S CHARACTER ARC WAA GREAT. PBS WAS HELLA CUTE. N MA MAN ARR KILLED IT. BGMS AND SONGS...THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK WAS LIT. KRISHNA HAS GIVEN A SOLID COMEBACK WITH A MULTI-STARRER AFTER SILLUNU ORU KAADHAL. HIS CHEMISTRY WITH ARR STILL REAMINS MAGICAL. THE AGR THEME WAS LIT. THE SCREENPLAY WAS RIGHT AND TIGHT WITH TENSE AND SUSPENSEFUL MOMENTS HERE AND THERE. THE CLIMAX FIGHT COULD HAVE BEEN LONGER. DEFINITELY WORTH MORE THAN A ONE TIME WATCH. STR IS GIVING CONTINOUS HITS AND HE'S COMING BACK FASTER AND STRONGER. HATTRICK HIT. WAITING FOR STR48 UNDER RKFI.

Pathu Thala- Rugged gangster movie with a classic take.
Hats off to the director Obeli Krishna who has penned every role with meticulous thinking and weighed them equally.
Content is rich and storytelling is on par, with politics as a background and a surprising foreground with subtle elements.
Gautam Karthik's smooth acting takes the first half with ease and lays the foundation. Silambarasan takes it over in the second half like a lion. His best role till date. He carries his role with sincerity and utmost maturity.
A. R. Rahman's music comes as a breathe of fresh air as he takes us to his magical best with BGM and few heart touching songs.
Don't miss this gem on Prime!

Half baked Political Gangster Drama
Cliched gangster story , somehow they tried to give different treatment to it but failed in writing part . Inconsistent narration , mostly felt flat and lack of intriguing . Dialogues were poorly written and forced punch dialogues were totally odd . There were many characters but none of them were strong enough to shine , even AGR character . Even making was poor , scenes mostly lacked its continuity . Cast wise , Simbhu presence literally carried AGR and the whole movie , except few cast others did good job . Technical wise , cinematography was good , below average editing and poor dubbing . ARR's BGM and songs were mind blowing .
Overall , except for the Simbhu's screen presence and ARR's music movie had nothing much to deliver .

STR's character establishment and buildups by other actors throughout the first half stimulates the thrilling factor for audience!! His on-screen presence is magnetic, and his performance elevates the overall film. The storyline, combined with the captivating visuals, keeps the audience hooked from start to finish.
This film exceeded expectations at so many levels (except for the last 2 mins of how the story ends)- story, plot twists, music (just got goosebumps with the bgm, it was so good), cinematography, casting and each of the actors trying to deliver their best performance.

A movie worth watching. The movie was really good even though there was a little drag in the second half which didn't affect the pace of the movie. Being a cop and gangster combo, the comedy part also did work out really good. Gowtham Menon trying to be a harsh politician was funny at times as the role wasn't as classy as he is and the director just screws up the boss villain in a second. Simbu and Gautham Karthik acting was great, tbh, all the actors were played their characters well. The climax fight with the bg score from ARR is a treat for those who had watched the movie in theatres.
Overall, this movie was a good entertainer.

I feel that the director should focus on film casting until AGR arrives! Obeli Krishna created one of Tamil cinema's best films, STR lived as an AGR! His screen presence and narration are both outstanding! After Goutham Menon, this man only knows how to use STR! These kinds of scripts should be chosen by STR!
Goutham Karthick also provided his best acting effort, however Priya Bhavani's character is unworthy, and I'm not sure why she's there! Overall, this film is a must-see for STR fans!
;(Notable elements are the final fight, the Birthday Song, the STR entry, and Goutham Menon's villainsm)
I'm looking forward to seeing Obeli Krishna's next film!

This movie was a nice attempt at remaking Shivaraj kumar and Murali starrer kannada movie Mufti...but turned out it could not create the impact it made in Kannada..it was a super hit in kannada but in tamil not sure....the protagonist put all his efforts though....but couldn't match the original in kannada which Dr Shivaraj kumar played eloquently...Simbu's previous movie was much better than this , sorry unable to recall the name of his previous movie.... however Simbu put all his effort to carry the movie on his own shoulder....even dubbing and editing were not crisp and felt like there was no continuity.

Gautham Menon could act better and has only one expression throughout the movie. He should stick to direction. STR had too much build up for the movie. Story is not gripping and could have better context. The background music of all is the worst and there is too much of it throughout the movie. It doesn't correlate with the movie at all. There were too many slow motion shots added without any context where the total length of the movie which is 2.5 hours but if reduced the slow motion shots then the movie could be short. A very ambitious project by the director of which he couldn't deliver even 10% of it.

The first part was going a bit fast, The next part of the film was going a slow.
I dint see any lag in the movie, I thought they could have increased the tension at the climax fight scene, the fight scene had a rising tension but suddenly it fell down in AGR's horse entry scene, If they had like AGR fighting with 5 people at the same time it would have been even engaging. But one plus was the drone shot during the fight scene were nice.
The music was very excellent, ARR 👍as always!!!
Acting - Simbu - 9/10 Goutham Karthik - 8/10 Priya Bhavani - 7/ 10
Music - 9/10
Story - 8/10
Screenplay - 8/10.

I have watched it multiple times in Amazon prime . I don't know why there are negative comments for this movie. I generally don't like gangster movies. But this one is exceptional. I get goosebumps everytime I watch simbu and the entire movie.
They have designed Fight sequences in a really different way. And you would not recognise that you have just finished watching a fight scene.
Excellent screenplay and cinematography.
And I can't believe it's AR Rahman behind the BGM . A very different album of ARR I would say.
While some may think that the language spoken as a problem, I really enjoyed listening to it. It really connects to the movie. Changing that to normal Tamil will kill the nature of the plot.

Pathu Thala is an excellent Cop-Politcs-Gangster movie with a good storyline and great narration. The movie is a perfect mix of a drama and thriller genre. Full justice done to character development of both main characters, however, I wish the movie covered a bit more on AGR's past life....this would have provided a full circle to what we get to know of AGR at the end.
Characters played out by all actors...small to main role were excellent. Major pointers to Gautham Karthik and Silambarasan (Simbu), with both actors coming up with their best acting skills. Simbu's portrayal of AGR as a ruthless Gangster/Kingmaker is just too good to miss, probably his best to date. Gautham Karthik was excellent as well, and such an underrated actor, although I am happy to see him in more movies now.
