U.K. sales and distribution outfit Blue Finch Films has boarded worldwide rights, excluding Australia and New Zealand, to thriller “Birdeater.”
The debut feature from filmmaking duo Jack Clark and Jim Weir follows a bride-to-be who is invited to join her own fiancé’s bachelor party on a remote property in the Australian outback. But as the festivities spiral into beer-soaked chaos, uncomfortable details about their relationship are exposed, and the celebration soon becomes a feral nightmare.
Blue Finch describes the film as “an unapologetic look at how Australia’s iconic masculine identity has become incompatible with contemporary gender politics.” The film stars Shabana Azeez (“Run Rabbit Run”) and Mackenzie Fearnley (“Operation Buffalo”) as the soon-to-be-wedded couple. Written by Clark, the film is produced by Stephanie Troost and Ulysses Oliver of Breathless Films. The Australian and New Zealand rights are with Umbrella Entertainment.

Before Baz Luhrmann took award season by storm with "Elvis," he made "Australia." If you've forgotten about the 2008 epic starring Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman, you're not alone; the movie wasn't exactly embraced upon release, and while it made plenty of money at the box office, it also became a bit of a punchline among critics that year. As Stephanie Zacharek wrote in a review for Salon, "The second half of 'Australia,' Luhrmann's attempt to pull off a wartime weeper, is so aggressively sentimental that it begins to feel more like punishment than pleasure."
So what does "Australia" have to do with "Faraway Downs"? Well, everything. The upcoming six-episode limited series set to drop on streaming next month has been branded as a reimagining of Luhrmann's movie -- a second stab at his Australian "Gone With The Wind." It's an unusual choice from an always-interesting filmmaker, and we'll know...

Brian Knappenberger explores technology and crime in “Web of Make Believe: Death, Lies and the Internet,” a six-part anthology docuseries from Imagine that will debut on Netflix June 15.
Episodes include “Death by Swat” about the consequences of “swatting” – a harassment technique that involves a person making a false report to emergency police against an innocent target – and “A Murder in D.C,” about the conspiracies around the 2016 murder of Seth Rich, the slain Democratic National Committee staffer whose death was used by right-wing activists to help exonerate Russia’s interference in the 2016 Presidential Election.
“‘Web of Make Believe: Death, Lies and the Internet’ is a collection of stories gathered over years of making films about the world of technology,” says Knappenberger. “I’ve always been interested in how technology changes the lives of everyday people, and in how our perceptions and brains are changed. Over two years after its slated pre-pandemic bow, the fourth production of David Mamet’s “American Buffalo” has arrived on Broadway. The nearly 50-year-old play takes place in a junk shop owned by Don (portrayed in this remounting by Laurence Fishburne), who has seller’s remorse over a valuable buffalo nickel and conscripts his assistant and protégé Bobby (Darren Criss) and, later, his buddy Teach (Sam Rockwell) to steal it back. Directed by Mamet’s frequent collaborator Neil Pepe, “American Buffalo” opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre on April 14 for a limited run.
Much of the luster of this staging has been dulled by the recent incendiary comments by playwright Mamet. The majority of the mixed reviews of “American Buffalo” reflect on this news, remark on the strong performances from the trio of actors, and question how well the text has aged. In a negative take, Alexis Soloski...

Immanence, the new film from director Kerry Bellessa and co-writer Joshua Oram, the team who gave us Amber Alert, begins on a dark and abandoned boat. As we hear the search and rescue team searching for the crew we see a silent figure appear and then disappear. Then the film flashes back to the start of the story.
Naomi (Summer Bellessa; Funny Thing About Love) and her team are looking for proof of extraterrestrial life. When a meteorite lands somewhere in The Bermuda Triangle and starts emitting strange signals they think they may have discovered what they were looking for.
They rent a boat owned by Davis and captained by a man named Jonah, a name which should have had them running in the other direction.

Are you ready to celebrate Christmas with the Carringtons?
Dynasty Season 4 concluded with Fallon shot, Alexis in jail for a murder she did not commit, and more drama for the characters.
Thankfully, The CW is giving fans a holiday treat on Monday, December 20, in the form of the first two episodes of Dynasty Season 5.
The network also revealed a wealth of plot details, and if we're to read between the lines, Fallon Carrington is gone.
Then again, the network knows this is a massive cliffhanger that will be resolved throughout the two-hour Holiday special, so Fallon could likely have survived.
"Fallout from Blake's (Grant Show) gala finally begins to settle and Blake and Cristal (Daniella Alonso) work on the next phase of his campaign," reads the logline for the first half of the event.
"In his hour of need, Liam (Adam Huber) turns to Sam (Rafael de la Fuente) and...

In a new Starfield developer diary called “Into the Starfield: The Endless Pursuit,” game director Todd Howard talks about how the upcoming sci-fi RPG will continue one of The Elder Scrolls series’ most iconic traditions.
“You always have that ‘step out’ moment into the world,” Howard says of previous Elder Scrolls and Bethesda Studios titles. “[Now,] technology’s changed, we’ve all changed, so our expectations when loading up a game – like, ‘Okay, we’re going to step out into this moment’… Us being able to do that and have it feel new every generation, every game is something that’s really special about what we do.”

The hit indie RPG Disco Elysium is considered by many to be an achievement in the genre. Featuring exceptionally good writing and a richly detailed world, the game evokes memories of the RPG classics of yesteryear like Fallout and Planescape: Torment. It's the type of RPG that thoroughly immerses the player by providing them with a multitude of choices, and outcomes for those choices.

That sprawling capacity for player choice combined with an innovative skill system is what makes the game so appealing, but it can also be a little intimidating, especially to those without a background in RPGs. Don't worry too much, though -- there isn't really a right or wrong way to be playing the game.

It’s a curious fact that some of the most notable documentaries of recent years have revolved, in one or another, around skateboarding.
Minding the Gap, the 2018 documentary by Bing Liu, earned an Academy Award nomination for its story of Liu and two friends who gravitate towards skateboarding as an escape from difficult upbringings. Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl), director Carol Dysinger’s 2020 film on a skateboarding school in Afghanistan that caters to girls, won the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject.
Skateboarding plays a central role in Joe Buffalo, a short documentary directed by Amar Chebib that’s a contender for Oscar consideration this year. The film centers on the eponymous Joe Buffalo, who was born to a family of Samson Cree heritage on the plains of Alberta, Canada. As a kid he saw a cousin pull off tricks on a board and became hooked himself.

The Broadway revival of David Mamet’s American Buffalo starring Laurence Fishburne, Sam Rockwell and Darren Criss – postponed from 2020 due to the Covid shutdown – will open at Circle in the Square Theatre on Wednesday, April 14, 2022, two years to the day after its original target.
Previews for the strictly limited 16-week engagement will begin the week of March 22. The play will be directed, as originally planned, by Neil Pepe.

Reminiscence opens on a striking image of a half-submerged Miami, with buildings rising out of the deepest part of the water like tombstones in a flooded graveyard, while the less inundated areas are filled with people splashing through knee-high water on foot or cruising blithely down streets in boats like they’re vacationing in Venice.
It’s a haunting visual metaphor for the movie’s thematic preoccupation with memory, and how human beings desperately cling to the memories that comfort them even as time works its slow, steady entropy on our lives and places. Both those recollections and those buildings will eventually vanish one day, leaving behind nothing but the waves.
Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman) plies his trade in those memories. In this not-too-distant future, where climate change and a war of indeterminate origin have wrecked a large portion of the planet for most of us, a technology has been...

Shantae Barnes-Cowan leads the cast of Jub Clerc’s debut feature Sweet As, about to wrap a five week shoot in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
The young actor, who has had roles in Total Control, Operation Buffalo and the upcoming Wyrmwood: Apocalypse, plays 16-year-old Indigenous girl, Murra.
After a volatile fight with her mother, Murra is abandoned, but with intervention from her uncle, she ventures on a journey of self-discovery.
Starring alongside the 2019 Casting Guild of Australia Rising Star are Tasma Walton, Mark Coles Smith and Ngaire Pigram.
A Nyul Nyul and Yawuru writer/director, Clerc penned the script with long-time collaborator Steve Rodgers, the dramaturge on her first play, ‘The Fever and the Fret’.
The film is partly based on her own experience growing up in the Pilbara and The Kimberley. It stems from a long-standing ambition between her and close friend, Arenamedia producer Liz Kearney, to create a feature together.

This Loki article contains spoilers.
The fourth episode of Loki, “The Nexus Event,” has a lot of shocking moments. Mobius got vaporized while giving a defiant speech. Lady Sif showed up, proving that she didn’t become the Mark Brendanawicz of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The post-credits scene went all “Into the Loki-Verse:. Owen Wilson said, “How?” and it sounded as delightfully weird as when he says, “Wow!” But one of the bigger moments was the big revelation about the Time-Keepers.
After one of them was beheaded, it turned out that the trio of time gods weren’t actually real. They were just animatronics, ruling over the timeline like a slightly more sinister version of Rock-afire Explosion. That leaves us with more questions about what’s really going on.
First off, were the Time-Keepers ever real? The MCU has a habit of teasing established comics canon, telling a lie, and...
