Academy Award-winning actor Forest Whitaker is the latest to crossover from Star Wars to Marvel. He's joined the cast of Ryan Coogler's Black Panther as have Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke, and Florence Kasumba officially. There's been crossover before (notably Samuel L. Jackson) but now that Disney, Marvel, and Lucasfilm are all working together we're seeing some actors pop up in multiple franchises. Lupita Nyong'o played Maz Kanata in The Force Awakens then went on to star in Disney's The Jungle Book (and the newly released Queen of Katwe) and landed a role in Marvel's Black Panther. Black Widow Scarlett Johansson also voiced a character in The Jungle Book. It's not quite the bygone studio era but the trend does make me think Thor: Ragnarok's Tessa Thompson has a good chance take the female lead in the Han Solo film. Whitaker will be seen December 16th as Rogue One's Saw Gerrera,...

ComicCon offers all kinds of experiences for attendees. You can stay completely in the world of film or immerse yourself in comics or even spend the weekend exploring tutorials and self-help panels. This year, due to a number of factors and in a pleasant surprise, my Con ended up being very music-heavy. I had the opportunity to talk with several film and television composers about their work, their process, and what being a composer in this industry means.
Versatility is essential for a career in film and television composition, given the range of projects out there. One composer I spoke with, iZLER, is currently working on Revenge and Shameless. Another, Chris Tilton, recently finished composing the music for the revamp of The Sims (mostly orchestral) and is currently at work on the new fall series Almost Human (mostly electronic). Not only do composers need the flexibility to seamlessly transition from...

Disney and Lucasfilm officially announced at the closing ceremonies of Star Wars Celebration Europe that Star Wars Celebration VII will be held in Anaheim, California from April 16th to 18th, 2015. It will be timed with the release of J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: Episode VII, which means there's a strong possibility that they are planning to release the movie in May of that year, which makes sense.
I've never been to one of these Star Wars Celebrations, but I hope I'll be able to make it to the one planned for Anaheim, as I'm sure it will be a ton of fun with lots of cool stuff to check out!
Here's the official press release that went out:

UK theme park Pleasurewood Hills has announced next month's launch of their new horror attraction, “Hobs Pit.” The dark ride was developed in partnership with special effects expert Rob Ostir and voice actor Corey Burton as one of several new rides commemorating the park's 30th anniversary. Parks and Burton have worked previously on Us-based theme parks, including Disney World and Universal Studios, and have been involved with numerous Disney features, as well as the films 2012, Mars Attacks! and The Chronicles of Narnia. Burton's long history of voice acting roles includes Disney's Aladdin, TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and video games like Batman: Arkham City and God of War: Ascension. While park management are keeping a tight lid on the ride details, they revealed that Hobs Pit is based on an old abandoned mine shaft and “unexplained phenomena” discovered during excavations at the park. Pleasurewood Hills General Manager Alexis...

Chicago – Legendary is one way to describe C2E2 – the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. Comic book and pop culture fans gathered at McCormick Place in Chicago from April 26-28, 2013, for three days of celebration with their favorite comic, movie, game and television celebrities, and HollywoodChicago.com was there.
One of the highlights of the expo were two stars from the hot HBO epic series, “Game of Thrones,” Natalie Dormer and James Cosmo. Like many of the celebrity participants, they held a forum at which fans asked questions about the current season. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” also was also represented, with Laurie Holden and Chandler Riggs holding court. And there were old favorites like Julie Newmar and Burt Ward of the 1966 classic TV series “Batman,” signing autographs and greeting admirers.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni has already confirmed that he would be a part of the new Star Wars animated series that Disney and Lucasfilm will be developing. We've heard rumors and speculation on what the new series will be about, but there are no confirmed details yet. Filoni recently posted the Star Wars sketch above on his Facebook page with a note that says,
It’s hard to believe that I have worked at Lucasfilm almost eight years, and this is the first time I have ever gotten to draw a Tie fighter.
Many fans are speculating that this is our first look at what the new design will be like. I take his statement above as he is drawing the Tie Fighter in an official capacity for Lucasfilm, as part of his actual job. If this is true, then Tie Fighters exist in the new animated series,...

IGN Movies spotted the following Facebook post by Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director Dave Filoni, and as they point out, it seems likely that the reason for this sketch is because he's working on a new series of some sort for Disney (he has in fact already confirmed that he is part of the team developing that project). Many are already speculating that this series will take place between the events of Episode VI and Episode VII, filling in the gap between the two different trilogies. What do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts in the usual place! "It’s hard to believe that I have worked at Lucasfilm almost eight years, and this is the first time I have ever gotten to draw a Tie fighter."...

As it's Star Wars day today (May the Fourth be with you!), what better time to look ahead to the next Star Wars film on the horizon, Star Wars Episode VII, and its box office prospects?
A couple of things to note before we start: This article is meant to be less of an in-depth analysis box office figures (and in fact uses figures not adjusted for inflation—so an in-depth look at adjusted figures would be something for another article), but a more wide-ranging look at the factors which could contribute to a phenomenal, perhaps earth-shattering (or planet-exploding), degree of box office success. So if this analysis seems clumsy and random, like it's flailing around wildly like Jar-Jar Binks, try and think of it more like a blaster: not as elegant as a lightsaber, but it'll do when the need arises.
Many of these factors may not necessarily be original insights,...

A new clip from the "sixth season" of Star Wars: The Clone Wars was released. The Cartoon Network show has been cancelled due to Disney's acquisition of the franchise but it's thought that the episodes that were supposed to make up season six will be released on dvd. TV Guide hasn't seen the pilot episode of ABC's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. but they have read the script. Here's how they describe the show. Why we like it: An action-packed thrill ride that resurrects Agent Coulson (Gregg) and introduces Ming-Na as a steely new agent? Count us in! Ghost in the Shell: Arise, the prequel to the entire GitS series is receiving a theater release in Japan on June 22nd. Four, 50-minute Ova's are being produced with a dvd/blu-ray release set for a month later on July 26th. Thankfully (for American fans), the blu-ray disc will include subtitles in Chinese...

So, ComicMix readers, as per my previous column, Awesome Con DC happened April 20 and 21…and, I say this unironically, it was awesome. I had a blast. I spent time with good friends; I met new friends; I walked the con floor and met comics legends (great chat, Larry Hama!) and witty and charming award-winning artists (hello, Ben Templesmith!); and was delighted with the strong turnout of talented local comics folks. I went to a couple of panels (amazing, for me, since I usually plan to go to tons and then don’t go to…any); and wore my Girl Jayne Firefly costume. And yes, naturally, I bought some stuff (surprise!). I also pretended to be Nick Galifianakis for awhile (don’t tell!) and did three fantaaaastic interviews: with Nick, and with the amazingly talented Phil Lamarr and Billy West. (More convention pictures here, and oh by the way, next year...

Star Wars: The Clone Wars supervising director, Dave Filoni, says there's a new animated Star Wars program on the horizon. The interview, conducted with RebelForceRadio.com was conducted after the news of massive layoffs so rest assured something is in the works. It appears Disney is merely looking to put their own identity on Star Wars rather than do away with animated ventures all together. Said Filoni on the layoffs, "It’s a function of our industry… It’s not my favorite part. You can luckily grow things and bring on many talented people, but there become times when you have to shrink things as well. We happen to be in one of those times right now, but that just paves the way, hopefully, for new things and new creativity in the future." Regarding the new series, Filoni shared that things are still in the early stages. "At this point,...

As part of the acquisition of LucasFilm back in October, Disney also picked up their revered gaming studio, LucasArts. It was a news story that pretty much melted the internet and one which raised more questions than answers. However, in a statement released today, some of those questions were unfortunately answered. The newly appointed parent company has shut down LucasArts and will instead licence out properties to third-party developers and Disney Interactive.
Here’s the press release reported by Kotaku:
“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games,” LucasFilm said in a statement. “As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles.

A few weeks ago, fans of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars received an unfortunate announcement that the show would not be returning to our screens for a sixth season, an expected and predicted repercussion by the transference of ownership from LucasArts to Disney.
However, supervising director Dave Filoni has guaranteed to the fans that The Clone Wars has not ultimately ended, confirming that they’re “continuing production on new Clone Wars story arcs that promise to be some of the most thrilling adventures ever seen.”
In what format this bonus material will be delivered to the fans has yet been undecided, but it has certainly pleased long-time lovers of the series.

As expected Lucasfilm has officially announced that Star Wars: The Clone Wars is going to be ending. As a fan of the series I'm a little disappointed, but they also announced that they are developing a new animated series. Not much is known about the series, but they say it will also include Clone Wars story arcs, and that it will include the "most thrilling adventures ever seen." They also revealed that Seth Green's proposed Star Wars Detours will be pushed back until after the release of Star Wars: Episode VII, which is kind of ridiculous. I'm not sure why, they really don't give a good reason, but that's just how it all played out. Read over the press release below, and let us know what you think about this bit of news.

After George Lucas sold his Star Wars universe to Disney, many projects outside the movie franchise were left open-ended, awaiting the fate of the new masters at the House of Mouse.
One high profile animated series was Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which was produced for The Cartoon Network. The series was in production of its fifth season when the sale went through, and many fans have speculated what would happen to it after it ended its run this March.
Now we’ve got confirmation that the Clone Wars series will not return for a sixth season. Also, another animated series announced before the sale, a comedy created by Robot Chicken actor Seth Green called Star Wars: Detours, will never get off the ground.
Despite the end of the always creative Star Wars: Clone Wars series, some story arcs, however, are being developed and will be available elsewhere as bonus material.

In the official Lucasfilm announcement that everyone was waiting for, the company has confirmed that it will be ending its popular Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with the just-concluded fifth season of the animated series being its last. Tension has definitely been building around Ahsoka’s storyline in the most recent episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars as we head in to the Season 5 finale. We’re still waiting on word of a Season 6, either from Cartoon Network or new Star Wars overlord Disney…

The virtual pinball masters at Zen Studios just sent over the first details and trailer for the third table in the new Star Wars Pinball collection, The Clone Wars, giving us our first in-game look at the only non-Classic Trilogy themed table announced so far.
The Star Wars: The Clone Wars table is based on the CGI cartoon of the same name, and covers the events between Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. As expected, the table includes 3D characters of Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano (his apprentice), Asajj Ventress, Savage Opress and battle Droids. Additionally, players will see a model of a Republic attack gunship — which Zen Studios promises is “especially spectacular when the table is played in 3D”.

The story of Ahsoka Tano takes an unexpected, shocking turn in the epic four-part conclusion to Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season Five. In the first of this four-part episode arc, Anakin and Ahsoka are called back from the frontlines to investigate a deadly explosion at the Jedi Temple. Clues surface that a Jedi might have been responsible for the blast in “Sabotage,” Saturday, February 9th at 9:30am Et/Pt on Cartoon Network.
Trivia:
· The four episodes of this arc are all named after Alfred Hitchcock films: Sabotage (1936), The Man Who Knew Too Much (1934), To Catch a Thief (1955) and The Wrong Man (1955).
· “I’m afraid one can become the other,” says Anakin, referring to past political idealists who have betrayed the Jedi, including Count Dooku and General Krell from Season Four. It’s ironic, given his future.

These possibilities where opened up with the announcement that there will be spin-off movies, this is according to Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger. There are a variety of characters which this can possibly work for. Maybe for example, an R2D2/ C3PO animation feature from the studio that created “Wall-e.

Like an Add-addled God, Cartoon Network giveth and Cartoon Network taketh away, with the channel quietly announcing via its newly released lineup that—in addition to losing Star Wars: The Clone Wars, probably to an inevitable new home at Disney—both Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series are finishing their respective runs, while also offering the possible salve that The Powerpuff Girls are coming back. For those whose superhero proclivities run toward a deeper, more traditional strain of nostalgia, the death of the modern spins on the Justice League and Green Lantern mythology will undoubtedly be a disappointment ...

Earlier this morning, a press release was issued to boast Cartoon Network's upcoming block of cartoons. New shows such as Beware The Batman and Teen Titans Go! were on the release, but two glared out as missing, Green Lantern: The Animated Series and Young Justice. Speculation was that the shows would be ending their runs, and now Newsarama has confirmed from a source at Warner Brothers Animation that the shows will wrap up their runs at seasons end. It is expected that Beware The Batman as well as Teen Titans Go! will take the place of the canceled shows. It should also be noted that Star Wars: The Clone Wars was excluded from the list as well. This was because the show, as expected with Disney's acquisition of LucasFilm, will be making a transition to Disney programing. For the latest on all animated superhero shows make sure to check...

At the end of last year we got the first word on the beta for upcoming Arpg Akaneiro: Demon Hunters, and now Spicy Horse Studios and Dark Horse Comics have announced that this soon-to-be-released game will be expanding into comics.
From the Press Release:
From the brilliant minds behind video game auteur American McGee’s Spicy Horse Studios, Akaneiro mixes a foundation of Japanese folklore with an original mythology inspired by Red Riding Hood, yielding a fantastic and exciting setting for players to explore and perfectly setting the stage for the visual storytelling of comics. Written by Justin Aclin (Star Wars: The Clone Wars) and illustrated by Vasilis Lolos (Conan the Barbarian), the comics follow Kani - a young woman torn between two cultures - on an epic adventure hunting devious Yokai and pursuing a destiny far greater than even she can perceive as a member of the fabled Order of Akane.

Usually the name Star Wars attached to anything will guarantee success. But back in 2008, the animated theatrical release Star Wars: The Clone Wars didn’t exactly receive galactic acceptance. Modest box office and critical barbs like “stilted and overblown,” “cloying” and “visually forgettable” buffeted the film like so many asteroids against the Millennium Falcon. When the Clone Wars series debuted on Cartoon Network soon after, the skeptics still had to be won over. But now in its fifth season, and about to air its 100th episode this Saturday at 9:30am, Star Wars: The Clone Wars is a bona fide hit, [...]...

Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, the fate of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars has yet to be seen. I'm sure they'll keep it going, it will just most likely end up on one of Disney's cable channels. The series has been awesome, and it's getting better and better. Let's hope that Disney doesn't mess with the creative talent behind this series, because I'm going to be pissed if they do what they did with Marvel Animation.
This Saturday, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will air its 100th episode on the Cartoon Network, which is quite an awesome milestone for a sci-fi fantasy series. To give you a little perspective on that, Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek never even made it into the magic three digit numbers. This Saturday, Star Wars: The Clone Wars will air its 100th episode on the Cartoon Network. Not even Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica managed to reach this landmark number, making the achievement of the animated sci-fi show all the more notable.
