The seventh instalment in the long-running found footage franchise, V/H/S/Beyond, sees the series change its focus somewhat, from straight forward horror to a science fiction/horror hybrid. While it doesn’t quite follow Jason and the Leprechaun into space, most of the segments do involve aliens or other sci-fi elements.
Directed by Jay Cheel the film’s wraparound “Abduction, Adduction” begins that trend as Mitch Horowitz, host of Alien Encounters: Fact or Fiction, hosts an investigation of a pair of VHS tapes allegedly found at a flea market, and said to be proof of alien visitation.
That segues into “Stork”, directed by Jordan Downey who co-wrote it with Kevin Stewart based on artwork by Oleg Vdovenko.

Justin Long as Aj in Barbarian Image: Courtesy of 20th Century Studios Director Zach Cregger’s Barbarian is the kind of twisty horror movie that presents quite a challenge when it comes to conducting a spoiler-free interview. "Sweet Home Alabama" was released in 2002, but - two decades later - star Melanie Lynskey says she's still in touch with some of the kids who appeared in the movie with her.
In a poolside interview that InStyle shared on TikTok on Aug. 9 to accompany her cover story, when asked about the famous "baby in a bar" scene from the film, Lynskey explained that she keeps up with some of the kids that played her character's offspring. "I was 21 or 22. I did not have any babies at the time. And I had these five children that I was wrangling, and they were so sweet," Lynskey said. "I'm still in touch with two of them, and they're very cute, very sweet kids."
In the aforementioned scene, Lynskey's character Lurlynn, an old friend of protagonist Melanie (Reese Witherspoon), takes her infant out with her to a local watering hole, provoking Melanie's scrutiny.

The holiday season is almost here and Amazon Prime is getting in the mood with its list of December 2021 releases. Sure there are the usual Christmas movies to be found but the real gift this month are two big original titles.
The sixth and final season of beloved sci-fi series The Expanse premieres on Dec. 10. Amazon is doing its usual release strategy of three episodes on the premiere day followed by a weekly schedule so there’s still some time to be spent with the crew of the Rocinante. The other big ticket item is the Desi and Lucy biopic Being the Ricardos on Dec. 21. Sure, Aaron Sorkin seems to be completely disinterested in I Love Lucy and Nicole Kidman bears no passing resemblance to the iconic comedienne whatsoever but uh…it’s a movie!

Combining Faustian themes and allusions with European folklore and tense, chilling terror, the Shudder Original film provides some highly original holiday season horror.
Eva, an ex-dancer, is now using a wheelchair, unable to walk. When her friend Sophie gives her an old wooden antique advent calendar before Christmas, she realizes each window contains a surprise that triggers repercussions in real life. Some of them are good, but most of them are bad, really bad. Now Eva will have to choose between getting rid of the calendar or walking again – even if it causes death and destruction to everyone she holds dear around her.

Awkwardly bridging the gap between “My Fair Lady” retelling and an episode of “Southern Charm,” Justin and Christian Long’s directorial debut, “Lady of the Manor,” is both a southern-friend romantic comedy and “Casper”-esque tale of ghostly friendship. Mining broad comedy out of the story of a wayward stoner Hannah (Melanie Lynskey— proving that she owed the Longs a favor) who attempts to reform her lazy ways, with the help of the spectral Lady Wadsworth (Judy Greer – essentially playing an antebellum Judy Greer), with a love triangle thrown in to pad out the runtime, the Longs’ debut film may be Frankensteined together from disparate genres.

Though Lady of the Manor, written and directed by brothers Justin Long and Christian Long, centers on the meeting of a Reconstruction-era ghost (Judy Greer) and a modern-day pothead (Melanie Lynskey), that’s not the most surprising thing about it. No, that would be how tedious and misguided the film turns out to be. Despite the enjoyable chemistry between its leads and a promisingly offbeat premise, the buddy comedy does a better job of betraying its filmmakers’ lack of imagination than it does conjuring any real laughs.

The directorial debut of brothers Justin and Christian Long (who also co-write) hinges on a pedophilia joke. Let’s get that out in the open because you’re either the type of person who can chalk it up to “good humor” and carry on or the type who checks the calendar, realizes it is indeed 2021, and decides to spend their time on anything else. It’s not like Lady of the Manor consciously deals with the gag beyond an ill-advised decision to make a callback like it’s no big deal either. The Longs put their plot in motion on its back, push it aside to make room for a 1990s-era douchebag and multiple fart jokes (the latter do deliver some legitimately good laughs), and ultimately revive it as a parting gift.

"Did you just come into my room to fart?" What a line. Lionsgate has released an official trailer for a kooky comedy titled Lady of the Manor, written and directed by brothers Christian Long & Justin Long, making their feature directorial debut together. The film follows a stoner who, after getting a gig as a tour guide in a historic manor, befriends the ghost of the former lady of the residence. "We really love buddy comedies from the '80s and '90s... We realized it was such a good opportunity for that type of buddy comedy, but with two women, and we just felt like we hadn't seen that in that way." Melanie Lynskey and Judy Greer star in this offbeat buddy comedy creation, with a full cast including Justin Long, Luis Guzmán, Patrick Duffy, Nick Morgulis, and Ryan Phillippe. This doesn't look like the most interesting or humorous take on this concept,...
