I came across this show tonight while channel surfing and at first thought that it was a comedy sketch show along the lines of MadTV. I was willing to watch for a few minutes in hopes of a punch line or that they would end this horrible train wreck and move on to a funny sketch. Alas, my hopes were diminished as it became obvious that it was in fact an actual show.
The plot is vaguely reminiscent of "Fresh Prince of Bel Air" in that it stars a rap star as a family member out of place in his rich relatives home. But that's where the similarity stops. The acting is absolutely atrocious and the jokes just aren't funny. In fact, the only "joke" is that this network (My Network TV) would allow this embodiment of the perpetuation of horrible stereotypes of black people to be broadcast. I can't even begin to describe how offensive it is on every conceivable level.
I sincerely hope that no one watches this and I encourage everyone to contact this network and let them know that America is tired of this "Blacksploitation" media.

I did like this show when I was young. My favourite actors of this series were Kelly Perine of "One On One" & "Between Brothers" & the main star Flavor Flav. It was cool because Flavor Flav's character Calvester was a thuggish man who came to live with his younger brother WInston & his family after he was released in prison for something that was NOT even his fault. & he was hilarious for doing some of the things that he did. It's a shame that Under One Roof's ratings were so low that MyNetworkTV (formerly known as UPN) decided to cancel it after 13 episodes. Plus I so liked the promos where it would show the MyNetworkTV logo with either the "Cali Cal" chain or a hat with a pair of sunglasses. I even liked the promos where the main theme plays. My favourite character was Calvester because he was cool & he was hilarious.

This show is so hilarious, Flavor Flav makes it wonderful! He is so awesome, I am one of his fans! I especially love his catchphrase "Flavor Flav! Yeah, boy!".
Flavor's character Calvester Hill is my #1 favorite character! Calvester is also hilarious and awesome like his portrayer Flavor! Hopefully, this show will be brought back with brand-new seasons and episodes! I do not even know why it was taken off the air in the first place! I do not even understand why people criticize this show! What is so stupid about it? In my opinion, Flavor Flav does not make the show worse, but rather improves it!
Anyway, yeah, I just wish the show was still airing with more episodes and did not get negative responses.

I caught a sneak-peek of this show on cable last night and to be frank it was quite funny, though never breaking new ground like other TV sitcoms have done in recent years such as Two and a Half Men and "The New Adventures of Old Christine". The Cosby Show was notable in that it introduced characters that neither were caricatures or stereotypes though later in the early nineties, the genre went "Hog Wild" when "Martin" and of course the outrageously funny, raunchy, and intellectually-devoid "Married...With Children" rolled along the airwaves in all of its gut-busting glory(sadly, this was at a time when the genre was fresh and exuberantly arousing. "sniff"). As for the show itself, its premise is familiar; think of it as a urban, hip version of "The Town Mouse Meets The Country Mouse". Here are the similarities: One is a conservative, wealthy, well-mannered, "Clark Kentish" dude and the other is an ex-con from an opposite side of the...United States of America. Now with these two characters, you know there's gonna be a "culture clash" of sorts which gives way to many outrageous situations and goofy mayhem that inevitably will occur throughout the course of this new show.
Fresh off from his cable-only stint "Flava of Love" former Public Enemy front-man Flavor Flav gets to flex his comedic muscle alongside Kelly Perine ( of One on One fame). Since this is a preview, I'm not sure about the two female characters, though one of them is likely to be one of the main character's love interest which makes for a romantic subplot among other things. Though the premise isn't nothing new and the writing is a little spotty in places, I think the show has a real chance if the writers are willing to take it further into untouched territory in terms of its content. Having never seen Flavor Flav in a comedic sitcom (well, there WAS a lot of humor on Flavor of Love) this may be something special, if not a solid addition to an otherwise lukewarm career. Check it out if you're curious or fan of Flavor Flav.

I'd only ever seen a bit here and there once or twice of "Flavor of Love" which lead me to believe that the Flava Flav phenomenon was something i had no interest in. Well tonight, that has changed. I happened upon an episode of this show and LAUGHED AS I HAVE NOT IN AGES!!!
I could not believe how offbeat and zany and sometimes kind of wrong it is, but in a great and, dare I say, ingenious sort of way. It's so over the top & hilariously written and Flava Flav just lights up every scene.
I don't know what show these other reviewers have been seeing, but people are always more likely to take the time to complain about something than to praise something they enjoy.
I've only seen one and a half episodes, but I AM HOOKED! I'm not usually home on Wednesday nights, but I am going to make a point of re-arranging my weekly schedule to catch it from now on. it's THAT funny.
It's funny too, i thought this show premiered in 2006 or 2007 - I remember seeing the ads for it - seems so long ago.
I can't wait for the DVDs!
Please don't cancel this show - it must go on!
