Mexican actress Barbara Mori who came to India years ago to shoot with Hrithik Roshan in Kites, has matured mellowed and metamorphosed into a dependable performer. In Netflix’s Lucca’s World, she is cast as a mother coping with a child with cerebral palsy. The description makes her sound like a Mexican avatar of Mother India. And to a large extent, she is what every mother is when it comes to a special child: anxious, tense, and hopeful….
What makes Lucca’s World special, in spite of its unabashed sentimentality, is its humane attitude to the poignant situation. Barbara(Mori) and Andres(Juan Pablo Medina) discover soon after their child’s birth that Lucca(Julián Tello) cannot talk or walk and would probably not be able to live without constant attention. The couple’s struggle is never romanticized with excessive maudlinism and background music.
The tone feels right, if at times a tad trite.

The earlier Hindi film industry, or as we all fondly call it, Bollywood, was not very keen on Ott movies or shows. A few years ago it was not possible to produce a decent documentary where the actors would come forward and speak about their journey. In the last two decades, there has been only one major documentary that stood out for the right reasons, Madness in the Desert, which chronicled the making of Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Lagaan. However, in the last one-year, Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli has emerged as a documentary that has spoken nothing but the truth about how the great visionary Telugu director and his family made it into the film industry. The reason Modern Masters: SS Rajamouli worked is because it felt personal, and all of us got a peek into the lives of this family who walk, talk, and breathe cinema.

Jerrod Carmichael has a problem. “I didn’t know it was a problem,” he says during his new HBO series, “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show.” But recent events have made it clear that it is, in fact, a problem. A big one. What is it? “I only like to do exactly what I want to do.”
You may be thinking, “Wait, what’s wrong with that? Don’t we all only like doing what we want?” Sure we do. Except, not really, and not in the way Carmichael means here. He’s saying he doesn’t like doing things for other people. Like, at all. He doesn’t want to drive you to the airport. He doesn’t want to let you crash at his place for a few weeks. He doesn’t want to do the things friends are expected to do simply because it helps someone they care about.

Ray Shulman, a co-founding member and bassist of the influential prog-rock band Gentle Giant, has died at the age of 73.
According to his brother and bandmate, Derek, Ray passed away on March 30th after “he bravely battled a long illness.”
Having grown up in a musical family, Ray and brothers Phil and Derek started their first band together in the early 1960s. Performing as Simon Dupree and the Big Sound, the band quickly earned a record deal with Emi and achieved a top 10 single with their song “Kites.” At one point, their lineup even featured a young piano player named Reginald Dwight, who went on to find fame as Elton John.
Simon Dupree and the Big Sound’s existence was short-lived, as the Shulman brothers became disillusioned by the music industry and being seen as one-hit wonders. After unsuccessfully attempting to release music under the moniker The Moles, the group broke up.

KollywoodIs it okay for music composers to be inspired by other compositions? When does an inspiration become a plagiarised work?Anjana ShekarFacebook/ Saarattu Vandiyila - Kaatru VeliyidaiA few days ago, music composer Santhosh Narayanan was accused of plagiarism for ‘Kanda Vara Sollunga’, a moving oppari (Tamil folk lament style) number in the voice of Kidakuzhi Mariyammal, in Dhanush’s upcoming film Karnan. However, the makers had clearly credited popular folk singer Thekkampatti S Sundarrajan for the tune at the beginning of the video. His version is a devotional song sung in praise of Ayappan, and it goes ‘Kanda Vara Sollunga, Ayappanai". While the accusation in this case is perhaps unfair since due credit was given, there have been several instances in the past when fans have pointed out similarities between songs. For example, Anirudh’s ‘Chumma Kizhi’ composed for Rajinikanth’s Darbar which was released in 2020, closely resembles a devotional song.

The Hrithik Kangana battle has not just ended but is getting uglier day by day. Over the past year and a half, Kangana Ranaut poured her heart out against an alleged affair with Hrithik Roshan, his co-star from Kites. She called him his 'silly ex' and even went on to provide proof of their relationship but never once did Hrithik accept the charges. Now, after ''suffering from over 4 years of ordeal'', Hrithik Roshan has decided to speak up, once and for all. Taking to Twitter to issue his side of the story and prove that he did not go out with Kangana, Hrithik posted this: The note states that everything the Simran actress has claimed so far was wrong and he decided to speak up because he couldn't continue living in a world of lies. This comes after the forensic investigation revealed that no emails were sent to Kangana Ranaut by Hrithik,...

The tables have turned in the Kangana Ranaut-Hrithik Roshan drama and it’s not looking good! What might go down as one of the ugliest drama in the history of Bollywood scandals, Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut, who have left whole of Bollywood involved in their drama have once again picked on a new point. As per latest reports, Hrithik Roshan ‘s lawyer has filed a legal complaint against the Simran actress on grounds of harassment and stalking. 29 pages long, the complaint has Hrithik alleging that Kangana sent him sexually explicit messages and emails and stalked him, following which, Hrithik was ‘repulsed but ignored such mails out of decency’. Some more tidbits regarding their debated relationship also came out. According to the letter, the two celebs met while filming for Kites, way back in 2009. With the release of the incredibly ambitious Jagga Jasoos, director Anurag Basu cements his position as one of Bollywood's premier creative voices. With a career that started over a decade ago largely dedicated to making potboilers, Basu really started to show his stuff with the big budget attempted crossover film Kites, famously re-edited by Brett Ratner and released to Us cinemas as Kites Remix. However, it was his 2012 silent film-inspired Barfi!, starring Ranbir Kapoor in a breakout role, that showed the Indian film industry that Basu was interested in making films outside of the usual expectations. Barfi! went on to great box office and critical success and eventually ended up as India's official submission to the Academy Awards for that year, but controversy followed...

The bitterness between Kangana Ranaut and the Suman family is not hidden from anyone. It came to light when Adhyayan Suman opened about his traumatic experience last year during the course of his relationship with Kangana, back from the year 2008. And, it looks like things are still as bitter as ever between them. Vishal Bhardwaj directed Rangoon, which released in around 1800 screens across the country, did not do as good as expected and earned a total to Inr 20.22 in four days. After it failed at the Box Office, actor Shekhar Suman took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the same, which was ofcourse not sweet at all. "One cocained actress was carrying the burden of her non-existent stardom. She has fallen flat on her face n how. Guess this is poetic justice," he wrote. According to Adhyayan, he was tortured and abused by the 'Queen' actress, when they were together.

When Hrithik, Rakesh Roshan and his family met Fast & Furious director Rob Cohen, a section of the media went berserk with speculation. Soon the speculation that Hrithik would be doing a film with Cohen turned into report stating that Hrithik would indeed be doing an action film with Cohen. Laughs Rakesh Roshan, "Sometimes the media knows things about us that we don't. It's easy to calculate and say Hrithik met Rob Cohen. And since Rob is known for the Fast & Furious series they're doing an action film together. But no such thing is happening. Rob is a friend and we met just for a meal." Rakesh Roshan further adds, "We've known Rob from the time when we did Kites. Rob is a big fan of Hrithik. It's true he wants to make a film with Hrithik. But there's no project at the moment." Interestingly, Hrithik has constantly shunned all attempts to be wooed by Hollywood.

Kangana admits that during Rakesh Roshan's last production venture "Kites", which was directed by Anurag Basu, she was upset as her chracter was not adapted the way it was explained in the script.

'Force' (2011)
Starring John Abraham, Genelia D'Souza, Vidyut Jamwal
A tense, fast-paced police action drama with a heaping dollop of romance, 'Force' does no such thing to the audience. The high emotional stakes and fine technical execution command attention—not to mention the lead, John Abraham, who doesn't need to do much to keep eyes glued on him.
'Force' has more visual treats than just beefcake—it's shot by exceptional cinematographer Ayananka Bose (who was behind the visually stirring 2010 film 'Kites'), and the action sequences are tight and exciting.
Abraham, in one of his biggest box-office successes as a headliner, plays Yash, an earnest John Wayne of few words and outrageously many muscles. He's a hardworking loner cop, minus any cliché, troubled backstory—granted—but he's so good he verges on cloying. Even when the sultry, sassy Maya (Genelia D'Souza) crosses his path,...

It looks like Kangna's grievances with the Roshans regarding Kites has been completely washed away. Not only was she treated like a princess all through the making of Krrish 3, we hear she will be shooting a song with Hrithik this week in Jordan. Says our source, "Rakesh Roshan will shoot a love song featuring the other pair (Hrithik and Kangna). Since Kangna plays a mutant it was a tricky situation to pull off in the script. Choreographer Raju Khan has come up with steps gestures and movements that require immense body control and subtle facial expressions from both the actors. Hrithik and Kangna have been put through rigorous rehearsals for the number which will be shot in Jordan." While Hrithik's dancing skills need no corroboration, Kangna too is said to be very skilled on her feet. During the making of Kites when she had to perform a Salsa dance item with Hrithik,...

Bollywood romantic comedy 'Barfi!', directed by Anurag Basu and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, has been chosen as India's official entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category for the 85th Academy Awards in 2013.
'Barfi!'—a commercial hit produced by Disney Utv Studios that released on Sept. 14—is a love story about a deaf, mute man and his autistic girlfriend.

Mumbai, Sep 22: To many, it is surprising that Anurag Basu is the same man who helmed "Kites" and "Barfi!". The director, who believes touching a hundred hearts is more important than Rs.100 crore box-office takings, says versatility often turns out to be a disadvantage in the film industry.
"I personally feel it is a disadvantage to be a versatile director. Producers don't know where.

Barfi!
Stars: Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopran Ileana D’Cruz, Rupa Ganguly, Saurabh Shukla | Written and Directed by: Anurag Basu
When Bollywood decides to tackle things like disabilities, I’m always certain they’re going to it horribly wrong. They don’t always, like Asperger’s Syndrome in My Name Is Khan, and dyslexia in Taare Zameen Par. The right writers and director can do things with the appropriate sensitivity, as Anurag Basu does in Barfi! with a deaf and mute boy, and a girl with Autism.
Told in flashbacks of various characters telling their stories of the life of Barfi (Ranbir Kapoor), a deaf and mute boy. One of them, is Shruti (Ileana D’Cruz), a girl who moves to Darjeeling, who Barfi falls for and quickly makes her fall for him too. But she is already engaged and they go separate ways when she’s gets married. The film...

I can't imagine that the box office failure of Anurag Basu's attempted international crossover romance film, Kites, was far from the director's mind when he got to work on his latest film, Barfi! (the exclamation point is part of the title). Kites was targeted by the powers that be in Bollywood to be among the first genuine international hits to come from India. In the service of that goal, star Hrithik Roshan was joined by a Mexican leading lady, Barbara Mori, and American director Brett Ratner, no stranger to the top of the box office charts himself, was called in to re-edit the film from a smidge over two hours down to a 90 minute version, unfortunately redubbed Kites: The Remix. In spite of a...

Today Anurag Basu is basking in the glory of accolades coming his way for Barfi!. However it wasn't too long back when he was finding himself in the firing range. His magnum opus Kites couldn't really touch the skies and was one of the most expensive box office debacles on this side of the century. Moreover, his Barfi! too took some time to reach the finishing lines, courtesy constant shooting delays. The brave-heart that he is, Anurag Basu termed these as minor challenges whe...

Anurag Basu's upcoming Barfi! is now, officially, my most anticipated film of the second half of 2012. Basu is perhaps best known to the film world as the director of the failed Bolly/Hollywood crossover Kites from 2010. Kites was written and conceived as the kind of property that would bring major Indian film stars, like Hrithik Roshan into the American mainstream consciousness. Instead, the film, which was reedited for Us audiences by Brett Ratner, flopped even though it's not nearly as terrible as you might read. This time around Basu has his own story to tell, and it draws on some of the finest characters in Hindi film history for its inspiration. Ranbir Kapoor plays Barfi, a deaf-mute charmer who has a way with...

Kangna Ranaut exploded out of the blocks with her award-winning debut as an alcoholic moll in 'Gangster' (2006), followed by strong performances as a schizophrenic actress in the biopic 'Who Lamhe' (2006) and as a suicidal mistress in 'Life In A… Metro' (2007). She then bagged a Filmfare Award and a National Film Award for her portrayal of a drug-addicted supermodel in 'Fashion' (2008). Of late, she's been trying to avoid typecasting as a trainwreck. She made a blink-and-miss-it appearance in the Hrithik Roshan-starrer 'Kites' (2010) as the sweet (but slightly unstable) fiance of a con man. She then went on to again essay the roll of gangster girlfriend in 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai' (2010), opposite Ajay Devgn, but this time, her character had her emotional act together. Kangna had a slew of releases in 2011, mostly comedies, including 'Tanu Weds Manu,' 'Double Dhamaal,...
