You cannot look at PROFESSOR DANTES AND THE SEVERIN CONUNDRUM and compete it to a professionally made short film, as this is a student project--not a larger budget Hollywood-style film. There isn't any attempt to compete with "the big boys" and it would be unfair to make the comparison. In light of this, compared to other student shorts, this isn't bad at all--and in places it's rather clever.
The film is made to look like an old silent film (reminiscent of DR. JECKYL AND MR. HYDE with John Barrymore) and with its accompanying piano music, it is a cute attempt. Professor Dantes and his manservant are lured to the castle of an evil rival--and terror (?) ensues.
I liked the special effects for the monster and it was a nice watchable student flick. I hope to see more from this team in the future.
