There are elements of this thriller, quasi-action movie that I liked a lot. It is unusual, for sure. The pacing and the story are very unique. The revenge story has an unusually tempered tone, which is one of the things I think people did not like about it. It is is little long, and a little disconnected in the story but the point gets across. I think the acting is unusually good for a low budget, foreign film. Mark Dacascos is very good in this. I found his character's motive to be sympathetic, but his execution of his revenge is maybe too cerebral to land emotionally. The supporting cast is very, very strong in this. Worth watching.
I was lured in to watch the 2020 movie from writer and director Wych Kaosayananda mostly because the movie starred Mark Dacascos. But of course, with it being a new movie that I hadn't already seen, that too was a factor that played in on me ending up sitting down to watch "One Night in Bangkok".
And wow, this movie turned out to be a nice surprise. I really liked the movie for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the storyline. While it was sort of simplistic, there was just something appealing to the storyline and the motivation of the characters that were in the story. And of course Mark Dacascos, he is always a blast to watch in movies. But also the fact that it is a semi-Asian movie, that was also appeal; and by that I mean it was set in Thailand, but had an English dialogue.
"One Night in Bangkok" is a story- and character-driven movie, and it is spiced up with some nice enough action and fight scenes. But I must admit that I really enjoyed the storyline and the way that director Wych Kaosayananda presented the storyline visually on the screen.
And the movie had a good cast, that of course helped the movie along quite nicely as well. Not much need to mention Mark Dacascos, because he does what he does best apparently. But Vanida Golten - playing Fha - was also contributing something good to the story with her performance. I am not familiar with her, but she really carried herself well in this movie.
I can warmly recommend that you take the time to sit down and watch "One Night in Bangkok", especially if you are a fan of Mark Dacascos, because this was definitely one of his better movies in some time.
My rating of "One Night in Bangkok" is a solid seven out of ten stars.

Story was ripped from Collateral. You're better off sticking to the original with Tom Cruise an Jamie Foxx.
Can't believe I watched to the end. Your first thought is, Mark Dacascos is the same age as Tom Cruise but Cruise must have alien DNA because Dacascos looks his age .. and Cruise never does. Your second thought is, if they spent more than $10K making this move, they were overcharged. Your third thought is, was there actually a script, or did the director shoot it in one day and let the actors ad-lib? And your last thought, before the credits roll, is that Dacascos gives the performance of his life, of his career, bad script and all.
By all metrics this is much better movie fare than the garbage Hard Kill. That one is a real mangy dog.
This one is not an original story but still engaging enough for the duration and good performances from the lead male and female. Others do well enough holding up their ends. It ain't Hitchcock or De Palma, but it's very watchable.
