Arnold Schwarzenegger didn’t just compete with Sylvester Stallone; he needed him.
“I always need an enemy,” Schwarzenegger admitted in his Netflix doc, Arnold. And in the ’80s, there was no better rival than Stallone. Their legendary feud fueled a golden era of action cinema, with both stars battling it out on-screen and off.
Schwarzenegger and Stallone were literal warriors fighting for Hollywood supremacy. The rivalry hit its peak in 1985 when Stallone’s Rambo: First Blood Part II exploded onto screens. Schwarzenegger fired back with Commando, determined to outmuscle, outgun, and outbox-office his competition.

Jerry Cantrell kicked off his “I Want Blood” North American tour on Friday night (January 31st) in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and performed the Alice in Chains song “Hate to Feel” for the first time in more than 30 years.
The deep cut from the seminal 1992 album Dirt hadn’t been performed by Alice in Chains or any member of the band since a November 1993 show.
Get Jerry Cantrell Tickets Here
Cantrell and his solo band dusted off the tune 13 songs into a 17-song set in Niagara Falls, and played it again over the weekend at shows in Sayreville, New Jersey, and Portland, Maine — which means it will likely remain a staple in the set during the duration of the tour.
Singer Greg Puciato is part of Cantrell’s touring band, and often takes on the late Layne Staley’s vocal parts on the Alice in Chains songs in Cantrell’s sets.

Actor Faran Tahir is set to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the upcoming Disney+ series ‘Vision Quest,’ a spinoff from WandaVision. Tahir will reprise his role as Raza, the leader of the Ten Rings terrorist organization, a character he first played in 2008’s Iron Man. This marks Tahir’s first MCU appearance in nearly two decades, making his return a noteworthy moment for fans of the franchise.
Raza’s story was last seen in Iron Man, where he orchestrated Tony Stark’s kidnapping to force the creation of a Jericho missile. Although the character appeared to meet his end in the film, the MCU has shown time and again that death isn’t always permanent.
The series will follow Vision, played by Paul Bettany, as he attempts to regain his memories and redefine his purpose after the events of Avengers: Infinity War and WandaVision.

Marvel Studios’ upcoming Vision series with Paul Bettany is going back to the source code: Faran Tahir is joining the show as Raza, the role he originated in the studio’s first feature film, 2008’s “Iron Man.”
Bettany is returning as the ghostly white version of the synthezoid he first played in the 2015 film “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and James Spader is reprising his role from “Age of Ultron” as the titular villainous AI. Todd Stashwick (“Star Trek: Picard”) is also playing an unspecified character.
Resurrecting Tahir’s character nearly 20 years after he first appeared will mark the longest gap between appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to date. That’s an even more impressive feat considering that Raza — best known for kidnapping Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark, the inciting incident that leads Start to become Iron Man — was seemingly killed halfway through “Iron Man” by the film’s main villain,...

Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger haven't made a solid action movie since their prison film Escape Plan - which is over a decade old. For many critics, the first Escape Plan movie arrived far too late. Had Arnie and Stallone made a film together in the 1980s or 1990s, that would have been considered a major event. Instead, their first feature-length collaboration - after Arnold had previously cameoed in two of Stallone's The Expendables films - arrived in 2013. Escape Plan bombed domestically and only received 50% on Rotten Tomatoes, but thanks to overseas audiences, it grossed $137 million.
The film was a decent-sized hit, but nobody considered it a highlight in either Stallone or Schwarzenegger's filmographies. Time has been kind to Escape Plan though, and while it lacks the bombast and bodycount of the films they made during their heydays, it's still a great night's entertainment. Sly and Arnie's careers have since gone in different directions,...

As one of the biggest action movie heroes of all time, Sylvester Stallone’s filmography is packed with tense thrillers that have kept viewers on the edge of their seats. While many will know Stallone as the underdog boxer Rocky Balboa, he’s portrayed many more heroes across insightful crime stories, gritty neo-noir tales, and even futuristic sci-fi thrillers. With a brooding physique and endless onscreen chemistry, Stallone’s thrillers are an essential aspect of his legacy as one of the biggest box office draws of all time.
There have been plenty of unloved Stallone movies in need of more attention, and when looking at his catalog, there’s a lot more than just his exciting 1980s hits, like the Rambo franchise. As an actor, Stallone can deliver mindless popcorn entertainment and deeply thoughtful performances with equal measure, meaning he’s a performer with a role to fit all tastes.

Prison escape stories have long seemed to capture our imagination because they speak to our love of antiheroes and underdogs, From Alexandre Dumas' 1846 novel, "The Count of Monte Cristo," to Sylvester Stallone's "Escape Plan" movies, we just love watching innocent people outwit their captors and escape to freedom.
Filmmakers have delivered a fairly steady stream of movies featuring a prison escape, and the best ones know that viewers thrive on the detailed planning, the struggle that immediately follows, and the ultimate catharsis for the characters. We've put together a list of 15 of the best prison escape movies, and while most are dramatic thrillers we managed to squeeze in some comedy, action, and sci-fi antics as well. They include films from Japan, France, and Australia, but it probably shouldn't surprise anyone that most come from the United States –- home to the highest number of incarcerated citizens in the world.

Sylvester Stallone was one of the biggest action stars of the ‘80s and the ‘90s but he had one of the fiercest rivals in Arnold Schwarzenegger. The two were part of a long-standing feud where they constantly competed with each other not just in box office numbers but also in kill counts. The feud reportedly even involved them trying to ruin each others’ careers.
While the duo have since reconciled, the stories of the feud still hold a large space in pop culture history. However, Schwarzenegger may have bested Stallone in one aspect i.e. his wit. The former Governor of California mentioned that he once included a subtle message to legislators and then acted coy when the media asked him.

Clint Eastwood owes his career to Westerns. He became a familiar face to American television viewers between 1959 and 1965 as the ramrod Rowdy Yates in the popular CBS series "Rawhide" before venturing off to Spain, where, with Italian filmmaker Sergio Leone, he helped turn the genre on its ear with the Spaghetti Western trilogy of "A Fistful of Dollars," "For a Few Dollars More," and "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly." From that point forward, Eastwood in any kind of Western was a big deal at the box office, which was especially impressive considering that oaters were declining in popularity throughout the 1960s and into the '70s.
Ultimately, even Eastwood couldn't keep the genre afloat. After an impressive run that included "Hang 'Em High," "Two Mules for Sister Sara," "High Plains Drifter," and "The Outlaw Josey Wales," the star only made one proper Western in the 1980s ("Pale Rider...

Code Orange guitarist-vocalist Reba Meyers has released her debut solo single, “Certain Uncertainty.”
Opening with a pattering drum machine that builds to a full band arrangement, the song has a ’90s alt-rock vibe — more subdued than Code Orange, but still heavy. Meyers’ powerful clean-singing voice is front and center, as are her lyrics, backed by the surging guitars and crushing tone for which she is best known. The five-minute track is accompanied by a self-shot video directed by Greg Puciato.
“I’m finding that I have the space only now in my life to have a bird’s eye view on my adolescence, and that perspective, and current time of growth made it the perfect moment to begin to release solo material,” Meyers said in a press release. “A moment I’ve been sure would eventually come, thought I never knew exactly how it would look.”
She added, “With that,...

We all know Arnold Schwarzenegger terminated the 1980s as the premiere action movie star alongside Stallone, but what about the 90s? Beyond Total Recall, T-2: Judgment Day, and True Lies, what’s the best Arnie action flick released between 1990 and 1999? And when we mean best, we don’t mean box office success, we’re talking about old-school ass-kicking Schwarzenegger action hinting at the halcyon days that date back to Commando and Conan the Barbarian. Is it Last Action Hero? End of Days? Or is it Chuck Russell’s underrated 1996 conspiracy espionage thriller Eraser? If you said Junior, Jingle All the Way, or Batman & Robin, you may kindly show yourselves out the door this instant. Better yet, stick around, Eraser is about to wipe your memory and prove why it’s the last great Arnie action flick to blast the masses in the 1990s.

Many may not recall Sylvester Stallone starring in a Christmas movie, but there is one film under his belt that secretly falls in the genre. Interestingly, however, the Stallone Christmas movie is a far cry from Arnold Schwarzenegger’s well-known feel-good holiday flick, Jingle All the Way. In their long and prosperous careers as actors, both Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone have experimented with different movie genres. While they have mostly played leading roles in action films, they also have other genres like comedy, sci-fi, drama, and thrillers in their portfolios.
The two have even collaborated in several movies, like Escape Plan and The Expendables 3. However, despite being two of the biggest stars of the same era of cinema, Stallone and Schwarzenegger have followed significantly different paths as actors. The variance in their acting journey seems more evident when their Christmas movies are considered. While Stallone's only Christmas movie...

Clint Eastwood is a legend among legends. The actor and director is potentially getting ready to retire, and since he's firmly in his 90s, it's fair to say he's earned it. But Eastwood had at least one more for the road in the form of the acclaimed courtroom drama "Juror #2." Luckily, viewers won't have to wait too long to be able to watch this one from the comfort of home since Warner Bros. didn't let it have a long run in theaters. The film will be readily available to watch before Christmas.
"Juror #2" was released in just 50 theaters with the studio not even reporting the box office returns. Warner Bros. had apparently planned to give this a direct-to-streaming release in the first place, but instead opted to let it have a brief run in limited theaters, perhaps to qualify for the Oscars. Academy Award winner Clint Eastwood’s legal thriller Juror #2, starring Nicholas Hoult (upcoming Superman), has been set to begin streaming exclusively on Max on Friday, December 20.
News of the premiere date follows the film’s quite limited theatrical release on November 1 to less than 50 theaters nationwide. The move saw distributor Warner Bros. Pictures draw criticism from many corners for not properly supporting perhaps one of the final films of a legendary 94-year-old director — a project that has also happened to garner positive reviews, from someone with a longstanding history with the studio.
Among the prominent voices in the filmmaking community who have advocated on Eastwood’s behalf is Guillermo del Toro, who recently took to rising social platform Blue Sky to discuss his experience with the film. Said Del Toro in part, “We saw [the film] at the Grove with a significant crowd that was vocal and responsive all the way. I...

Now that Sylvester Stallone has exited Cliffhanger 2, there's only one franchise left for him to return to. Before the 1980s, sequels and franchises were quite rare. Even when they did happen, they were generally lower-budget than the original, and studios considered themselves lucky to gross around 60% of what the first entry made. Sylvester Stallone was one of the first actors to see the value in building brands for himself, starting with Rocky II in 1979. The star hadn't intended to make a Rocky movie series, but it quickly became a reliable saga for him to return to.
Other Sylvester Stallone movie franchises include The Expendables and Escape Plan, and for a time, it appeared Cliffhanger would join that list. The star was attached to the upcoming Cliffhanger 2, reprising his role as Gabe Walker. Instead, Variety has confirmed the project is being overhauled, and will instead be a soft reboot fronted by Lily James and Pierce Brosnan.

Clint Eastwood isn’t looking to retire anytime soon, according to “Juror #2” actor Gabriel Basso.
The star told The Hollywood Reporter that famed actor/director/producer Eastwood is not slowing down even after his 40th directorial effort, which will get a limited theatrical release on November 1.
“I feel like just because people say that he’s going to say, ‘Screw you guys, I’m making another one;’ even if it’s five minutes long,” Basso said when asked if “Juror #2” will be Eastwood’s final film. “I feel like he’ll find a way just to stick it to everybody.”
Basso’s “Juror #2” co-stars Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette similarly stayed mum about the status of Eastwood’s projects.

Better Lovers have released the new song and video “Love as an Act of Rebellion,” the final taste of the band’s new album Highly Irresponsible before its release on Friday (October 25th).
The song is the closing track on the album and in the words of frontman Greg Puciato, “runs the gamut emotionally.” The first portion of the track sees the band in frenetic metalcore mode, delivering a blitz of fast thrash and breakdowns — maybe the most manic two-minute stretch of any Better Lovers song we’ve heard yet. But then things calm down, ending in a “place of uneasy acceptance,” as Puciato put it.

Escape Plan's twist ending reframes the movie and Arnold Schwarzenegger's character, Rottmeyer. This 2013 action thriller is one of several Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies and cast the former as escape specialist Ray Breslin. Ray is sent to an "inescapable" prison dubbed The Tomb, run by vicious warden Hobbes (Jim Caviezel). Ray soon befriends Rottmeyer, who runs security for a mysterious thief called Mannheim, who steals from the rich to give to the poor. Together, the two men look for weaknesses in The Tomb's design and carefully plot their escape.
It also turns out Breslin's business partner Clark (Vincent D'Onofrio) is in league with Hobbes and wants Ray left trapped in The Tomb, which is eventually revealed to be a prison ship. The first Escape Plan movie ends with Breslin and Rottmeyer putting their scheme into action, and after much shooting and punching, they escape in a rescue helicopter.

Jerry Cantrell has unveiled the title track from his upcoming solo album, I Want Blood. The song features Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan on bass and Faith No More’s Mike Bordin on drums.
“I Want Blood” follows the singles “Vilified” and “Afterglow,” and serves as the final preview of the album before its October 18th release.
The song is one of three tracks on the album that McKagan plays bass on and one of two songs on which Bordin handles drums. Other musicians who contributed to I Want Blood include Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Greg Puciato, Gil Sharone, and Lola Colette.
Of the three singles released thus far, “I Want Blood” sounds the least like Alice in Chains. In fact, it has more of a Queens of the Stone Age vibe. However, Cantrell’s distinct voice and guitar playing are still instantly recognizable.

It Chapter 2 has become a streaming hit on Netflix in the U.S. Based on the 1986 horror novel by author Stephen King, the sequel serves as a follow-up to It (2017), with both films having been directed by Andy Muschietti. The first It film follows a group of kids living in Derry, Maine, as they face off against a terrifying, shape-shifting clown called Pennywise (Bill Skarsgrd), while the sequel follows these same characters 27 years later as they return to their hometown. Both films were box office successes, with the sequel grossing $473 million worldwide.

Jason Statham's action thriller movie The Mechanic, which made $76.3 million at the box office, landed on Netflix's Top 10 US chart 13 years after its release. Statham's action movies are what the lead actor is best known for, being the face of everything from The Expendables movies to The Meg duology. However, one of the action movies that helped expand his role in the gene was The Mechanic, a 2011 remake of the Charles Bronson-led 1972 movie of the same name. Statham's version got mixed reviews from critics, but is still well-remembered for its action sequences.
Now, Netflix has revealed The Mechanic made it onto the streaming service's Top 10 movies list in the US for the week of September 30 through October 6, 2024. The movie came in at Number 5 for the week, just under the Sylvester Stallone-led action film Escape Plan, and just above The Platform 2, a sequel to the streamer's popular 2019 Spanish sci-fi movie.

Escape Plan is one of Sylvester Stallone's lesser known franchises, but in what order do they take place in? After breaking through with Rocky in 1976, Stallone quickly realized the value of building up franchises. He had both the Rocky and Rambo sagas to lean on when he needed a guaranteed hit, and he later created The Expendables for the same reason. Escape Plan is arguably Stallone's worst franchise, though that doesn't necessarily mean there's no fun to be had with them.
The original was one of several Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies that the former rivals made in quick succession during the early 2010s. The series cast Stallone as escape expert Ray Breslin, who often finds himself breaking out of or into "inescapable" penitentiaries. The Escape Plan films don't have a particularly convoluted narrative, though the events of one typically have an impact on the next.

Despite returning the property to a dormant state after its release, Taron Egerton's infamous Robin Hood reboot has found new life on streaming. Starring Egerton as the titular folklore rogue, Otto Bathurst's 2018 movie saw a disgraced Robin take up arms against the corrupt powers ruling Nottingham that took his wealth and status to further their own cause, joining forces with the rebelling commoners. Robin Hood also starred Jamie Foxx as Robin's accomplice John, Eve Hewson as his love interest Marian, and Ben Mendelsohn as the Sheriff of Nottingham.

Have you heard of the "Escape Plan" franchise? There's no reason to fret if you haven't, as only the first film in the series -- simply titled "Escape Plan" -- was a moderate hit, garnering mixed reviews at the time of release. The remaining two entries ended up being straight-to-video sequels, with little to no marketing to amplify their existence, so it is pretty natural to have completely missed out on the franchise.
Well, due to the baffling, arbitrary nature of Netflix's algorithm, which often leads to overlooked titles landing in their Top 10 ranking lists, 2013's "Escape Plan" is currently at #3 among the streaming platform's Top 10 Movies in the U.S. (via FlixPatrol). This entry has been eclipsed by two equally unconventional titles: the inoffensive, yet mediocre "The Garfield Movie" at #2, and the morbid 90-minute crime documentary "Jailbreak: Love on the Run" occupying the number one spot.

If you're a fan of Clint Eastwood the filmmaker, and how can you not be, it's been a rough stretch. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think he's made a truly great movie since the wildly underrated (and underseen) "Letters from Iwo Jima." I've warmed to "Gran Torino" over the years, but after that the movies –- even the mostly good ones –- have been marked by indifferent craftsmanship (who can forget Bradley Cooper making the fake baby's arm move in what was supposed to be one of the most emotionally charged scenes in "American Sniper").
We know Eastwood is renowned for delivering movies ahead of schedule and under budget, so it was hard not to conclude that his drive to keep working, to keep moving, to keep from doing nothing as he passed into his nineties (he's currently 94) was more important to him than making a finely wrought film.
