Alien: Romulus was a big hit for sci-fi/horror genre this summer when it grossed $350.9 million worldwide and received positive reviews. The movie sits on 7.2 IMDb score and 80% / 85% (critics/audience) Rotten Tomatoes score.
Alien: Romulus can now be watched on Hulu and digitally, and it is set for physical release soon. In the meantime, director Fede Alvarez discussed the physical release, a potential sequel, and other projects he would like to do in this genre.
Cheryl Eddy: What are your thoughts on Alien: Romulus being the first VHS released by Disney in nearly 30 years?
Fede Alvarez: Well, it was my idea, so I’m really excited by it. It all started when we released that scene and a trailer on VHS. That was partly because I didn’t want to release a scene too soon. I didn’t want to spoil a moment of the movie too early on the promotion side.

Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice: Michael Keaton’s character from the Tim Burton franchise was essentially summoned from across the TV talk-show landscape on Halloween with hosts on NBC’s Today show, the syndicated Live With Kelly and Mark and The Kelly Clarkson Show all dressing up as the ghost with the most.
On Thursday’s Today, Al Roker dressed up as Beetlejuice and Dylan Dreyer dressed as Winona Ryder’s Lydia Deetz. And on Live With Kelly and Mark later Thursday morning, Kelly Ripa took on Deetz with Mark Consuelos sporting the Beetlejuice ensemble.
Kelly Clarkson also donned a Beetlejuice costume on her eponymous daytime talk show. She kicked off the show with a spooky Kellyoke of “Banana Boat (Day-o).”
While Beetlejuice made a number of apperances on Thursday, Consuelos and Ripa changed costumes multiple times throughout this year’s Only Murders in the Building-inspired “Only Halloween in the Building” Halloween show.

Rogue Flight has 90s prestige anime painted all over it. From its AI-gone-bad narrative to its progressive rock music, the game makes it abundantly clear that it will be a nostalgic deep dive into the earlier days of anime. Yet, that’s not the only reason it’s so charming.
Truant Pixel’s heartfelt letter to the rail shooter genre also stands out as a distinguishing factor. Through and through, Rogue Flight is a fast-paced shooter that’ll keep the engines hot for hours, gluing you to the screen as you spot little pixels and particles that make use of every fun gameplay mechanic you can think of.
Once in a neon blue moon, a game comes out that kindles a newfound spark for a genre you were never familiar with. Rogue Flight did that for me, and I can’t wait to tell you about how awesome this game is.

Andrew Lee can’t stop releasing music. Whether it’s a new full length album Sanshi with his band Ripped to Shreds, or another new album, Koncertos Of Kawaiiness: Stealing Jon Chang’s Ideas, A Book by Andrew Lee from his anime-themed grindcore solo project Houkago Grind Time, the new tunes keep on coming. As you can probably tell by at least one of the bands, Lee is a massive anime fan and allows it to guide his artistic endeavors. I had the chance to chat with him to hear more about his anime origins, taking inspiration from multiple genres, and the type of series in which he could imagine his own music. Can you tell me a little about your anime journey? How it started and where you are now? Are there genres you gravitate toward? Andrew Lee : The earliest anime memories I have are of a copy...

You know what they say: Two is a trend. When most audiences first met Canadian rising star Gabriel Labelle, it was with Steven Spielberg’s 2022 “The Fabelmans,” in which the beloved American auteur told his own semi-autobiographical origin story, with Labelle starring as his cinematic avatar, budding filmmaker Sammy Fabelman. Kind of a crazy introduction to Hollywood, right?
But while Labelle relished the role — and earned plenty of acclaim for it, including winning Best Young Performer at the 28th Critics’ Choice Awards and the award for Breakthrough Performance from the National Board of Review (an accolade he shared with “Till” standout Danielle Deadwyler) — he was also eager to embrace original films. That included Adam Carter Rehmeier’s well-regarded coming-of-age charmer “Snack Shack,” a ’90s-set comedy that helped scratch Labelle’s itch to fully craft a character (and a part he won while still in production on “The Fabelmans”).

20th Century Studios has announced that tickets are now on sale for the latest film in the Alien franchise, Alien: Romulus, and a promo spotlighting quite a bit of terrifying footage that wasn't featured in the previous trailers has been released.
In addition to some interview clips with the cast and director Fede Alvarez, we get to see more of the crew attempting to escape from a whole host of face-huggers, another shot from that intense chest-burster sequence teased in the most recent trailer, and more.
Alvarez also notes that the relationship between Rain Carradine (Cailee Spaeny) and her android foster brother, Andy (David Jonsson), is the "heart of the movie."
“When her father was dying, he left Andy to be a kind of caretaker,” Álvarez said of the duo in a recent interview. “But Andy is a bit damaged and he’s an older model. So more than a surrogate father,...

“It happens to a lot of kids, I think, especially Native boys leaving a community where long hair is celebrated [and then] just kind of getting teased for it, so I remember back then being like, everybody should just be they.”
The Killers of the Flower Moon star continued, “And in most Native languages, most Indigenous languages, Blackfeet included, there are no gendered pronouns.

When director Aaron Truss got in touch regarding checking out his latest film, the short Pareidolia, I jumped in feet first with a resounding yes. Why? Well, Truss had produced a great documentary on the VHS era, Cult of VHS, and this short film starred one of my all-time favourite actresses Diane Franklin… a performer whose roles in Better Off Dead, The Last American Virgin and later Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure had, I’m sure, shaped my idea of the perfect girlfriend and whose roles in Summer Girl and Amityville 2 stirred something in my teenage libido too!
For those unfamiliar with the term, Pareidolia is the scientific term for seeing meaningful images in random visual patterns. It’s what the Rorschach inkblot test is based on,...

The late, great Paul Reubens was an artist of incredible duality, a quality embodied by his most famous character, Pee-wee Herman. With his neatly-cropped hair, snazzy red bow tie, and stylin' grey suit and pants, Pee-wee looked like a member of The Little Rascals who had inexplicably grown up overnight. He wasn't all childish innocence and mischief, though. More than a bratty streak, there was something undeniably twisted about Pee-wee, even if, as a kid, I could never quite place my finger on what it was. I just knew that I liked it.
Reubens' brilliance in the art of dark absurdism made him a perfect match for Tim Burton, another artist who appealed to my off-kilter sensibilities before I was old enough to understand why. The pair would join forces multiple times over the course of Reubens' career, beginning with Burton's feature directing debut, "Pee-wee's Big Adventure," in 1985. Looking back now,...

Since shifting its focus from first-run films to cult classics nearly a decade ago, the Mahoning Drive-In Theater in Lehighton, Pennsylvania — a rural borough about 75 miles northeast of Philadelphia — has thrived as a haven for genre fans. Zombie Fest, Godzilla-palooza, Troma-Thon with Lloyd Kaufman, Camp Blood Slasher Celebration, Werewolf Weekend, and John Waters’ Filthy Film Fest are just a few of the events programmed this season.
I made the trek to the cinematic mecca for the seventh annual Drive-In VHS Fest on July 7-8, where I vended Broke Horror Fan’s line of modern horror films on VHS alongside my partner in 4:3, Witter Entertainment. The event was established in 2017 when Mahoning stalwart Virgil Cardamone worked with Josh Schafer and Ted Gilbert of Lunchmeat VHS — whose VHS preservation efforts include producing new and classic titles on the format, publishing a magazine, and selling themed merchandise — to curate a two-night event...

Within 30 seconds of meeting Jd, better known as titanicfan97 on TikTok, he’ll introduce you to Jack Dawson, i.e. a large dummy with head of Leonardo DiCaprio’s character of the same name from the 1997 blockbuster “Titanic.”
“We got Jack Dawson,” he says over Zoom, pointing to an enormous shrine of the movie behind him. “And ‘Titanic,’ and Captain Smith. You know what’s going on.”
Jd, a video editor who lives in Florida, is best known for his energetic love of the movie “Titanic” on VHS, and his collection is approaching 1,600 copies of the two-tape set. Although he’s picked up about 300 himself, mostly from thrift stories and yard sales, the rest come from enthusiastic fans mailing him copies over the last year, as he’s documented his growing collection on TikTok to over 108,000 followers.

There are few if any pieces of "Star Wars" lore quite as infamous as that of the elusive "Star Wars Holiday Special." The made-for-tv special, produced at the height of the franchise's initial wave of popularity after "A New Hope" hit theaters, was created with the cooperation of George Lucas and aired on CBS. But it aired once and only once, gaining a reputation as notoriously terrible -- so much so that Lucas did his best to wipe its memory from the face of the Earth. Now, a pair of filmmakers have chronicled the journey of the train wreck that is the "Star Wars Holiday Special" in a new documentary titled "A Disturbance in the Force."
The documentary is making its premiere at SXSW in Austin, Texas this week after years of development. It features interviews with many, many people involved, as well as noted fans of a galaxy far,...
