What do you do if the day your first child is to be born is also the same day your father is to be executed? If you're MANNY, you use your father's impending execution as an excuse to flee the daunting responsibility of fatherhood. There's only one problem: Manny lives in Monterrey, Mexico and his father sits in on death row in Texas. Against his wife's wishes, Manny embarks on an ill-planned quest to cross the border to see his father, hoping that the trip will buy him time and insight into his upcoming responsibility. CRUZANDO is a road-trip tale about friendship, fatherhood, and self-discovery that winds itself through the distinct culture of the Texas-Mexico border. The film combines off-beat humor with pathos in showing a young man discovering who he is and what he is meant to be. Accompanied by his childhood best friend, he embarks on a journey in which he crosses paths with luchador coyotes, renegade cowboys, desert angels, and a host of others along the beautiful, surreal, and unforgiving border region known as El Valle. It's the story of Manny - a man who must confront his past in order to move forward, a husband who must overcome his fear of responsibility, and ultimately, a son who must learn to become a father. Crossing a border is never easy.

This is a quirky indie film with a lot of heart. It has moments of laughter, sadness, a real sense of what a border crossing is like but hopeful and rich in acting, editing, and the cinematography is outstanding. Rent it. You won&#39;t be disappointed. I&#39;ve seen this film at a few film festivals. And had the privileged of attending its screening premiere in McAllen Texas. The audience response was awesome. They laughed a lot. Everyone in the theater really enjoyed the twists and turns Cruzando provided. Its not what you expect from a movie that deals with immigration crossing. It takes you on a ride and it doesn&#39;t dwell on the dramatic nature of the immigration experience. It&#39;s a good story. You feel for the characters and I love the ending. Bold.

The story is well written and the plot and story line plays out very well. The characters are beautifully developed. My wife, who does not understand Spanish, thought the same about the movie. She said, &quot;I didn&#39;t even realize I was reading the whole time.&quot; I love movies that can convey so much with so little. When the main character receives the letter from his father on death row, all we really see besides the letter is a clipping from the newspaper. So much of the plot was unfolded during that short scene. The ending was similar in that so much emotion and feeling was conveyed when the main character decides to go back home. We need more movies like Cruzando.
