Though the film is considered by writer/director Michael R. Shea to be a sequel to 'The Cross at the Gem' is bears no connection or reference to the first film other than the existence of The Detective. Shea said in an interview "It's a spiritual sequel, of sorts. We set up the character in the first film and the world he lives in, now we're getting to see just how good at his job he really is."
