I feel fortunate to have started as a little seedling during 1980s Horror, but it was something special to grow into my own fandom of Horror in the 1990s. I’ve been sitting on this one for a while. I Know What You Did Last Summer (watch it Here) might not have been the pinnacle of 90s horror, but it sure as hell left an impression. This movie often gets overshadowed and overlooked, yet it deserves a higher spot among 90s teen slashers. Whether it’s a nostalgic rewatch or a first-time viewing, I Know What You Did Last Summer remains a must-see for its perfect mix of 90s charm, genuine scares, and timeless appeal.

Based very loosely on Lois Duncan’s novel of the same name, I Know What You Did Last Summer was brought to life in 1997 by director Jim Gillespie and writer Kevin Williamson, fresh off his success with Scream.

Rumer Willis has boarded director Rohit Karn Batra’s gun crisis drama, The Gun on Second Street.

The indie, which already stars Poppy Delevingne and Tom Arnold, follows two Pittsburgh police partners and best friends called to an uneventful domestic violence dispute on Second Street. A violent scuffle quickly ensues as officer Tj Meadows III accidentally shoots and kills his partner, officer Kevin Cooper, with his backup gun.

Years later, no longer a cop and still traumatized, Meadows moves back to Pittsburgh and finds his way to Kevin’s widow, Kacie. Willis will play the role of Ashley Pullman, Meadow’s former partner with whom she shares a son.

The Gun on Second Street is produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films, with Rikin Shah executive producing.

While Prom Night’s ending might be predictable, the slasher remake still tells viewers a lot about the state of the horror subgenre back in the mid-‘00s. 1980’s original Prom Night was released at the height of the post-Halloween slasher boom and even starred the iconic scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. As such, it comes as no surprise that 2008’s remake Prom Night arrived amidst a spate of slasher remakes as filmmakers in the mid-‘00s scrambled to reboot, reinvent, and rewrite the many classic horror movies of the early ‘80s. Prom Night arrived after 2006’s Black Christmas and before 2008’s Sorority Row.

However, while the original Prom Night was not Jamie Lee Curtis’ best horror movie, it was still a lot better than 2008’s remake with Prom Night (2008) receiving brutal reviews upon release. The 2008 Prom Night's slasher story is disarmingly simple compared to others in the genre.

A series premiere, a long-awaited season return and a bevy of great movies are new on HBO and HBO Max this month. May 1 marks the series debut of “White House Plumbers,” the new limited series from “Veep” showrunner David Mandel that chronicles the Watergate break-in and fallout. That show airs on HBO and will stream on HBO Max. Then on May 4, the comedy “The Other Two” returns for its third season on HBO Max.

The sixth season of the animated series “Rick and Morty” will be available to stream on HBO Max starting on May 11, and in terms of library titles the “Men in Black” trilogy, the comedies “Step Brothers” and “Some Like It Hot” and Jonah Hill’s directorial debut “Mid90s” all come to HBO and HBO Max this month.

Wait a minute, you might be asking, isn’t HBO Max supposed to be “Max” now? How then, am I seeing a list of HBO Max new releases for May 2023? Well spotted, dear reader. Warner Bros. Discovery did indeed recently reveal that it would be rebranding its combined HBO Max and Discovery+ streaming service as just Max. As the company notes in its press release for May though, that change doesn’t take effect until May 23. What follows is a list of everything coming to HBO Max through May 22.

The biggest releases this month are two TV series that arrive at the beginning of May. White House Plumbers is a comedic take on the infamous Watergate scandal starring Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux. That will be followed by season 3 of The Other Two, which I personally consider the funniest show on television. Catch up now before it’s too late!

HBO Max will officially be replaced by Warner Bros. Discovery on May 23 with a new and improved service called Max. However, that doesn’t mean the service is scrimping on content until then. One of the biggest new releases of the month is the new limited series “White House Plumbers,” which will premiere on May 1. Starring Woody Harrelson as E. Howard Hunt and Justin Theroux as G. Gordon Liddy, the pair portray two real-life Watergate burglars and Nixon saboteurs who ended up destroying the very president they desperately wanted to serve.

The April additions to Pluto TV’s programming library are split between nature programs and horror flicks.

The streamer will debut the PBS Nature channel later this month, taking viewers on a global voyage and highlighting eco-causes, such as Earth Day. Docs including “Building Green” and “Earth in 1000 Years.”

Also, since April is halfway to Halloween, Pluto is doing everything it can to scare the pants off viewers early. The new channel “April Ghouls” has an array of terror, including “Scream 1-3.” The franchise’s first film, “Scream” stars Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, Drew Barrymore, and David Arquette.

The franchise includes six films; the first four were directed by Wes Craven. The saga begins with murderers known as Ghostface, who stalk and kill their victims.

Titles like Pieces, Black Christmas, and The Dorm That Dripped Blood get more frequent mentions when discussing pre-90s sorority or dormitory slashers. Remake debates rarely include Sorority Row in their reassessments of unfairly stigmatized 2000s horror revamps based on nostalgia biases (among other reasons). After a seemingly innocent prank goes horribly wrong, a group of sorority sisters are stalked and murdered one by one in their sorority house while throwing a party to celebrate their graduation. The House On Sorority Row is a prototypical slasher movie in which a bevy of beautiful sorority girls are diced and sliced and all because of something that happened 20 years previously. It’s a suitably sleazy creep-fest and a lot of fun.

The monsters on campus aren’t quite as scary as those in Black Christmas or Sorority Row, but they’re nonetheless an insidious presence in Master, as discriminatory remnants at a tony longtime girls’ school’s past continue to haunt the lives of modern students. This first feature from writer-director Mariama Diallo has a veneer of intelligence, class and noble purpose that separates it from most films about a “haunted” anything. Unfortunately, despite its brainy dialogue and sometimes comic approach, the film is also preachy and obvious in its point-making, which will go down well with the like-minded but might feel heavy-handed and familiar to others. Mvd is showing some love to The House on Sorority Row and Mortuary (1983) with Special Edition Blu-rays, and Cauldron Films is resurrecting The Crimes of the Black Cat and Beyond Terror in HD as well. As far as new horror goes, Arrow Films has put together a stellar home release for Threshold, Scream Factory is releasing Dark Spell on both formats, and if you haven't had a chance to check out A Nightmare Wakes yet, Rlje Films has you covered.

Other releases for July 6th include Scott Pilgrim vs. the World 4K, Doors, Medusa, Claw, Hell’s Bells, Scarecrow County and Sharks of the Corn.

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.

Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! It’s just that, outside of the library titles, there isn’t much to go off of.

Hulu’s only major original release this month is the FX on Hulu production American Horror Stories on July 15. As its name implies, the show is a spinoff of American Horror Story and will feature self-contained horror episodes rather than a season-long arc. For years now, writer Simon Barrett has been involved with several of my favorite modern horrors, including You’re Next, the criminally underappreciated Blair Witch (2016), and A Horrible Way to Die, as well as The Guest. But now, Barrett is branching out creatively, directing his first feature Seance, which follows a group of young women at an elite prep school who are being murdered by a mysterious entity after a prank amongst several of the students goes horribly wrong.

During the recent press day for Seance, I had the opportunity to speak with Barrett about his directorial debut, and we also dug into some of our own geeky tendencies as horror fans throughout our conversation. Barrett also discussed the inspirations behind the story of Seance, the importance of being good to your characters when you’re writing and/or directing, working with his incredible cast, and more.

The Bloodhound Release: "Arrow Video will release Patrick Picard’s debut feature The Bloodhound in the US and UK on VOD on March 15th, and BluRay on March 22nd, 2021

First-time feature director Patrick Picard brings a fresh take to one of the best-known stories from the master of mystery and the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher, in his new slow-burner horror-thriller The Bloodhound, a hauntingly atmospheric tale described by The Hollywood News as “an impressively stylish and intellectual debut”.

Francis, a dispossessed young man, is summoned to the secluded home of his wealthy childhood friend, Jp Luret, who is suffering from a mysterious affliction. Upon his arrival, Francis realizes that Jp and his ethereal twin sister Vivian are the sole surviving members of the privileged Luret family, whose legacy has been one of depression and self-destruction, and the only occupants of their family estate.

Carrie Fisher had a role as Anna Fowler on “Entourage” in 2010 on the episode titled “Tequila and Coke.”

“Family Guy”

Fisher voiced the character of Mon Mothma on a “Family Guy” Star Wars parody special in 2010.

“Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle”

Fisher wasn’t just a badass on “Star Wars,” she played one on “Charlie’s Angels” too–kind of. She played the role of Mother Superior, a nun at a monastery.

Carrie Fisher‘s versatility knows no bounds. She played the role of Bianca in the horror film “Scream 3” in 2000.

We might be seeing a pattern with the whole nun thing. Fisher played one in “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back” in 2001.

“30 Rock”

Fisher also made a cameo on “30 Rock” as Rosemary Howard in the episode titled “Rosemary’s Baby” in 2007. She played a writer who was Pete’s idol.

We Summon The Darkness (2019)

Alexandra Daddario stars in this rollicking Satanic panic horror thriller, about a trio of female heavy metal fans who, during an after party in a secluded mansion, dabble in deviltry and literally raise Hell. At one point Daddario says to a man telling her to be careful, “You don’t think we can fend for ourselves?” You go girl!

Who knew Vince Vaughn would be the perfect actor to portray a 2020 version of Tess Coleman, the body swap role that earned Jamie Lee Curtis a Golden Globe nomination for Freaky Friday? Probably only Vaughn himself, who turns in a brilliantly campy performance in Christopher Landon’s body swap horror flick Freaky.

Landon’s best known for merging Groundhog Day with House on Sorority Row in Happy Death Day (as well as writing and directing its sequel). Fans of that movie will recognize a similar approach here, too: mix Freaky Friday with Friday the 13th and you get…Freaky Friday the 13th?

When The Hills: New Beginnings returns for Season 2, Mischa Barton will not be a part of the cast.

TMZ broke the news, noting that The Oc alum did not bring enough to the reboot to return.

“Our sources say producers found Mischa’s story line a bit bland, and her personality a little boring,” TMZ reported.

“Bottom line, she wasn’t bringing much drama to the show.”

While everyone else is expected to return for Season 2, Brody Jenner reportedly landed a lucrative deal that will see him earn around $50k per episode.

It's unclear how much the rest of the cast is paid, but given that the show's popularity pales in comparison to its predecessor, it's likely nowhere near that much.

Barton struck a chord with viewers for opening up about her highly publicized past, including her feud with Perez Hilton.

Hulu is out with its list of all the content that’s coming and going to the streaming service in February.

Highlights include the series premiere of Zoë Kravitz’s “High Fidelity” reboot, coming on Valentine’s Day, in which she stars as a record store owner in a gentrified Brooklyn neighborhood, revisiting past relationships through music and trying to get over her one true love. Her character was played by John Cusack in the 2000 film, and both are based on Nick Hornby’s 1995 novel of the same name.

There is also a new episode of “Into the Dark” titled “My Valentine,” which will be released on Feb. 7, in which a pop singer’s ex-boyfriend and manager steals her songs and gives them to his new protégé.

Season 1 of Hulu Original “Utopia Falls” comes out Feb.

Hulu is providing some action-packed options next month for those looking for a switch-up on holiday cheer.

The streaming service will debut “Reprisal,” a hyper-noir story that follows a relentless femme fatale (Abigail Spencer) who, after being left for dead, sets out to take revenge against her brother and his bombastic gang of gearheads. It also launches Season 3 of “Marvel’s Runaways” on Dec. 13. If that wasn’t enough, several movies from the “Fast & Furious” franchise are hitting Hulu, plus both “Kill Bill: Volume 1” and “Kill Bill: Volume 2.”

Those dedicated to consuming holiday-only content can watch NBC’s “Holidays With the Houghs” with Julianne and Derek Hough, a song-and-dance performance show featuring special guest artist performances. Ellen DeGeneres will also be giving gifts with the help of celebrity friends on her “Ellen’s Greatest Night of Giveaways” special.

Hulu is out with its monthly list of everything coming and going. This December, new additions include Season 6 of “Younger,” two new episodes of “Into the Dark,” and Season 3 of “Marvel’s Runaways.”

According to Hulu’s description, here’s what’s going on in the the new season of “Younger”: “After Liza lands her dream job by posing as a millennial, she realizes that the truth is much better than fiction.” That’s out Dec. 3.

Season 3 of “Marvel’s Runaways,” in which the Runaways search for their captured friends, is out Dec. 13.
