To begin with, the premise of "Punch Lady" stretches credibility to the limit: a person (forget the gender here) with absolutely no fighting training or experience publicly challenges a professional fighter, and champion (!), who just killed his latest opponent inside the ring, to a fight in the ring three months later, and the fight is allowed to go on? Officially? With a ref, huge crowds and everything? With the risk of the amateur's permanent injury or even death ignored? Now add the fact that the challenger is a woman who also happens to be the fighter's frequently abused wife, and you get the basic idea of "Punch Lady". But it seems that the filmmakers want to have their cake and eat it too: unpleasant dramatic scenes mix uncomfortably with broad attempts at comedy, while the film spends way too little time on the actual training of the heroine that would make the situation somewhat more believable. Even the climactic ring fight is not very well shot - too many cut-aways and weird angles. What holds the movie together is the female lead, who is very charming, can do drama, AND can throw a pretty damn good kick when she's allowed to, which is not nearly often enough. ** out of 4.

By western standards this film may seem to strain credibility quite a bit, but if the viewer is willing to cast aside cultural differences and make an effort to view it from an eastern perspective, it is really an exceptional movie. To the western viewer, even the best Asian films can often seem overly demonstrative, and often require more suspension of disbelief than Americans are used to giving movies. But even if you don't have an experiential or academic understanding of eastern cultures, if you just make a little effort to open yourself to a broader artistic approach and acknowledge that moments that may initially seem awkward are actually quite poignant when considered from an Asian cultural perspective, it truly is a moving, human, and even funny cinematic experience. I loved it! Ji-Won To is fantastic as the "Punch Lady!" She is sympathetic, warm, charming, funny, and genuinely likable, and demonstrates great range as an actress here.

I did not know what to expect from this movie.
One trailer I had seen concentrated on the wife abuse whereas a second trailer I saw tried to concentrate on the comedy.
It's not a funny move though.
They try to add comedy to it but it falls fairly flat. But It's a movie about spousal abuse, you don't even realize that there were funny bits put in.
Great Movie, the main actress and the daughter are incredible in the movie.
There are completely unrealistic events in the movie. But without them, no movie.
And I enjoyed this movie completely.

I'm a Guy From India...I used to admire Korean peoples a lot..for the making unlike Hollywood movies they r really sick now and wish that Oscars has to be banned cause its not worthy for their movies and making styles wish they should learn from Korean peoples...anyway its an different issue coming to the movie...
When i started watching this film...The first thing i noticed was the professional work of the director. This film is beautiful shot; lightning, camera etc. Sound and music were great, and the action sequences or really well done and very solid. The second thing is the surprising good acting of the entire cast.Everything felt very natural.and realistic its kinda o fantasy but it was really well done by the director really a hats off to him..we expect a lot of movies like this from u....
The story of "Punch Lady" has much more content and value; discussing, for example, the issues and problems of every girl in this society..
Every guy has to watch this movie and they should change! I really recommend this one!...
