You know that feeling when you venture down an unsuspecting alley, but not the brooding and foreboding type, but one that evokes a sense of mystery and intrigue, only to discover a gem so unique and precious, you lose track of all time and space. Titoudao shines with inflections of sorrow, frustration, betrayal and hope. Supported by an excellent cast, Koe Yeet gives a stellar performance as the famous Wayang star, Ah Chiam, an opera performer in the 50s and 60's. It explores the human condition in the face of adversity, conveying the palpable reality of life's struggles, and how through discipline, family, loyalty and love, nothing is insurmountable. Titoudao is like a warm bowl of home made chicken soup for the soul, or should I say laksa in this case. It will gnaw at your heart, it will make you angry, make you cry, and yearn for justice. A refreshing and charming tale that will stay with you long after the credits roll. Bravo.
