It's probably exactly what you expect..Rarely do films actually 'Surprise!' you these days...with all the hype given to any movie (regardless of how odd or bad) with a large budget, you get an idea of the movie...especially after a few reviews, what your friends say, and so on and so on....Well the same goes for these movies...the one's you 'Don't' hear about...You don't see the 'stars making the rounds on all thee late night talk shows, promoting their newest flick (& always pretending they have 'no-idea' what the clip is they brought with them)...So these films end up in the usual places...the bargain bins, the blockplaces will have a single copy (usually) and then there's Redbox...who unlike most places, let's you know upfront they have a mixture of the the best movies as they're released and tell you honestly that they have some genuine 'B'- movies...So, yeah, rent this one if you like sci-fi flicks, realizing it was done on a less than stellar budget and cut everyone involved with it some slack...The great thing about it is 'You might just find a real gem' among the 'B'-Movies available, but don't expect it...This has some good points and some low spots...But then again, keep in mind it had a 'B' budget too...

Rarely do I review movies but in this case I felt compelled to warn others. The movie began promisingly enough but rapidly lost itself in a convoluted plot that built up to an anti-climax. The premise for the movie could have been used to much greater effect, I felt like about 3/4 the way into the movie it became very rushed and the climax (if you could call it that) left me disappointed. The special effects, while not great, were interesting and the costumes were quite stunning. The acting was a bit corny but I did like the leading character until the very end when the whole movie dropped itself into the toilet. Stay away at all costs!

I gave this movie 2 stars - one for the special effects and such, there are a lot of those, although not the best I saw, its decent, and one for being a bit more original story than most movies now-days.
However this is where the good ends pretty much - all actors were amateurs, the storyline, while interesting - was inconsistent, and hard to get its "feel", even though a lot of time was spent at the opening, displaying a time-line of events - too bad it wasn't elaborate and detailed introduction.
Overall - get 80 minutes of extra sleep rather than see this movie, is my recommendation :)

This is my first "review" ever, not to review a nice movie, but to warn all you people out there NOT to watch this piece of crap! You'd rather help your wife vacuumcleaning the house or wash the dishes or something than waste your precious time on this masterpiece of fail. I saw the DVD at the merchandise of a manowar concert, since neil johnson did some manowar videos. The cover looked nice, so did the title but I think instinct told me not to spend my precious money on it. After some time I started to regret my decision and started searching the net for it, months passed before I found it and with time my expectations probably got a little high. The day had finally come to drop down on the couch with a good friend of mine, fridge full of beer, big bag of quality pot on the table, and put the nice shining silver disc into the player... what happened next were probably the worst approximately 90 minutes of my life! An intro which took much too long, however giving some expectations of a good film, and after that 80minutes of really, really bad acting; so bad you would be glad to watch series like 'as the world turns' and 'the bold and the beautiful' just to see the smooth playing of the characters! For the budget I think the special effects were OK, accually I think the total budget was spent on it and none was left to make a movie of it. My whole story summarized: anything, really anything you can imagine to do is better than spending time in watching this movie!! And Johnson should quit wasting his time on making crap movies instead he should put his time back in what he's doing best: making great videoclips for true metal warriors!!
I like sci-fi. I also like trashy sci-fi as long as there is some redeeming qualities. But I don't like trash and unfortunately that is all I can call this movie. I actually enjoyed Battlefield Earth a lot more than this and I rarely regret having watched something, even when it's that bad. It boggles the mind how they could screw it up this much, since the background story is not that bad, post-human races behaving like alien invaders, I like that. Special effects are OK, and the locations, costumes, and make-up are also decent. I'm even willing to believe the actors could come off better. It's just a terrible, terrible script, where the characters are constantly sitting around discussing tedious personal (mushy) subjects while the genocide of the human race is supposedly going on. And the fact that the main character is Han Solo like Don Johnson would have portrayed him does not help at all. This could have been in Serenity-range, instead it's making Battlefield Earth look good. This is what Uwe Boll would make if someone (god forbid) got him to do a sci-fi movie. This is Mortal Kombat 2 bad.
Bad acting, bad script, not too bad CGI, laughable, but in the wrong way...
This movie rates as one of the worst sci-fi movies I have ever watched, it's only saving grace is the cgi which at times can be quite good, Neil Johnson the director must either have been on some mind altering drug or be just plain incompetent to allow the final result to go to the cutting room (where it all should have been cut). Jay Laisne who plays (and I use the term reservedly) the bungling captain Derasi Vorde is not only crushingly bad and unbelievable but also wooden and his childlike acting would not be out of place in a children's TV program.
The plot is boring and predictable, yet another species out to exterminate the human race to become dominant species in the universe (surely there are other more advanced races out there to concentrate on).
I thought it was a comedy when I first started watching it and had a laugh at it, but as the movie droned on I realised it was not meant to be funny and the laughter turned to cringing at every bad dialogue exchange, the idea of the last human being in existence is a fair one but this time it was done very badly and just does not ring true.
Sorry but unless you are at a loss to get to sleep at night do not watch this, but if you suffer from insomnia then by all means watch it.... you will be sleeping in no time at all.

I do enjoy Sci-Fi movies when they're done right. Humanity's End did have some good ideas going for it, and is a better movie than I expected it to be if suffering from some very big problems. Technically it's not too bad, I've seen far worse looking films especially from The Asylum. The sets are colourful, the galactic backgrounds are wholly convincing, the ships, their interiors and the planets look cool and the photography is not too choppy. The film at least has some kind of pace(if not particularly exciting), it starts very promisingly and the females are very cute and sexy. Unfortunately while there are far worse out there, the graphics can be quite bad, the nephalium fleet doesn't look remotely convincing and the movements can look unnatural. The explosions are too diluted and somewhat outdated as well. The acting is not particularly good either, the sexiness of the females isn't enough to disguise their blandness and the lead, especially his voice, is really annoying. Their characters don't engage at all, and often act like idiots. But what really sinks Humanity's End is how poor the writing is. The script is made up too much of cheesy humour and jargon that definitely sounds made up which confuses things significantly. The story has some good ideas, that are either never expanded upon or don't make any sense and there isn't really much of a structure either. Overall, decent to look at but poorly written, had much potential but could've been much better. 4/10 Bethany Cox

With a $10 dollar budget and a 6 pack of beer, could have made something better in a McDonalds. As for acting ability. Small ego boost for Someone with less than no charm and Zero talent. Credit to the sfx guys And the female cast that managed to put up with this dribble. With respect... please don't make another picture

Not many known actors however their acting was better then most and they were actually funny in some scenes and the acting was believable, This actors could make better movies with a better budget. The movie itself was a nice spin on Erich Von Däniken ideas and they used all the latest scientific findings. I love documentary's about long dead people that's how I found out at first we had Neanderthal DNA, So we didn't kill them as was thought before, our genes did by crossbreeding. So they used all the latest facts, but I won't mention them because I don't want to spoil the movie. The movie itself wasn't more expensive then 2 Stargate episodes however I prefer some of the effects in this movie, not all just some, you understand when you see it.
I was really expecting some crap but this was entertaining and I even shed a tear in the end, it was quite moving your not human if you can hold a straight face.
I give it a 10 because a nine feels to little and I can't really complain about anything, if the actors were more famous and the movie were more expensive it could be a real Hit. It was something of a accident that I saw the movie but it was a really nice surprise, it saved my evening. A few laughable names but you can survive it. Give this movie a chance you'll be surprised.........
It kind of feels like your watching a Stargate episode, however there are some different ideas and the Von Däniken spin also changes some.....

This movie is kind of entertaining for the sci-fi fan. It has many references to other Sci-Fi creations, including Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Battle Star Galatcia and Dune. In fact the film must assume many of the users are familiar with many of these Stories as elements of each are used throughout. For instance Stargates are used both with no explanation of what for. The film is scattered with cheesy humor, that gives it much charm. The start of the movie features a 5+ minute prologue, which in part seems to be put in to extend the movie length. Don't see it to be blown away by special effects. See it when you are in the mood for some grade B Sci-fi.
Humanity's End is literally one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It has a nearly incomprehensible plot, what little there is of it, about a future where there are constructs, neanderthals, nephilim, and biobots, robots, and regular humans. There is some war or something, and some groups fighting other groups. The story seems to revolve around a ship called the Blue Whale, or something like that, which looks a lot like a WW2 German Uboat on steroids.
There are space ships, gun fights, bombs, and explosions, all done is very poor special effects and with almost no meaning at all to what is happening. There also is a sperm carrying teddy bear. I kid you not.
The acting is very bad, but the script is worse. The extremely long and boring intro to the movie goes through some "lost history" of humanity. It is so convoluted and bizarre that it is not easily followed.
The characters are uneven and some suddenly change attitudes and styles right in the middle of the movie, without any explanation??!?? Truly poorly done.
I would give the movie zero stars, but that was not an option.
The only positive thing I can say about Humanity's End is that some of the background music was nice.

I had to laugh when previewing my review, given all of the criticisms I've listed, you would think I didn't actually LIKE this film, but I did. This is NOT the worst movie ever, not at all, but you have to bear with me (and with the movie) to get to the "good" parts. If you are that kind of movie-watcher, you can enjoy this film, if not well...then take a pass. Not sure? If you can read through my list of complaints all the way down to the POSITIVE points, then you could very well enjoy this film as well as I did.
While admittedly a mixed bag: special effects are cheap--something you might have seen in the 80's! On top of that, the editing is sometimes jarring or even just bizarre- - particularly as it spends far too much time focusing on those same distressingly undeveloped effects. It's obviously an extremely low budget film, and this editing choice makes that much more obvious. One of the other things that really hurts the film from the very start is the extremely loooooooooong voice over introduction which sets the setting for the story (and they don't even bother with their cheap special effects while they do it--other than an awful (particularly irritating) electronic voice modulator. Jeez! Show, don't tell! It really spoils the movie (and sets it up for failure) by boring the audience before the story even gets started. If absolutely necessary (given budget restraints) it certainly could have been edited to it's most salient points.
If you don't care about the back story then just fast-forward through that part, I don't think it will hurt the movie that much if you do, but it will dump you into the middle of a conflict that might not make much sense--just trust me, there is a reason for what they do, even if (a big if!) it is supposed to make sense within the context of the history they set up for the story.
Frankly as far as I was concerned, this didn't really help the plot anyway, so I'd just skip it. After all, wars are seemingly a part of human nature, so it doesn't seem that much of a stretch to assume even altered humans (supposedly "advanced" humans) would continue to stir up (or even thrive on) conflict and even enslavement. Just depends on if you can enjoy the story without context. Most of what happens will make sense without the history, though parts at the end might not without context. Since I DID watch the intro, I can't really tell you, though I think there are enough hints scattered through the story to help. Fair warning.
The creature/alien human costume(s) (if you can call it that) was just bizarre and out of place for a supposedly advanced form of human. It didn't make sense. Fortunately there are few of those, and the rest of the costuming didn't stand out--which in this case is a good thing. The sets also didn't stand out--but seemed logical for the time and place. Props: I had to laugh at the use of one of their big assed guns as the actress waved it around as if it was made out of plastic and weighed nothing. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it. Not likely, even in the future. Fortunately there are few moments like these, and again, they don't particularly stand out-- which in this case is a compliment.
The music however, DID stand out, and not in a good way; it didn't help at all (especially when combined with the poor editing, overly long intro, and the other problems I've mentioned). The music was jarring yet boringly generic--not particularly loud, just inappropriate-- or even too sacchrine for the moment. It just didn't fit and by taking your attention away from the film made the other problems just that more obvious.
On the other hand, While the overall plot wasn't particularly original, and the acting was sometimes hit and miss (I think it was more a failure of editing and direction than of the actors--mostly editing); the dialogue (forget the intro) and the main actors interjected appropriate nuance to their (almost) fully-fleshed characters (not the usual cardboard cut-out stereotypes which was a nice change-- especially for such a low budget film), and were pretty decent (if not Oscar material). While the overall plot wasn't particularly original, the characters were recognizable without being generic. Parts of the dialogue certainly raised the caliber of the film above the norm, and the characterizations (including the hints of backstory) made them interesting and relatable. Most of all I liked the interaction between the characters and their actions were consistent within the storyline, without being generically predictable. It's the characters and how the actors played them that saved this film.
Overall I enjoyed the movie, even with it's flaws. Definitely NOT the worst movie ever--it's certainly not a "must see", but not as bad as some of the reviewers suggest. Believe me, I"ve seen FAR worse. Take it for what it is and you can enjoy it.

I don't really think so. Too bad they don't have negative star ratings. It might qualify for a minus 8 or minus 9! Unknown actors. Poor acting. Lousy special effects. After watching the first five minutes, I wanted to turn it off. But I told myself to watch it longer and give it a chance. After another minute, my wife said ENOUGH! I can't stand it. So off it went. Thank God!

Why it's a whiz-bang romp with tons of fun and loads of laughs as our fast-talking, smarmy funny-man quips his way past the robotoids. Yes, Fire Fly, but not as good, Battlestar Galactica, but cornier; Buck Rogers the TV show, but sillier. A Star Wars thing, but with adultier jokes; which still aren't funny. Valerian and a Thousand Planets; but yeah, adults. The characters needed 70's hair and 90's mullets. Have fun, kids. It's not for me. Later.

I expected this film to be terrible and to be honest the trailers before the film starts were not good. It also took a good half hour to warm up to the "Fire Fly" type camp they attempted in this flick BUT I actually really liked it. I think it's a really fun film that gives great hope to low-budget sci-fi. Sure there's a ton of bad CGI but the story still functions and I actually thought the female lead was great. Congrats guys! This film is very watchable and gives a good jolt of energy to the indie sci-fi. It seems desk top special effects are getting to a point where they are starting to look closer and closer to Hollywood effects.

Considering it's budget I didn't think it was that bad, don't get me wrong, it's not going to win any awards and a lot of people will think it's terrible I expect but it reminded me of all those old movies that tried to cash in on the tail of Star Wars when it first came out like Battle Beyond the Stars.
Perhaps I'm just a sucker for female voiced computers from Nell in BBTS, to Majel Barrett Roddenberry (RIP) voice in Star Trek and now Blue.
The plot was fairly basic, the script was weak and the acting was up and down but overall I still enjoyed it enough to not fall asleep.

Just watched it. 8 out of 10. Really different. First 8 minutes is an explanation of the history up to the year 2800 then it's a kinda b-movie but with great quality. It drifts quite randomly from action,to comedy to drama and human emotion. The ending is indeed sad, but a very good one also if you ask me. The film does well to take into account that we have evolved socially, genetically and of technologically. We find an array of characters, each given an equal dialog to display their dilemmas and beliefs. The captain is indeed a very Han Soloeque man, and with the ability to fire out four letter words, we soon adopt a lot of respect for him. All the supporting roles were good, and the story also not too bad. The special effects are given a lot of screen time, and they are above par to your standard b film.

Sometimes IMDb's comments are quite excessive, you get 10 stars, then another one put 1 star. Most of the time, it worth to watch the movie anyways. But this one.. If you are going to watch this movie, don't expect too much from it. Poor poor poor special effects and discussable acting. It looks like the 80's movies.. This could've been an awesome movie and that's the only reason why I give it 6 stars. With more money and more time, this could've been something awesome! Anyways there is worst, there is better. It's just sad that the producer ain't got a bigger budget. Nevertheless it still worth watching it, just don't expect special effects with high realism or to see your favourite actor.
I grew up in the late 70's, early 80's when Star Wars came out when everybody wanted more movies like that and for a while there was none around. Many of us still remember those B-Movies (and some times Z-Movies) productions that everybody all around the world was trying to create to jump on the success of George Lucas. It was the time of "Galaxina", "Battle Beyond the Stars", "The Humanoid", "Starchaser" and the brilliant "Starcrash" among many other obscure stuff. It was a time where there wasn't yet a new special effects movie opening every weekend and so people were going to all these alternatives trying to get more of the same atmosphere seen in Star Wars.
Now, i just discovered this "Humanity's End" the other day, and i thought i was in for a really, really bad catastrophe movie. The trailer seemed to have something appealing, but at the same time it made the movie look like much worse that actually is. In fact, the only thing real bad on "Humanity's End" it's the tittle !! What a lousy name for such a great little space adventure ! Someone should rename this movie and release it again, because despite being an independent production with lots of flaws and an obvious lack of budget it manages to be one of the most fun and pure Space-Operas out there in the best Doc Smith 30's classic style made with modern a look.
It feels like an imaginative clone of Serenity with all the good fun in place mixed with something like the adventures of Han Solo's red-neck lost cousin with a touch of forbidden archeology themes mixed in it (Zacharia Sitchin/Richard Hoagland/Coast to Coast Radio)and the fact is that everything works perfectly.
"Humanity's End" has a strange feel to it. Lots of "independent" CGI effects that feel like "video-game-plastic" all time but have an excellent graphic style and create a fantastic unique atmosphere through out the story, characters that are as much annoying as they are fun, lots of humor, surprising good and believable drama and a good share of little action scenes which are not very epic to look at but are always a joy to follow. The story is much more imaginative than i would ever expect it to be and i believe that if the movie had at least one hour more to properly develop everything "Humanity's End" could have been as good as the best in Firefly.
In 90 minutes everything seems rushed and the adventure ends extremely fast in an anti-climax that leaves the viewer wanting more. The bad guys have that GOD-like power, wiped out mankind but they're totally destroyed in such a simple way that it disappoints. Come on people... This is where the lack of budget in this movie was more evident. No money to create the epic space-opera battle people are expecting and that the story seems to spend all the movie setting up. But...that's OK.
It's OK, because surprisingly the characters are fun to watch, the dialogues are sometimes hilarious but in the next moment achieve some good little emotional moments and i was surprised to reach the end of this movie caring for those persons (even for the ship's computer). Nobody will ever win an Oscar for their acting here, but we can see the players really are having lots of fun with their characters, particularly "Han Solo's red-neck cousin" which is the lead hero.
To bad this was such a small movie and i would love to see more movies with this characters. Maybe George Lucas will sponsor a new movie as he and Rick McCallun get thanked by the creators of this movie in the end credits. I'm not saying that "Humanity's End" does not have all the flaws that other people who didn't liked the movie mention on their reviews. In my opinion they are not important if you are in a mood to see an old-school space-opera done with imagination. Just leave your brain outside and enjoy "Humanity's End" for what it is. A great little B-Movie space-opera with tons of flaws but lots of personality.
Probably the best ("bad-movie") space-opera i've seen since my all time favorite, the 1979 Italian star-wars clone, "Starcrash". In my opinion "Humanity's End" deserves 10 stars, for fun, atmosphere, being a pure space-opera with tons of personality (and cool sets)and for the courageous twist at the end. If you love Firefly, check it out and you might be surprised. Ignore the bad trailer and the bad hype.

I'm going to give this film high ratings for being more ambitious than the film had the budget for. It was hurried and skipped around too fast - this COULD have been a Babylon 5 type series where you ignore the okay special effects for character, story, and plot. The character acting was forced (the women were all better than the men), but the plot was actually creative and warranted more of a short series than a film. Back story was good and creative as well. Despite this obviously being a low budget film, something makes you want to like this... and I also wonder if they searched for a male lead who sounds like Han Solo. The voice sound actually contributed to a lot of the acceptance of that character... but without the class.
