In the dystopian 2040, a performance artist shots himself dead in front of a live audience. While the extreme act shocks the society, his friend is kidnapped and interrogated as a murder suspect; he has to prove his innocence to survive.

When police officer Alec Fanshawe wakes up and finds himself tied up in a grungy basement, he is forced into an unfriendly interrogation led by two young rebels who accuse him as the murderer of a performance artist, Cy Dietrick. With the threat to experience Cy's death moment from a memory recording machine, Alec has to confess and reveal his friendship with Cy. However, his story doesn't convince the rebels. They call him a liar and initiate the memory machine. Alec has no choice but to relive the past and discover the hidden jigsaw piece in a different perspective.
