"Herb Alpert Is..." is a recent documentary that is probably not going to have the audience it once might have had. This is because in the 1960s, he was on top of the music world, whereas today most people cannot remember him because they were born after he was no longer a chart-topper. Now this does not mean the film might not be enjoyed by everyone...but folks who would seek it out are older viewers, like myself. I remember Albert in his heyday, as my parents loved his music and played it often.
In the mid-1960s, Alpert and his band outsold the Beatles...something hard to imagine today. The film is about this period but also answers the important question...'what has he done since?'. Using a variety of interviews, interviews with Alpert himself and a lot of vintage footage, they tell his story. Overall, it paints the picture of a very artistic man who is beloved...and the film is very lovingly made and makes you like the guy. I wish all documentaries were this well made and packed such a nice impact.
