What Do We Know About the upcoming comic book series Spider-Noir? More thank you may think. The first Sony-produced television series as part of their Spider-man Universe, Spider-Noir, has many fans excited about what the series will be. We know some cool stuff about the upcoming series, from set photos to casting details. So, let’s jump in and discuss.
Nicolas Cage is not playing Peter Parker.
After voicing a version of the character in the animated films Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Across The Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage‘s casting as the Noir version excited people. To differentiate the project from the film adaptation and the various versions of Spider-Man’s alter ego, the series will present a different take on the Noir hero by making him someone other than the character played by Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, or Tobey Maguire in live-action. Spider-Man fans, there’s a snag in the web! The upcoming Spider-Man Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage, has been paused due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.

While the show was on track to be a hit, wildfires have forced the cast and crew to take a break. This means we might be waiting a little longer to see Spider-Man swinging through an alternate version of 1930s New York City.
So, what does this pause mean for the show’s future? Let’s dive into the details and uncover what’s really happening behind the scenes of Spider-Man Noir.

The superhero landscape of Marvel is coming with a noir twist as Nicolas Cage plunges into New York in the 1930s. It will be the first time that Spider-Man Noir will be moving from animation to live-action. Cage, who has already voiced the character in Sony’s Spider-Verse series, is now going to introduce this version of the superhero in MGM+’s upcoming series.

The series is set to offer a superhero action genre mixed with the noir detective drama. As shooting has already begun last year, fans have caught the first look at Cage in costume, and one thing is clear: what’s on the way will not only be a memorable chapter in Cage’s career but also in Spider-Man’s on-screen adaptations.

What’s old is new again, as Marvel Studios plans for the future of its cinematic universe. After announcing that Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans would return for surprise roles in Avengers: Doomsday, a new rumor from industry leaker Daniel Richtman suggests Scarlett Johansson could also reprise her role as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, for the upcoming superhero event film. Technically, Johansson’s character died while sacrificing herself to obtain the Soul Stone in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Still, when has that stopped Marvel from rewriting history to tell a new story?
Johnasson’s return to the MCU is a curious proposal. Following a dispute with Disney about the Black Widow solo film, she repeatedly said that she had no plans to play Black Widow again. However, time heals many wounds, and getting the band back together (plus a lucrative payday) could entice Johansson to suit up. While Downey...

Spider-Noir will be the last entry in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe for the foreseeable future, and I’m actually excited by how that’ll affect the show. When Marvel regained the rights to Spider-Man, that meant that Sony wouldn’t be allowed to depict the hero in a way that would conflict. Instead, the studio has built its own Spider-Man Universe without the titular hero, but with characters who have a close association with him instead. The Ssu released three films just this year alone, but unfortunately to mostly negative reception.
Morbius, Madame Web, Kraven the Hunter, and the Venom trilogy all received mixed to negative reviews. The lack of success with the Ssu films led Sony to the decision to discontinue the franchise for now. However, there will still be one more release in this shared universe. The television series Spider-Noir following Nicholas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir is currently in production,...

Sony's Marvel animation, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, recently received a release update that I'm happy about, knowing that it avoids a major trilogy mistake committed by other franchises. Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the long-awaited finale to Sony's celebrated Spider-Verse franchise. After Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse earned significant acclaim for Sony, the trilogy remains a bastion for Spider-Man fans' faith in the studio in the wake of Sony's Spider-Man Universe collapsing. Unsurprisingly, this means that anticipation for the threequel is at a fever pitch as fans clamor for updates on its release date.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse was released in 2023, which isn't that long ago in the grand scheme of superhero movie release schedules. Nevertheless, fans were teased with a 2024 release date early in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's production, which has since been postponed. While I'm not shocked that the sequel's...

Despite a less-than-stellar opening for ‘Kraven the Hunter’ and a series of underperforming spin-offs, Sony’s commitment to its Marvel films isn’t waning just yet.
According to Variety, ‘Kraven,’ starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and his impressive physique, features a significant nod to Spider-Man, marking the closest encounter between the characters in recent Sony adaptations.
This pattern is evident in the studio’s other Marvel releases like ‘Morbius’ and ‘Madame Web,’ which have also struggled at the box office.
Sony has never fully embraced a unified narrative for its Marvel characters, unlike the tightly interwoven stories of the MCU or the revamped DC Universe. This scattered approach may be contributing to the lackluster performance of its films.
Nevertheless, Sony has seen considerable success with its ‘Venom’ series, headlined by Tom Hardy, which has amassed over $1.8 billion globally.

Towards the end of Sony Picture’s newest Marvel movie “Kraven the Hunter,” the titular anti-hero — played with maximum abdominal musculature by Aaron Taylor-Johnson — experiences a chilling hallucination in which he’s surrounded by a horde of spiders. It is a clear allusion to the character’s greatest nemesis in the Marvel comics, Spider-Man.
It is also almost certainly the closest the character will ever get to confronting the web-slinger.
“Kraven” is projected to take in one of the lowest-ever opening weekends for a Marvel superhero film, making it the third of Sony Pictures’ unsuccessful attempts to spin-off a secondary Spider-Man character into its own movie franchise, following 2022’s “Morbius” with Jared Leto and last February’s “Madame Web” with Dakota Johnson. The looming box office failure almost certainly signifies the end of this endeavor at the studio, which one knowledgeable insider at Sony imputed to an industry-wide “irrational exuberance...

Erstwhile Boardwalk Empire star Jack Huston makes his debut as a feature film writer/director with Day of the Fight, a heartfelt indie drama that follows a disgraced boxer, Irish Mike (Michael C. Pitt), on the day of his big comeback bout at Madison Square Garden. Shot in New York City in glorious black and white, Day of the Fight succeeds thanks to its tight script, which slowly peels back the layers surrounding Irish Mike, his past, and his relationships with his friends and family, and an outstanding supporting cast, including Nicolette Robinson, Ron Perlman, Steve Buscemi, John Magaro, and Joe Pesci.
While Day of the Fight marks Jack Huston's debut as a feature film writer and director, he demonstrates an outstanding command of visual language, enhanced by his heart-wrenching script. Clearly, he was paying attention during his career as an actor.

Sony’s latest installment of their Spider-Man shared universe, Venom: The Last Dance, was released this past weekend with a somewhat disappointing opening. While the film is doing well in terms of audience reviews, the film’s domestic box office earnings fell below the expected numbers.
Originally believed to draw in anywhere between $65 – $70 million, the film instead drew in only $51 million. The first film in 2018 drew in $80 million in its first three-day weekend domestically while the 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage drew in $90 million. This marks the franchise’s lowest opening weekend in the United States.
While it is true that combined with the international market’s $124 million, the current total is $176 million, it still shows that the franchise’s staying power might not be as big as it once was. However, the box office may pick up with positive word of mouth.

The overall popularity of Spider-Man as a character is something that we need not doubt. He is, by most accounts, he is the most popular comic book superhero of all time. The fact that the character has so far received a total of ten solo movies with another one on the way confirms all of this.
But, it’s not just that. Spider-Man and his variants have been featured in numerous other media, with some of the variants becoming as popular as the main character. One of those variants is Spider-Man Noir, who is, as you probably know, getting his own solo series soon.
Nicolas Cage will be reprising his animated role from the Spider-Verse films, now in live-action format. The first images from the filming have leaked online, and there is only one common conclusion here – the fans are absolutely in love with the new live-action Spider-Man and they...

As the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to expand, adapting bigger and bolder storylines to live-action, Sony too is moving ahead with its Spider-Man Universe. Having access to some 900 or so characters related to the fan-favorite web-slinger, the studio is now moving to the small screen to bring yet another story to live-action.

Starring Nicolas Cage, the studio has been developing the series Spider-Noir for quite some time now, and the first looks of the series were recently leaked. Reprising his role from the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse, this time in live-action, fans are excited and waiting eagerly for the series.
Despite Sony’s track record of Marvel flicks (other than the Spider-Verse movies) being, bluntly stating, terrible, the prospect of seeing Cage as the live version of his character does seem alluring. So, without further ado, here is all we know about the latest and upcoming series.

Nicolas Cage was spotted on the set of Spider-Noir earlier this month but wasn’t in his Spidey costume at the time. Thankfully, our first look at the live-action Spider-Man Noir costume has arrived, thanks to a handful of set photos. There’s also a video that showcases a stunt sequence in which Spider-Noir is perched atop a vehicle while shooting webs. You’ll have to view that through the link. Given the nature of the scene, it’s not Cage in the costume but rather a stunt double.

Given that it's being developed by Sony, there's been some concern among fans that Amazon's Spider-Noir series starring Nicolas Cage might not see the title character actually suit up.
Peter Parker has already been replaced by Ben Reilly as Spider-Man Noir, but newly revealed photos and footage from the show's set confirm we're getting a comic-accurate take on the wall-crawling private detective.
The hero looks like he's stepped straight off the page with a design that's also pretty much identical to what we saw in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
Based on how this scene is playing out, Ben will see a fair bit of action as he rides atop a car while shooting webs into the distance. He also has his trademark hat and goggles, though we should point out that it's a stuntman in the suit, not Cage.

Despite a string of box office failures, Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (Ssu) continues to thrive with numerous projects in the pipeline. Venom: The Last Dance is set to premiere next week, followed by Kraven the Hunter in December, while Spider-Man Noir is currently being developed for Amazon.

Hot on the heels of Max's series "The Penguin," another comic book character is getting his own TV show full of rain-soaked city streets and chiaroscuro lighting. After making his voice debut as Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse," Nicolas Cage is making the leap to live-action in "Spider-Noir." The series is currently filming, and it's set to premiere on MGM+ and Prime Video some time next year. "22 Jump Street" co-writer Oren Uziel and "The Punisher" creator Steve Lightfoot are serving as showrunners.
The need to protect plot secrets has confined a lot of comic book shows to working in studios or in remote locations unlikely to be haunted by paparazzi. "Spider-Noir" however, has taken directly to the streets of Los Angeles (which are doubling as the streets of New York), which means we now have our first look at Nicolas Cage in Spider-Man Noir's trademark giant trenchcoat,...

Film studios will require permission to bring stars back from the dead through the use of AI.A new law has been made by the California Senate that will require studios to ask the late actor's estate before featuring their artificial likeness in their movies. The crackdown is expected to come into force across the US, and potentially across the rest of the world, once it has been passed by the state's governor Gavin Newsom and will also apply to TV shows, video games and other media.Film studios do not currently need consent from estates to use AI to replicate deceased performers, although it is often sought, but the new bill would make it a requirement. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) – the trade union for movie actors – said: "This is another win in our ongoing strategy of enhancing performer protections in a world of generative artificial intelligence."AI was...

The long-running partnership between Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Sony is reportedly set to end, following disagreements over Spider-Man: Noir.
A story has popped up over at Puck that claims things are not going particularly smoothly on the live-action Spider-Man: Noir project that’s set to feature Nicolas Cage as a hard-boiled alternative universe take on the Spider-Man character.

A third entry in that series was due to arrive in March of this year but was delayed with stories suggesting that too many revisions to the project were making the animation workflow very difficult in terms of meeting deadlines.
Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are the co-writers behind those films and are hands-on in their roles as producers. Back in 2019, Sony reportedly signed the duo to a five-year,...

As Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir (now officially titled Spider-Noir) continues to round out its cast, the latest actor to join the live-action series is Wu Assassins star Li Jun Li.
Deadline reports that Li will play "a singer at the premier nightclub in New York," but a recent plot synopsis revealed that Nicolas Cage's Depression-era wall-crawler will be facing a "femme fatal" take on Yuriko Watanabe, and Daniel Richtman believes this is indeed who she's been cast as.
The scooper also reports that Tom Burke and Abraham Popoola are in talks for unknown parts.
Li joins previously announced Lamorne Morris as Robbie Robertson, and Brendan Gleeson in an undisclosed role (there's a chance he'll play Silvermane). The Sandman is also expected to appear, but no word on who has been cast in the role.
Li has also appeared in the likes of Sex/Life, Babylon, Billy and Billie, and the short-lived Exorcist TV series.

Lamorne Morris just snagged an Emmy-nomination for his role on FX's Fargo, but the talented actor is clearly excited about his upcoming role in MGM+/Amazon Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir series, which will star Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly.
Diving into what attracted him to the series and the role of Robbie Robertson, Morris shared that appearing in a comic book adaptation was on his, “bucket list…to play a character in a world that is not necessarily real, opposite actors who are veteran OGs that can teach you a thing or two, that you could be on set learning while performing."
He added, "when you grow up on comics and even animation, you want to be a part of that world, and this combines those worlds. It’s the comic, it’s live-action, it’s Nick Cage, Brendan Gleeson. So, being a part of that group is a bucket list thing for sure.

As Prime Video's live-action Spider-Man Noir (now titled Spider-Noir) series continues to cast its supporting players, some surprising new details on Nicolas Cage's take on the Depression-era wall-crawler have come to light.
Possible spoilers follow.
We already knew that Cage would not be playing a version/variant of Peter Parker, and while this does appear to be the case, his character will reportedly have a very interesting connection to the iconic Marvel Comics superhero.
According to Daniel Richtman, Spider-Noir will actually be Ben Reilly.
In the comics, Reilly was a clone of Parker who went on to take up the mantle of Scarlet Spider. We're not sure how much (if any) of this origin will remain, but given the show's setting, we'd say Cage's character will be Ben Reilly in name only.
Here is logline.

Nicolas Cage is applauding Cate Blanchett’s dedication to the art of acting.
Cage told The New Yorker that Blanchett is among the few stars who truly embodies the “Golden Age vanguard style of film performance” — the style that Cage holds in the highest regard.
“I think that there have been remarkable performances,” Cage said of modern film acting. “I don’t know if it’s new, per se, or a kind of recycling or return to an older style where people are less afraid to express themselves in a larger format. They’re breaking free from ‘If it’s quiet and minimal, it’s great.’ They can liberate themselves and use their voices and gesture and go bigger.”
He continued, “I’ve seen it in different actors — for me, Cate Blanchett certainly reminds me of the Golden Age vanguard style of film performance as well.”

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, we’re lobbing queries left and right about The Bear, All American: Homecoming, Night Court and more!
1 | In addition to the many questions The Bear left us with as noted by Dave Nemetz’s Season 3 review, let’s add: Did we really never see legerdemain-obsessed Marcus unveil a desert inspired by the violet he saw? And, big picture, was it an improbable leap for Carmy to go from neighborhood sandwich shop to Michelin star-seeking fine dining with slim margins? (With a menu that inefficiently changes daily?...

As Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir (now seemingly titled Spider-Noir) live-action series sets about casting its supporting players, we may know one of the villains Nicolas's Cage's take on the Depression-era wall-crawler will be up against.
According to Daniel Richtman, a version of Flint Marko, aka The Sandman, will appear in the show. We don't know if this is the character Brendan Gleeson will play or if Marko will be the main bad guy, but we'd say he will more likely be a secondary antagonist.
If the show follows the comics, this version of The Sandman will be a little more grounded than the one played by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3 and No Way Home. Though he still has superpowers, they only allow him to turn his body into solid stone, making him impervious to injury.
The series will reportedly follow an "ageing and down on his luck...

Longlegs star Nicolas Cage voiced the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man Noir in the animated feature Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and now he’s set to play the character in live-action for an upcoming MGM+ and Prime Video series that appears to be going by the title Spider-Noir. During an interview with The New Yorker, Cage dropped some quotes about Spider-Noir, mentioning that the show is expected to consist of eight episodes… and it will involve monsters.
Spider-Noir first came up in the conversation when Cage was asked if he sees himself as part of a category of actors. He said, “The fantasy would be that I could try to aspire to be something more Golden Age. You know, something more like James Cagney or Humphrey Bogart. Or Hedy Lamarr or Bette Davis. I wanted to have that kind of aura, you know, like the more enigmatic, you don’t know too much.

It sounds like the Spider-Man Noir live-action series on Amazon is really shaping up to be something unique! Set in 1930s New York City, this time, the focus is interestingly not Peter Parker. The mention of it being set in its own universe also adds intrigue.
