Is the only redeeming quality of this movie.
Sci-fy meets lifetime movie of the week with no scares or plot sums up this movie nicely.
What little plot there is, focuses on a young teen girl manipulating her friend group with her sexual wiles, and the children/teens of today being little narcissistic psychopaths in training that strive and live for the approval and adoration of strangers on the internet.
I want my time back.

None of the main characters in this movie are likeable. The story moves along very slowly, almost painfully so. The acting is pretty bad. The sets look decent, but that's about the most redeeming thing.
Boring drama horror.. this is just all wrong evil kids wanting to be someone but not. I hate to bad mouth but hopefully you learn from this and make something stronger next time.

Terrible acting from the characters. Scenes with the the main girl are hard to watch especially when it's 5 minutes straight of her dancing for no reason infront of her friends. No cool kills coming from the monster. Would skip again if I could.
'Where the Scary Things Are' chronicles a group of young kids and their mission to create an urban legend for a school project. But, when their scary urban legend creature starts getting likes online, the group faces an impasse of friendship or fame.
This is awful. The acting is dismal, the script would be alright if it was done with competent direction, the flow is terrible, and the overall film is one that should have been burned on the cutting room floor. Ayla (Selina Flanscha) is unusually angry or aggressive throughout the film and Bran (Quinn Andrew Fickes) sad attempt at apathy comes off as plastic. All of the kids are referred to by their nicknames throughout the film, by both teachers and parents - Scribble (Oliver Givens), Mighty (Riley Sullivan), and Snack (Peter Cote) don't have 'real' names. The monster is kinda neat, but ultimately cannot pull the film with such horrid acting.
Avoid at all costs.

Within ten minutes the film rips off key elements of Stand By Me, doesn't develop any characters at all and ends up in a beyond boring mishmash of cliches and bad performances.
It's like he thought ripping off Stephen King or Spielberg-type elements of a story would make it a winner. But no dice. You forgot to make it interesting for the audience dude. We know nothing of the kids themselves and their home lives. Same goes for all the adult characters.
I hope none of you has paid good money to see this, as revisiting the original movies the "director" references in his "Synopsis" on here would be a far better investment.

It's terrible and I love corny horror movies. If you value your time this is not for you. It is unorganized. If you decide to watch it, wait for it on Tubi. Why sexualize the young teenage girl? It's creepy. Not the 80's.

Why does this exist?
This movie fails to even grasp the simple formula of horror movies, rather it shoots itself in the foot a billion times.
After watching this film. I come to a consensus, the director should never be present on a film set. He is no John Carpetner, he's a lousy investment.
Steer clear of this 'movie', it is boring and a waste of time.

I love horror movies and was really looking forward to this as Halloween approaches. I was hoping it would be similar to "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark" - group of kids, various monsters, a few jump scares. NOPE. The only emotion I had while watching this was sadness that it had not yet ended. The idea was decent - a teacher gives his students an assignment to create an urban legend. I was really hoping for several new urban legends to pop up, showcasing the creativity of the class. As it turns out they give us only one slimy monster. Yes, there is some blood/gore but I am still baffled that this received an "R" rating. What a disappointment!!

It's sad that I've shopped a few scripts over the years and never got so much as an email in response; then there are films like this piece of trash that get made. There was absolutely nothing good, original, or special about this. The acting is just terrible, except for the man playing the teacher - he was actually a very good actor. Too bad he was put in a film with the most dull of all plots I can imagine.
When I watch a film I want to like at least one of the main characters. That's not possible with this one. The only time I can respect a film that has nothing but terrible characters that I just hate is when they're killed off in really cool way. Well, there is nothing special about how anyone is killed off in this. It's the lamest creature film I've ever seen with the lamest kill scenes I've ever seen. They're literally all the same. There is not one kill different from another.
This is just bad. Don't waste your time. I can't imagine what made anyone want to waste their time or money making this one.

I can't remember a movie with a weaker plot and completely unlikeable characters in my lifetime. The girl in the gang is absolutely repulsive in her cartoon like anger and entitlement and her headbanded boyfriend is nothing more than an NPC doorstop. The only second to the girl is the annoying underdeveloped troll boy with the camera that quips continuously. This would have presented better as a 2 minute snuff film in which the "child stars" were dispatched at 30 seconds. Someone needed at tax write off by making this one. Atrocious.
I'm giving it a 9 because it is a 9 for what the movie is. I didn't come in expecting this to be top gun ir Independence Day type of movie.
It was relatively low budget all the kids did a really good job acting in my opinion especially Selina.
Good job to all of you if any of you are reading this. I've seen a lot of B rated horror movies and this is far from being at the bottom.

Ok, it's not a big budget production. ButI really liked it. The acting is good. The real monster is the lead female. Every one of the boys in their crew is both afraid of and in love with her. She is both vicious and seductive.
The kids are all great examples of different personalities.
I felt this is a unique story with great foreshadowing. I don't want to say this is predictable--the plot progresses as I thought it would.
The ending is sad though appropriate.
I usually won't watch any movies below a 6.0. The reviews are way below my experience. I even watched it with my kids and my little boy hated the female protagonist (if I can call her that...) which means the actress did a great job to illicit that response.

In my opinion, this movie should not have been placed in the horror genre at all, because the movie was not even exciting, it was completely boring, so that I fell asleep in the middle of the movie!
Unfortunately, both my time and my network were lost Don't waste your time guys.

Extremely unlikable characters, very bad acting from the entire cast and nothing of horror at all in the time we watched. I think we gave it at least 20 minutes and had no idea where it was headed, but it was annoying, so poorly edited and acted that we just gave up. The low score and bad reviews are all correct. This is one to skip.

Honestly save yourself from this mess. Nobody in it can act. Nobody is likeable. The script, direction and camera work are enough to annoy you.
This movie will not be the start of anyone's career but it may end a few.
Also a heads up that at the time of posting this those ranking this above a 7 have only reviewed this one movie so.........
Dismissed.

So much cringe I want to cry. Quality of the movie isn't bad, which is why I thought it would be a good movie . NO WAY, do not waste your time watching this please. The acting, oh my gosh I wanted to cry the entire movie. The kids were directed to be so unlikeable, I would never want to watch another movie where they starred in.
Throughout the movie I kept asking questions , nothing made sense. It was a sloppy movie to put together .
Pointless scenes, the cringiest "teen romance scene" gross. So so so unnecessary . If I could, I would give this a 0. I was super hopeful, as the title and trailer did seem to have potential. Yea.

By a technical standpoint, the movie's not bad. It has some good camera work, the sound mixing was on point, the acting - for the most part - wasn't bad.
When the movie started, all of the characters were deplorable. As it continued, the characters only got worse. With the exception of the Snack character, all you want is to see the other characters killed. I only kept watching just to see everyone else get killed off. The worst characters were Bran (from the get-go, you want him dead), Ayla (no redeeming factors) and Scribble (just a general horrible person).
Hell, the monster (Crockamoley) was sympathetic. You wanted to see it off the entire cast - you just waited for it.
I felt like this film had potential. If it focused on the Jeni character being bullied due to her anxiety and how Snack was someone to befriend her while trying to distance himself from his "friends," it could have worked. Honestly, this film fails because its focus is on the wrong people.

The whole thing is poorly written. The film quality is good but the story is absolutely terrible. Who in the world approves such terrible writing for a film.
This is hands down the most boring movie I've seen in months and the oversexualisation of these teens is vile. I wasted my damn time. This story is literally ass and impossible to foloow because it's just not there.

I found this movie entertaining and amusing. It wasn't the scariest but i don't get scared easily. I found it interesting to see field of screams, a place I have seen in person during the day time featured in a movie. As I watched the movie I kept thinking 'Oh I've been there'. It is a cool movie in all especially if you have been to field of screams.

This movie is not for mainstream viewers. This is for us b-movie rejects to enjoy, and for the most part, I did. The creature looked great; loved that. The little guy had me laughing several times. The girl character had some serious anger issues, but the actress portrayed it very well. She really nailed the character and delivered a solid performance (especially for her age). Being a low-budget flick, it had the adult actors to match the budget, but the kids all were fine, even good in the case of most, and they were the main characters so that works. I liked the teacher. He was a swell fella. It was a bit slow at times, but other parts had me totally engaged. There was some cool aesthetic at the end I liked a lot, and the ending was OK, but not great. Giving this a 6 to make up for those who unfairly gave it a 1, but as a 5 it's not good enough to recommend, even to other b-movie enthusiasts. Oh, and my biggest complaint would probably be that they used the same gore effect for 2 different kills. That's just lame. But the fact that there was a bit of gore is always a plus. There definitely needed to be more, tho. All in all, not a bad effort here.

I knew within ten minutes of this drivel that this movie isn't one of the good ones, the OK ones, or even the so-bad-it's-good ones. This is beyond cheesy, because cheesy has its own charm, and cheesy I could tolerate, but this flick is just bad, bad, bad all around. The most repugnant group of kid characters I've seen onscreen in a long time-and they are supposed to be the heroes (I guess?). And the acting....let's just say it's as awful, vulgar, and amateur as the screenplay. Good thing the main cast is all young enough to look into other occupations, because I don't think any of them should waste any more time trying to be actors. One star, and that's generous.

I created an account to write this post in the hopes some poor soul does not have to watch this movie. The special effects were pretty good, but aside from that everything else is absolutely terrible. The direction, flow, and general plot are all unoriginal, unexciting, and incredibly boring. The acting is perhaps the worst part of this movie with the main girl being obnoxiously rude and aggressive with no redeeming qualities. It is a shame these young actors were forced to display such irritating, rude, and inconsiderate characters; their careers certainly did not deserve this direction and outcome this movie demanded. This is perhaps one of the worst movies me and my girlfriend have ever seen, with the direction and overall narrative hitting rock bottom, with them starting to dig the more it dragged on. It was incredibly boring and irritating to watch, I quite literally was falling asleep. If you want to crown a new movie as your number one worst film ever, then I recommend turning this on immediately.
