While he doesn't appear in the film, Tom Atkins lent his image to the character of "George Krug" featured in a painting by artist Rob Csiki for a brief scene in the film.
Camp Silverlake is named as a nod to the Nick Castle film, The Last Starfighter (1984). In that film, the main characters camp out at Silver Lake. Nick Castle played "The Shape" in John Carpenter classic slasher film, Halloween (1978)
