This one's out of the blue. It's funny without even trying. The dialog is simple and straightforward, but enjoyable nonetheless, because it does not pretend to be a hifalutin talking-head.
Every bit is enjoyable, and the laughs are always mostly unexpected.
Even the costumes add to its comedic flair; ogres who do not really look like ogres. No need for expensive CGI to make this film watchable.
I recognized Tami right away, and she is as beautiful as always.
The acting is apt. Even when the dialog is already too corny, it actually blends with the overall theme.
Stories like this, I miss. I hope filmmakers make more of this.

Me, I got it. It's a self depreciating pantomime with a good budget.
I understand why there is a massive gap between the user reviews and scores. It's because you have to get what's going on and find that amusing, otherwise this is just a stinky pile of garbage.
The jokes were silly and funny and very British.
There was background visual gags that just added to the silliness.
Not only did I enjoy this Mickey take of a film, but I Loved it.
The cast including Mrs Doyle from Father Ted acted exactly as they should have done. Which is just go with the flow and don't take yourself or the role seriously.
Long and short is, if you watch the first five minutes and love it, you'll love it. Otherwise abort as you'll not get into it.

It must be nice to have such good friends and crew members who all think this movie is a 10 and not one score under 10 given.
How did this movie get made?
Someone actually financed this garbage?
Good luck getting your money back.
The acting was beyond bad.
ChatGPT could have written a better script.
The directing, lets just not comment on that, I have nothing nice to say about that.
Hollywood is dead. Its that simple.
No more good ideas and even less talented writers / directors who can produce a descent movie these days.
For all those who gave it a resounding 10 out of 10, get your head examined. This movie was a train wreck and if you think this is worthy of a 10, clearly this is the only movie you ever watched in your life and never witnessed a well crafted, well written, well acted and directed movie.
Guys stop giving 10's.

This movie is a beautiful parody, with a noticeable low budget, but extremely entertaining. A mix of 80's fairy tale adventure with a touch of Benny Hill nonsense. A movie for all the family, with a cute story and great dialogues and monologues. If you give it a chance and not compare it to your favorite blockbuster, you'll find it's a little gem.
And since I still have to write 200 more characters to my review to be admitted, I might as well say that I logged in to this site after years just so I could make this review because the amount of negativity in the reviews was bothering me. There. 600.

There is no way the 10/10 reviews here aren't related to this movie in some way.
It's NOT another princess bride.
It's NOT anything.
I'd even go so far as saying that it's a tier lower than the average Hallmark movie channel flick, and that's really bad.
Hollywood has quit trying. Soon we will be watching live custom generated AI movies because of garbage like this.
You guys are ruining the movie industry one DEI appointed director/writer/reviewer at a time. You CAN get by with tossing a random onion or turnip into the punchbowl. But once you have tossed in nothing but onions and turnips and no actual punch- no one will drink that garbage. Stop ruining the world with your agenda.
Make movies people actually want to see, and ACTUALLY hire a writer/director who can do their jobs.

I absolutely loved this movie! Everything from the beginning when they explained the making and inspiration behind the movie, to all of the throwbacks to the 80s, which were incredibly nostalgic and I loved. I loved that it was a family project, and everyone in it just seemed to be having so much fun, and it was so contagious! The artwork and the throwback to puppets or just fun. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon at the theater with my family, Just a delight!
Full of slapstick humor that made me laugh and clap out loud. Neverending story was one of my favorite childhood movies, and it was beyond fun to see the reappearance of the Child empress, and Christopher Lloyd. I am so excited to see part two, this will definitely be a classic watch and rewatch for our family! Thank you for making such a delightful film, I wish there were more like this!

It is that rare kind of cinematic oddity that defies traditional notions of quality, effortlessly earning a place among those so-bad-it's-good films that viewers can't help but return to. The plot is delightfully absurd, wandering through medieval fantasy tropes with a charming lack of subtlety, like a fever dream conjured up in a basement D&D session. Characters are over-the-top and occasionally baffling, with performances that swing between campy earnestness and full-on melodrama. But for all its quirks, there's a strangely endearing quality about it-the way it fully commits to its wild, unapologetic weirdness without blinking. "Man and the Witch" is cinematic junk food, undeniably flawed yet irresistibly entertaining, the kind of film that begs for late-night re-watching with friends, a true cult gem for those who revel in the beautifully bizarre.
Truly utterly a diamond in the rough a black Perl yet to be discovered a little piece of magic for everyone that is available and receptive to just enjoying a magical enjoyably fun movie experience filled with laughter irony fun love task and old school storytelling made in a marvel way to entertain and they so entertain so well wit a great narrator that makes the story perfect in so many ways it is as I said truly a b movie of the princess bride it's a love version of the never ending story that keeps it head held up high and will become a cult classic for the few of us that listen watch and understand it's truly marvellous.

As a child of the 80s, I was intrigued by a film that promised to pay homage to the fantasy films of that decade...but also a bit skeptical about its ability to do so. That skepticism gave way to pure delight as the film delivered on that promise and then kept delivering.
The story's creative twists are charmingly and skillfully unfolded to us, and the film keeps a humorous and whimsical tone while delivering moments of actual scariness and suspense. The acting is uniformly terrific, from the two leads down to the tiny child playing Cupid. Jim Henson's puppets serve as a Greek Chorus of sorts in a way that engaged the children and amused the adults in the audience. And the broadening of the POV from just the goatherd to include the witch enhances the tension of the build to the film's very satisfying denouement.
The film carefully threads the needle between being a throwback to the 80s and commenting on the world of today. It's a joy to see something that unmitigatedly "feel-good," and it says a lot about this film that it has stuck with me in the weeks since I've seen it. I'd love to get to see it again and to share it with others of all ages.

Man and Witch: The Dance of A Thousand Steps is an under appreciated masterpiece. It is a movie that knows exactly how cliche it is, makes fun of how cliche it is, and shows how fun it is to be cliche. From great main characters to great background characters, to a great setting, to great set pieces, to great writing, this movie feels to me like a cult classic in the making. It heavily calls back to the whimsical era of 80s fantasy, from The Princess Bride to The NeverEnding Story, deconstructing some of the more cliche tropes of 80s fantasy while still showing how fun fantasy can be to watch. I highly recommend this movie to anyone looking for a fantasy movie, romance movie, comedy movie, or just a movie with a happy ending.
Man and Witch: Dance of a thousand steps really captures the 80's charm with its use of puppets and special effects. There are lots of fun film references to other movies. I really loved the voice over by Sean Astin and the cameo by Christopher Lloyd. There are lots of really cool little details to look out for in the props. It's cleverly written and had me laughing out loud. The acting is excellent. It's a great fun watch for all the family.
As a big fan of the Never Ending Story it's fantastic to see Tami Stronach return to the screen. Her daughter, Maya Stronach, also made a great debut as Cupid in this film.

What a fun, whimsical, stand-out movie. Lighthearted with a flowing storyline, the movie has a ton of embedded Easter eggs for those of us with 80s memories -- from Flashdance foot tapping to song quotes, this was a total flashback to some of our favorites pop culture moments. Clever and heartfelt, the story also had some life-lessons around openness and inclusion and stick-to-it-iveness that all resonated without being preachy. While the film didn't take itself too seriously, I loved both the life lessons and the humor. An amazing cast made it all come together. At a time where there is so much strife, Man & Witch reminds me of Ted Lasso in the sense of being a feel good story with a great message that is well-written and timely. Loved it!!

Silly yet satisfying. 80s look and feel. Especially appreciate the old school puppets used for animals. Sprinkled with movie quotes from other classics. Feel like this is the movie you should pull out while enjoying a talk with Mary Jane. Amazed at the famous faces and how tidbits from their resumes are brought into this one. Also loved the Fathomdom preview and Tami and Greg's story of pulling this together. The movie could have gone too far but kept its restraint. Loved how the typical wedding ending was used with a couple of heartwarming tidbits. In a better world, this move would become a cult classic. I wish I could give it the publicity it deserves.
I can't say enough wonderful things about this movie. It's hilarious. It's nostalgic. It has a stellar cast.
We were lucky enough to watch it in the theater right after seeing The Never Ending Story 40th Anniversary showing and attending the Q&A/Red Carpet with Tami and Greg. To hear them talk about their journey making this film, well it certainly shows in the finished product, because this movie is full of love and laughs. Definitely try to see it whenever and wherever you can!
(And for Tami & Greg: I hope we get to see more of these characters in other films someday and excited to see what you both create next!)

A feel good movie of old. Classicly simply yet artfully deep. Enjoyable on all fronts and for all ages. Musical score not the be ignored. I hope this movie gets the exposure it deserves and leads to more from this team as well as more movies like it. Wonderful characters that deceive you with their depth. This movie doesnt pretent to be something its not. It really brings you back to a time where movies were there to entertain and deliver a message without shoving it in your face. Was fortunate enough to see this at the early premier in nyc with some of the cast. It was a priviledge to see the heart and passion they put into this production. Please see this movie.
This movie was cleverly written and had a lot of heart. I felt myself remembering the wit and joy of classics like The Princess Bride and the 10th Kingdom. Tammy Stronach and Greg Steinbruner have amazing chemistry. This is a love letter to the fans of fun and lighthearted classics of the 80s. Christopher Lloyd was a fun surprise and the story had many clever elements. While the film doesn't have the biggest budget it makes up for that with its big heart. With puppets from the Jim Henson Creature Shop, witches, wizards and cupid, how can you go wrong?! This will surely become a cult favorite!!! I can't wait to own it.

The highlights: Beautiful natural settings instead of backlots and studios, heart-warming story, great acting, wonderful soundtrack, fun spontaneous humor, puppetry than matched the live animals, enjoyed the introduction by Tami and Greg.
This was put together so well that it's hard to believe this is their first attempted feature length film ! I came away challenged by the goatherd's attitude toward love and his persistence. I was also reminded of the greatness of redemption by the attitude and character changes in the witch, provoked by simple acts of love toward her. I can't wait for this to come out on VHS... or maybe DVD :)

It's hard to write a nostalgic fantasy film that doesn't just rely on tropes, but this film has done just that. It was the perfect blend of comfortable familiarity and surprises. And if you think you know exactly what's going to happen after watching the trailer, you don't (I mean, you know some of it, but there were some wonderful twists as well ). It was also nice to watch a film that didn't rely on CGI for its effects.
After I saw the movie, I listened to the score on Spotify the whole next day.
The film definitely appeals to Gen X and Millennials with the nostalgia, but I think it stands on its own outside of all that. Folks into goblincore or witchcore would absolutely love the visuals (and the plot as well). The Witch's cottage = goals.
I'm really hoping there's a sequel because I have so many questions about the history and the future of the Contented Kingdom.
