This is an engaging docudrama about Brian Epstein. Whether it is accurate or not, the story is compelling.
It has been wonderfully cast. The main characters are all believable and authentic. The acting brings out the true nature, expressions, and voices of Brian, each of The Beatles, and Cilla in particular. Every portrayal is moving, amusing, well-rounded, and multifaceted. The whole atmosphere of Midas Man is elevated by the excellent performances, the snappy dialogue, the inspired direction, the vintage wardrobe, the stylised makeup, the varied lighting, the flowing pacing, and the sharp editing.
Some of the story is told by interspersing footage from the period very successfully, giving the movie a genuine quality.
The way Brian's story unfolds, from his perspective, is gritty, witty, and heartbreaking. It comes across that all Brian wanted was to be loved for himself. He craved love and approval from his father, like his mother gave him.
When his brother married, the visceral pain Brian suffered because he didn't have a partner to love him, was palpable. He was desperate and that led to him being exploited in personal and financial encounters.
Pretty much everyone smoked in the sixties and seventies. Brian smoked more than his fair share while consuming massive amounts of alcohol and a plethora of drugs. So sad that despite his advantages in life, he felt so unfulfilled, except for his management of The Beatles and other Merseyside artists. The movie brings that explicitly to life. It is a virtually perfect movie that I will happily watch again and highly recommend.
