DVD games have been around for a while now, with varying degrees of entertainment value. Some, like Scene It are fun and sell very well. Others, like Family Feud are not worth the time to even put the disc in the player. Horror has been quiet on this front. I've awaited a horror Scene It with no luck... and now, finally, someone has made an attempt to break in to this untapped market with "Slumber Party Slaughterhouse".
The set up is very much geared towards the lower budget horror fans, those who like the sex and drugs and violence... the punks, not so much the auteurs. And what else would you expect from Halo 8? You play as Paul Tard, a recent graduate who is rejected from his own party and accidentally dies while watching porn. As a ghost, he is assisted by Devilgirl (or Angelgirl, played by Killer Reviews favorite Melissa Bacelar) in massacring his friends and a house full of prostitutes.
The catch is that in order to proceed, Paul (with the viewer's help) must answer questions about slasher films. Hope you know your "Friday the 13th" and your "Child's Play" because you'll need it if you want to see some splattered whores. And we're not just talking any two-bit actresses they found on the street, boys. Porn star Joanna Angel ("Re-Penetrator") is here, and so is one of my favorite actresses (and sweet lady), Tiffany Shepis ("Nightmare Man"). And more... directed by Halo 8's finest directors.
All the blood, sex and punk rock is a perfect mix... with only one real concern. What is the replay value of the game? I'd say it's a mid-level. You won't want to play it all the time, and the questions may become stale. But I also wouldn't say it's not worth picking up. Even as just a film it's pretty enjoyable, if you're into that hooker murder thing. I recommend you get your copy... order it from Halo 8 or a local vendor you trust for your horror needs. This one may slide under the radar but I can see it gaining a cult following.
