Based on a picture book "Koiramäen lapset kaupungissa" (Otava, 1982) (English: The Doghill Kids Go to Town). Both the book and the series are written and illustrated by Mauri Kunnas (with the help of his wife Tarja Kunnas). For the finished series, the original illustrations from the book were filmed together in a studio (there is no real animation). A four-part television series premiered on Finnish television in December 28, 1983 on Pikku kakkonen (1977).
