The children in the film go to the fictional Ferenc Szohár Elementary School. Ferenc Szohár (1948-2020) was a production manager and producer, and was a mentor to both director Dániel Tiszeker and producer Gábor Osváth. He died six weeks before filming started.
Zsolt Trill and Nelli Szücs, who are married in real life, play husband and wife. But they are not the only real life couple playing spouses on screen: Kata Gonda and Csaba Kenderes are also married.
Because of the corona-virus pandemic, the schedule had to be altered several times. Shooting lasted almost 7 months.
Tamás Szabó Kimmel's breakthrough film role was in Made in Hungaria (2009), of which Dániel Tiszeker and Gábor Osváth did the casting, and they were later the director and producer of Nagykarácsony, respectively.
